Back to the Future Part II | How Biff Tannen Ruined Hill Valley 

This is why Biff Tannen is the best movie bully ever. He isn’t just a nuisance. He’s a genuine threat. Something most other movie bullies will never be.

I love how Marty wears a bright red shirt in contrast to the other people who are all dressed in black, to really drive home the fact that he's not from this timeline.

The filmmakers should have kept the deleted scene of the burning high school, because it would have add more complication to Marty realizing he is not in the reality he returned to.

Now I get why Biff is considered one of the best villains in Sci-Fi. He is an average joe who torments the main character by proxy of his time-travel doppelgangers and shows how time travel can truly be used to screw up reality just on the whims of one guy.

“EAT LEAD, SLACKERS!” is lowkey the best line in the trilogy.

I love how everyone's fates changes except for Uncle Joey and That Crazy drunk bum guy.

I like how this scene gives you one hint at a time of the nightmarish new reality... The ominous music, the gunshots, the screams of terror, the dog howls, the wrecked vehicles, the murder victim outlines, the passing cop cars, the trigger-happy citizens... 😱😱😨😨 And then finally the reveal of the enormous skyscraper containing the root of all the evil!

Ok, but does anyone feel sorry for poor Lorraine in the alternate timeline? She was forced to MARRY biff after he killed George. She was even told to get plastic surgery by that bully of a man.

Didn't originally notice that all the surrounding houses around "Marty's" have a Biffco realty sign on them.

That second scream at 1:40 and the way he just stops is classic. Such a good actor.

This shows why biff isn’t your typical movie villain he’s a total threat not just to the main character but to the whole world

2:56 I always get a kick out of the fact that Biff doesn’t even waste his time relying on the police to protect his interests. He’s got his own damn private army that’s even better equipped than the cops.

I’ve seen this film countless times and I only just noticed the “smoking required” sign.

This is why Biff Tannen is one of my favorite movie villains ever. He goes from your average thuggish Bully to menacing the entire TIMELINE. And his ancestors terrorize Marty no matter which era he's in. His entire existence proves how Time Travel shouldn't belong to anyone. Period.

I've always loved after the whole light hearted futuristic stuff , the film takes a dark turn into this Alternate 1985 and then gets exciting again when they go back to 1955. My favorite film in the trilogy!

really wish they'd put out the full version of the Biff Tannen museum video. We only have that VHS copy someone posted on RU-vid. I was actually surprised they filmed a good amount of footage for it...and we barely see more than a few minutes of it.

4:19, a cop is seen calling Biff about Marty being there. That's why Biff's goons presumably match, skin head, and 3d show up and hit him over the head.

2:55 If you look closely, you can see that the tank has a license plate that says "Hill Valley Police." That means those soldiers and that tank are not from the US military, but one of the many benefits Biff gave to the police once he took control of them.

I love Part 1, heartwarming, racing and fun. But Part 2? EPIC!

This is, quite possibly, the best delivery of exposition in film history.

Reminds me of when Scott Lang/Ant Man finds himself in the post-Snap world after being trapped in the Quantum Realm for 5 years (which to him was 5 hours) in Avengers Endgame.

I remember being only 11 years old waiting 3 years for this movie. My Mom takes me to watch it on premier night at the theatre and I have an absolute blast, until after she started using " The EEAASY way " line when I was being mischievous 🤣

Seeing this nightmarish version of Hill Valley and Marty seeing what became of it is kind of reminiscent to Its a Wonderful Life where George Bailey witnessed an alternate reality of Bedford Falls.

They should of kept in the scene where the Old Biff from the Future disappearing from existence because it would show what WOULD of happened to Marty in the first movie.

Only thing good about this dystopia, is the music.

I never realized the references to "It's a Wonderful Life" in this scenario.

The authorites SHOULD HAVE seen the almanac in the paper and had Biff Tannen arrested for scam, fraud, and many other violations.

This was a cinematic leak of the future, which is now.

