DOGMA Filming Locations Tour: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l2Kli97SEsQ.html Jay and Silent Bob appearances I didn't include: ⚪ Plants vs. Zombies vs. Jay and Silent Bob - I never knew this existed and it didn't come up during my research for the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GJX8dWX4ym4.html ⚪ "Jay and Silent Bob Get Old" Live Shows (Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes weren't in character, so I didn't feel the need to include those): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oFhnr1vDGeM.html ⚪ Logic - Highlife Music Video (this dropped one month after my video was uploaded): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v_5vBTItb_A.html ⚪ Anything in-which Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes appeared but didn't actually play Jay and Silent Bob (Zach and Miri, Vulgar, etc...) I'll update this comment if I learn of anything else that wasn't included in this video.
I may as well be the 100th person to mention this, but just in case: 28:00 : This scene is actually a parody of a scene from "The Shining", where a door is open and we see one guy in a dog suit, presumably giving the guy on the bed 'intimate attention' 🤣 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--zXBByuwZFY.html
You forgot to mention the episode introduction shorts from the Clerks: Uncensored(animated series) DVD release, as well as several Comedy Central commercials reminding people to go out and vote, and the short "The Pool Boy Cometh"
Jason Mewes was in a Canadian show "Todd and the Book of Pure Evil". He was playing a Janitor and was a regular side character. I'm not sure if that fits your criteria as "appeared but didn't actually play J&SB".
Randal's Tuesday was on Kickstarter. Surprised you missed that! Game is a prequel to Randal's Monday. It's supposed to come out this year (2024) And this one will also be on Nintendo Switch. Oh and there's a demo that can be downloaded on the Kickstarter page!
Silent bob speaks on 2 separate occasions in Dogma too. He says "no tickets" when throwing Ben Affleck off the train, then later he says "thanks" when Chris Rock says if they clean up their language he'll put a good word in for them with Jesus.
Jason mews' story is super inspiring. The spinning image of a zero to hero. Nothing but respect for that man, and I wish him the best in his journey to sobriety
There's certain interviews where you get the distinct feeling Kevin sort of pushed Jason Mewes forward or put pressure on him to change his ways when he got too far into his addiction.
@@_cloudface_ dude .. Kevin tried helping Jason out with his addiction twice .. letting him even live with him and his family. little known fact about Kevin is that he is a devout Catholic. So bringing your junkie friend to the same place your wife and kids live is kinda not something a lot of them do. but since they were childhood friends Kevin did it .. and both times Jason stole a lot of money from Kevin's house and ran off. Jason has even talked about it and the moment he decided to kick smack. he said that he was in his apartment in LA and he was so wasted he didnt know he accidently caused a house fire and he was rescued all fucked up by firefighters
Not even gonna lie, Bob's monologue at the end of Chasing Amy changed my outlook on relationships and made me reflect on my insecurities as a young teen. It hands down made me a better person.
Yeah total good resdearcher lovuing this cpntent. Good addition to it's own universe. Learned soo much from this - I went to theatre for Mallrats! I was so young !
How do you keep covering topics that mean so much to me!? I deeply appreciate the retrospective coz hell, there were J&SB appearances I never even heard of before here! Love your work and thanx for this
i haven't read all the comics, but there was one called Chasing Dogma which bridges their adventure between Chasing Amy and Dogma and i really enjoyed it
And also introduces the World to NPH as a swearing vulgar version of himself. Not saying Harold and Kumar stole that right out of Chasing Dogma...but...they did
@@peartree8338 Which is funny because NPH famously crapped on Jay and Silent Bob (and specifically Mewes' acting ability) while promoting "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay".
FOR REAL dude I criiiiieeeed ... It was beautiful and nostalgic but heartfelt. I love Kevin no matter what, he can make whatever dumb shit he wants... Whether you like it or not you can't deny his enthusiasm comes through whatever he makes and he's having a good time doin what he loves. I appreciate that.
Clerk's came out on video in 95 my Rookie year as a law enforcement officer and I am five other young officers and our one older officer who was 55 got together and watched the movie and every one of us except our old cop buddy loved it, we were a very small town department. I was hooked and have been a fan ever since.
