I have never related to a scene/character more, than when Randal says "I hate everyone and everything seems stupid to me, but you were always the counter balance to that"
I never really put together how dark the ending to this movie was. It kind of seems to be framing a "happily ever after" ending but it transforms into a dark twisted "same old ever after",with a sense of existential dread. It basically ends the same as the graduate. The heroes get exactly what they wanted and the world is theirs, but the movie hangs on the extra second just to fill the audience with a sense of unease. It's beautiful really.
Clerks 2 was disturbingly brilliant. It really drags you into the film with it's in depth conversations, and kind of like a disgusting train wreck of events, you Can't look away, and now you're part of it, but at the end of the day everyone's Heart is in the right place.
Mike Fu There is more heart in Clerks 2 than in anything else Smith has ever done. I wasn't aware of the (almost) fallout between Kevin and Mosher when I saw it for the first time, but you could tell how personal it was from the first scene. Chasing Amy had a big heart and showed Smith's sentimental side off, but Clerks 2 was his heart. Knowing what was happening in his life now, you can dissect every scene in it and pick out what in his life makes him happy, scared, melancholy and insecure. The emotion invoked by the film is real and almost impossible to replicate on that level out of any normal script. I think that Kevin's personal story is what makes his films great. Watching Clerks, you can feel how hungry he was. With Mallrats you can see complacency and studio interference. Chasing Amy brought the hunger back and showed off what he had learned since Clerks. Dogma showed that he was in the groove and felt unstoppable. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was a celebration and looked like a hell of a lot of fun. Then Clerks 2 was a VERY bittersweet goodbye tie a decade and a half of life lessons, friendships and the personification of a dream come true. The end was beautiful but you could sense fear a little bit; uncertainty. Its kind of chilling.
Did anyone else notice that after Kevin Smith calls it a wrap and everyone is hugging and stuff, Brian O'Halloran carries on stocking the shelves with cigarettes? I'm guessing that he's thinking to himself "I'm not even supposed to be here today".....
Dear Mr. Smith, Thank you for entertaining me for the past three decades; Anderson (Randal) is my doppelganger, and it has freaked me out all this time. I just watched your doc. that was just as enlightening (Amazing) as the sequel itself. Please let Jeffery know that a loyal fan is so appreciative, that he was as critical as he was, to ensure that the sequel was as genuine and emotional as the original masterpiece. P.S. Jersey Girl was a wonderful movie and everyone that prompt to watch it, LOVES IT>
Allot of movies you watch today Just explosions...Kevin's movies Are dialogue genius i listen to them in the car all thetime... trydoing that with a arnold shwartzeneggar movie
Emma was prettier than Beck’s. Great so Dante lives happily ever after with his child from a one night stand or how appropriate Great so Dante lives happily ever after with his child from a one night stand how appropriate and Randall still lives at home with mommy and daddy? That Elias dude was a freaking gay wad but he finally smoke some herb like normal people “fuck polo pants I love pussy and bigger quoteand he’s taking his clothes off at the same time LMAO and it took me a while to figure out why Randall was so upset he was losing his best friend. By the way you never ever go ass to mouth
I remember in dogma quoteto profits one will talk at great lake whether or not you want them to I said great length anyway before I was ever so weirdly I said rudely interrupted by some cunt I said cunt but anyway I love part two and silent Bob actually talksSays to Jay something like “you have one answer for every question pussy “oh yeah Jay the actor was a junkie for a while. I read the holy fucking Bibles to LOL
Being a huge fan of Clerks had me a skeptic as well of the part 2. In what IMHO is a rarity, the sequel really was a well written & shot film that met all expectations and actually surpassed some with such a powerful ending! This is just as excellent, I love the candid & honesty of Kevin Smith. It really comes forth in his projects. You can see it is not about the money, but keeping honest to his vision & I respect the hell out of that.
Best “making of” extra I’ve ever seen. I love Kevin Smith. His heart his creativity and the great stories with amazing people he gives us. Every movie should be made with so much love and intricate investment.
I love how well you document your productions. This is the kind of stuff that lets you in on the realities behind these amazing films. Breaking it down to the simplest human elements. I find documentaries normally boring, even this one, but you can't help but be interested in the behind the scenes on your favorite big pictures. Not enough documenting on film sets.... MORE MORE MORE But. Less commentary more behind the scenes on the cast n crew
I loved this, thanks so much. I got to share Clerks II with an old friend, who loved Dogma. He loved it, The Donkey show nearly killed him. Great achievement, all of you.
@@RushISVarietyB lol, he announced that after I made my comment! I can't fucking wait, either, I hope he never stops telling these stories. It's gotta be good if Jeff Anderson is willing to do it, I figured he was done for good with Clerks
@@beeblebrux2112 same here, I thought Jeff Anderson was done but its awesome to see them getting back together and doing their thing. I get it, hes announced it before and it fell thru but I think thos is gonna happen!
shallow more like predijuce at least to some especially my grandparents I was in the second grade long hair 1975 and my grama did not like that at all.
I think what I most love about both Clerks, and Clerks 2, is that this is my time, my generation. Both these movies speak to me in a very awesome and funny way. Not that I think Kevin will ever see my RU-vid comment, but “Thank you Mr. Smith, you and your friends have given us all something very awesome to remember our time with!”
I love seeing three of my favorite directors brainstorming together. Quentin is such a character guy in terms of how he likes the story. And Rodriguez is more a technical guy giving like cutting notes.