Hill Valley, more like Hell Valley

So just so I know the entire timeline correctly.... Timeline A: George McFly was a wuss, but married to Lorraine, and bullied by Biff. Marty was friends with Doc Brown, but everything seemed simple enough. Timeline B: George McFly was an average guy, and married to Lorraine. Biff was his wax guy, and Marty gets fired in the future, with children alongside Jennifer. Timeline B™: George is dead, Biff is married to Lorraine, and Marty is supposed to be in Switzerland. Hill Valley is in chaos. Timeline C: George McFly is a normal guy while married to Lorraine, Biff is not rich and still the wax guy for George, and Marty doesn't get fired from his job because he learns to handle his irrational decisions over being called "chicken." Oh, and Coronavirus comes around in about 35 years after returning to the present day of 1985

That timeline was laughable in my childhood. I'm not laughing now. My 1985 was a dream compared to my 2021.

Another thing that stands out for me in this scene is the music. The great composer Alan Silvestri also made the music for the Predator film, which actually sounds very similar.

2:46 - i like to think that this is the Clock Tower Square.. But in this alternate timeline Biff destroyed the Old clock tower and built his Mega Casino and Hotel Empire.. and also converted the park into a parking lot for the casino now a homeless camp.. A great hint for this is this classic camera position that repeats itself throughout the series to showcase how the park looks in different timelines and that big tree in the middle of the parking lot.. maybe the same tree where Doc's Lightning cable was stuck in back in 1955.

I can hear SO many similar sounding suspenseful tones and styles Alen Silverstri used in the soundtrack for this film and in Predator. The music made both those films so much better!

The obvious movie analogy is the alternate Bedford Falls run by Mr. Potter. I will say that Biff's Hill Valley looks like fun.

Every time I watch this I’m amazed at what a dark turn the series takes. Strickland threatening to shoot Marty’s nuts off. Drive-by shootings with machine guns are apparently a common occurrence. Biff killing George and Lorraine choosing to marry an obvious sleazeball because she saw no other choice. Biff forcing Lorraine to get implants. Not complaining, mind you, because I think this is what makes part 2 interesting and memorable. No WAY this would get a PG rating today though.