Man i give everyone credit for coming back and kevin for writing a comedic mastapiece... honestly the funniest movie ive ever seen clerks 2 baby!! Cant wait for the 3rd to come out. Randal and elias characters were so good and when you throw jay and silent bob in on top of them its legendary
Somehow the melancholic attitude of Jeff Anderson when he says "being in you 30's and still not finding your way" spreads on the whole documentary. After seeing this, Clerks 2 will always have a grain of that feel for me
Holy shit I would be so nervous to have Quentin Tarantino review my movie in person but it's awesome to see him so excited and telling Kevin how much he liked the movie
I think the end makes us all remember that one friend that left us a child that we thought we would grow to be family men together and have our kids be friends and stuff. This makes us remember the past, the good and the bad.
@@mikel5163 I'm certain everybody in Hollywood knew. Especially a gossip hound like KS. But they accept it because there is nothing they can do about it.
@@markbigelow2608 "nothing they can do about it".... really? Thats not they how anybody should think man... (not saying Kevin Smith and everdybody else actually thought that... but come on man...)
There's just something about the magic you, together offer. Kevin, when you narrate or do public speaking it is so easy to listen. And that is coming from an impatient, cranky old woman.
i loved Clerks 2. but clerks 3 will probably never happen... probably... Side note.. it's been 11 years since clerks 2 came out. Now i feel fucking old... I miss being 21.. :(
@ready 2fly he doesn't want to do Clerks 3. Smith has the script finished presented to him numerous times and but he keeps denying it. Smith said he will never do Clerks 3 unless Anderson agrees to return.
ready 2fly like Smith says it’s not 100% no but it’s more likely no than yes. I would love to see a trilogy but clerks 2 did have the perfect ending. Not sure where they can take it.. nobody has interest in a story about Dante’s kid, or Randal finding love. Ya know what I mean.
nothing wrong with him wanting to not continue. Maybe the script for 3 wasnt actually that good. Look at Yoga Hosers (which i enjoyed but its worse than Jersey Girl, and i actually like Jersey Girl) He adapted the script for Clerks Sell Out into Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks 2. Maybe the unused Clerks 3 material will make Jay and Silent Bob Reboot that much better. Can't wait for reboot. Maybe Affleck can play Bluntman since he looks more suited for the role lately anyway.
Even if you don't like most of his films you got to admire Kevin Smith as he's someone who knows his strengths and weaknesses and plays to his loyal audience who stick by him. Also one of the best directors for loading up his DVDs/Blu Rays with ton of extras and great documentaries like this that in some cases are better then the feature films themselves (also the one that was done for Clerks is well worth watching too). I like Clerks 2, certainly isn't as groundbreaking as the first film but it has it's own charms. I think the original cast of Jeff Anderson and Brian O'Halloran aren't the greatest actors ever but you can tell they are having fun with it, especially Anderson who seemed to have a real love hate it relationship with Clerks. I think Rosario Dawson adds a bit of backbone to the film, and you totally believe her character would fall in love with Dante. For it's weaknesses, it doesn't quite have that low key charm of the original which is one of that films qualities, that dance sequence is awful and takes me out of the film, none of the new characters are as memorable as the original cast. But besides that it's a fun little movie and a good follow up. Great documentary to watch to see how hard and tough it is to get a film off the ground.
clerks 3 ( 2022 ) which is coming out ne dayyyy now LOL!!! also Jay & silent Bob REBOOT!!!!! ( 2019 ) MAN kevin smith is a LEGEND!!!!! in my books, hes wrote SO MUCH and stuck with some wicked OG's... like HE NEVER EVER FORGOT ABOUT FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!! DOGMA, Clerks, Clerks II, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and JUST SO MUCH energy his put into them!!! I love it & Love ALL OF THEM!!!! Kevin Smith I FRICKEN LOVE YOU MAN!!!!!! and glad everyone got HEALTHIER & BETTER!!!!!!
I'm a 90's kid.. so I grew up watching all of Kevin Smith's movies beginning with Clerks. He sorta has his own genre esp when his dialogue is concerned.. But Clerks 2 was one of those SUPER RARE sequels that did the original movie justice
I remember I was on the USS Detroit an Earl New Jersey just a few streets away and I remember when they were filming a few scenes at the quick stop. I remember pulling my car to the side and watching them for hours. I grew up watching the first clerks so this was absolutely mind-blowing for me.
This movie was such an amazing mature yet potty mouth extension to the classic. I was sorry to hear Clerks 3 would never happen, but this is a MASTERPIECE of a send off to the series! I can watch the last 20 minutes of the movie over and over and tear up. (including the donkey scene lmao)
Clerks 2 is one of my favourite movies ever! Its so funny and relatable and emotional like its just amazing, i can watch it over and over, me and my friend sometimes quote it its great, your best movie Kevin!
Mosier seems to think Jersey Girl was their first time working with big name celebrities... Yeah, those scenes with no names like Chris Rock, Alan Rickman, George Carlon, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Dogma nailed that idea...
This is my absolute favorite KS movie. Thank God Rosario said yes. She was brilliant. I can't imagine the train wreck if Bryce Dallas Howard had said yes. That woman is a robot.
This was a great little doc and i was thinking the same exact thing with the end scene. Was like woah holy shit out of no where this emotional scene and smiled at the end of it
Every time he says he's not going to do it again he ends up doing it again that's what I love about Kevin who else can't wait for Jay and Silent Bob reboot
@57:17 Randell in jail with Dante. I have to say, Jeff Anderson was a world class actor here. It's a brilliant scene, the whole film hinges on this scene, and would have failed if Jeff didn't make you believe it. That's called acting. Yea, I was fucking shocked too!
Picked up clerk's back in the day when Kroger's still rented out videos had no clue what it was about but later that night I sat in front of a big screen tv amazed and even tingling a bit in my gential area from watching clerk's