Here's an idea for Back to the Future 4 that I'd like to see, and hopefully others, on the screen before we lose Christopher and Michael to death's embrace. After visiting the future (though, they've already been there), Doc's family visits Marty in the year 2035. Marty is now a successful musician. At Lou's Cafe, they inform him about the drastic change the Earth is about to undergo thanks to the effects of global warming, climate change, and the cosmic process. Marty is shocked to learn about the details of Earth's future and says, "that's some heavy news." Marty follows his routine and orders a drink but never finishes it. Doc and Clara share their plan with Marty on how to save Hill Valley and life as they know it. Biff overhears the conversation and exchanges pleasantries with Marty, Clara, and Doc. Biff offers his assistance as he is concerned for his family's safety and his own. Meanwhile, Doc has left the steam time train with Jules and Verne who are tricked by Tiff (Biff's granddaughter) into telling her how the time machine works. Tiff is the first in the Tannen family to become a scientist and has somehow predicted the Earth's future. Tired of being mocked by the media and her community, she throws the teens off the train, calls them buttheads, and heads to the future in order to escape the growing temperatures, rising sea levels, and the increase of gravity on Earth. Verne attempts to chase the train with Marty's hoverboard but is unsuccessful. Doc is shocked to learn about Tiff and these plot events and says, "Great Scott!" Nevertheless, Doc continues the plan and gains the sponsorship from the Hill Valley Preservation Society which is revealed to be a secret society that is responsible for maintaining the temporal junction point of the entire space time continuum. However, little do they know that Tiff has proliferated Earth's doom in the future by causing a third genesis flood. This comes about when she and her future self sell their idea of organic land mass production and alter their fate in the year 2055 by commercializing the control of submarine volcanoes. As a result, Earth's mass increases and a domino effect ensues. Back in 2035, Doc and the society set off on building a time traveling boat made from the homes of Lyon Estates and Hill Valley buildings (recycled materials). The courthouse's tower clock is upgraded with a flux capacitor and is placed at the boat's helm as the steering wheel. Of course, lightning (1.21 gigawatts) is needed to activate and power the time traveling boat at a specific time in the future. As per usual, Marty doesn't understand why a time machine has to be built out of a boat and Doc chastises him once more for not thinking 4th dimensionally. He says his famous line, "where we are headed we still don't need roads," and he explains that after all the ice covering Antarctica, Greenland and mountain glaciers has melted, Earth's sea levels will rise 300 feet and open a water roadway around the globe. He also explains that the boat needs to be covered in interlocked leaves and a heavy magnetic field as they both repel water. Doc goes on to explain that this is necessary because the acceleration will be slower due to the weight of the boat and its occupants, so they will need more assistance to reach the max speed (88 mph) needed to break the time barrier and travel back to the future where Earth is habitable once more. Once the boat is built, Doc and Clara's next stage of the plan is to gather three pairs of every kind of animal and insect, a male and female. Doc and the residents of Hill Valley use shrink rays to capture and place the insects and animals in the boat. Next, they collect two pairs of all the kinds of plants, especially pine trees (making old man Peabody proud). After gathering everything they need, Doc and Marty break uncle Joey out of prison who is now 81 years old. In a flashback, it is revealed that Biff sent uncle Joey to rob the home of Emmett Brown's mother as initiation into his gang. Joey got caught and was arrested. Joey and Biff bury the hatchet and say to each other that their beef is in the past. The next stage of the plan is to wait for the day that Hill Valley will be covered by the ocean which happens the very next day. During the boarding process, Marty finds the DeLorean's license/vanity plate and attaches it to the stern of the boat by using his hoverboard. The residents of Hill Valley shrink their belongings, board the boat, and wait for their transition into a brave new world. At night, Marty wakes up thinking he's had a nightmare and is consoled by his mother. The deadline approaches and the second genesis flood comes right on time (not affected by the actions of Tiff) and so does the lightning storm. The boat receives the bolt of lightning directly into the steering wheel's circuits and it starts to accelerate the boat around the globe. The boat travels along the Earth's spin around its axis and arrives at the intended destination in the future where they retrieve Tiff and scold her for her actions. As her comeuppance, she is accidentally covered in the manure of the animals onboard the boat. They wait for the third genesis flood and once again the weather service is more reliable than the postal service. The steam time train is left behind on the train tracks and is consumed by the ocean. The lightning storm activates the time traveling boat once more and back to the future it goes. That same night, the McFly family and Tannen family have a dinner where McFly Jr. and Tiff fall in love. The occupants celebrate by having an Enchantment Under the Sea Dance on the boat's deck. Marty and McFly Jr. play a set of songs for the party guests. Later, the occupants arrive at a future moment in space and time where life is inhabitable again and start to rebuild civilization in the aftermath of the Earth's cataclysms spurred on by humankind's actions. The occupants release the animals, which reproduced during their commute, into the wild. They rebuild Hill Valley and restore the courthouse and the clock tower to its former glory. Doc and his family stay in the future and vow not to meddle with time anymore; accepting the natural flow of time and remaining organic time travelers into the future, repeating historical arcs and all.

So...Marty traveled to *any American city* circa 2020-23?

I love this movie trilogy, also for those who don’t know (and I know a lot probably do) the song they are playing when Marty finds Biff’s hotel? Is Sammy Hagar’s “I Can’t drive 55” . (Not only am I a back to the future “freak” I am also a music freak!) and right now I’m in my 20’s. I guess you could say I am the Doc Brown of music (well one of them) because I have made it my life‘s work to become a musician and study music. Mostly rock ‘n’ roll, the first female in my family to not be a police officer or a military person. And that last part clearly does not go for just females. Considering I am the youngest of six children. And the third daughter. I guess that’s why I know this movie trilogy because my middle sister was born the same year this movie came out, she will be 36 today September 23, 2021.

I wish 2020 & 2021 are alternate years and it would be cool to return to the real year

Every time I hear "I can't drive 55", I immediately think of this scene.

This one is the strongest in the trilogy.

I've seen this movie a thousand times and never noticed the blood inside of the chalk lines.

2:27 The Plaza Hotel & Casino in the Downtown section of Las Vegas was use as the dystopia setting for Biff Tannen's Pleasure Paradise Hotel & Casino (were the former Courthouse Square once stood).

This movie may have incorrectly foretold 2015, but it did manage to get 2020 right.