Honestly, I highly respect cops, you are the people who run into all kinds of unknowns to help people in need. The only grudge I have is with drug laws, as I believe a person should have the freedom over his body to choose what they consume, even if it is harmful. Its a healthcare problem if anything, making it a criminal problem helps nobody. But of course cops are enforcers of laws, they dont write them, so I guess as long as they dont actively seek out to ruin lives I have no problems with them. Its a standard rule of life: “dont be a dick”
This was very informative. I didn’t know they were in so many movies. I saw (and loved) them in Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back. I’ll be sure to check out all their other material.
Huge fan, thanks for covering the last comedy film duo. My Jay and Silent Bob collection of DVDs got stolen, and I watched them all monthly. (got my sub bro!)
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is one of my favorites. I love that Jason Lee is the one that warns them about their comic book being made into a Movie and he also plays the guy who stole it. Plus it has one of my favorite lines. When Ben Aflfeck talks about the order of how you do a movie.... You're like a child. What've I been telling you? You gotta do the safe picture. Then you can do the art picture. But then sometimes you gotta do the payback picture because your friend says you owe him. That stare at Kevin Smith is priceless.
In Dogma, Silent Bob also speaks on two separate occasions. He says "No ticket" on the train and "Thanks" to Rufus / God for considering letting them into Heaven.
I saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on pay per view back in 2001/2002 when the movie was going to home video. I had no idea, either, what the universe of their characters was about. I do remember seeing Dogma on like HBO or Starz when I was like 12 and was dumbfounded by what I was watching.
The clerks cartoon was great "why are we walking like this..." Also loved that you referenced the weekenders, such an underrated show! Still don't know why it's not on D+
One of your best videos and a great way to end the year. This dude has gotten me bingeing the view askewniverse since his mallratz vid. And it's great to have the whole Jay and Bob story in one organized video. RU-vid needs to pick this video up! fingers crossed! As always stay cool man B)
This video came up in my recommended and I’ll admit it got me interested in checking them out. So today I got to watch clerks and it was pretty cool! I was too young to watch it when it came out and I became aware of J&SB when I saw trailers for strike back in 2001. Until I now I never really got the characters but after watching clerks it’s definitely peaked my interest. Awesome video dude! 🤘🏻
Great compilation- I've wanted this for a while. You rarely got to see enough of them in the movies, so this is very gratifying. Good narration, and insight. 5 ⭐️ s.
Love these guys! Ever since I first watched Mallrats at 14. I never heard of Clerks and knew nothing about Mallrats but it was advertised in every one of my comic books for MONTHS so I was intrigued. I have to agree with you, aside from Brody's opening monologue about his cousin Walter, that first scene where they reference X-Men gets me every time. That's when i knew I found something special 💚!
Great video. Im still a huge mark for Kevin Smith. I have all his movies and i have my son watching them now. His favorite is the OG clerks but he quotes Mallrats all the time. Its a great feeling passing on the movies that touched me to my son and see it effect him like it did me at his age.
Weirdly enough I saw that someone made a video essay on that show about 2 weeks ago, here on RU-vid. I scrolled by it when I was searching for clips of the show.
I got to meet Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson at the St Louis Mighty Con. It was surreal. I told them what a huge deal this film was when it came out, and that I purchased a VHS copy and showed the film to all of my friends individually. They seemed like normal dowm to earth guys. I did not tell them that Clerks 3 should not have been made...
Saw clerks in 95 or 6 when i was in my early 20's been a huge fan ever since but i learned some stuff here i thoughts id seen everything jay and Kevin were involved in ( several times over) i was wrong good job bro
Not 100% in line with what you're talking about, but Kevin Smith made a couple appearances on the Big Bang Theory, one as a guest on Wil Wheaton's podcast, where he offered "Penny" a role in Clerks 3. He's not Silent Bob, but the acknowledgement is there. Also the joke before he offered the role was "This movie is something completely different than anything I have done before, it's called Clerks 3!"
I used to watch Soap and Bizarre in the late 70's and early 80's that weren't age-appropriate for me, and I'm so very glad you did the same thing with the Jay and Silent Bob/View Askew-iverse.
"And a guy named Matt Damon" Where did he have to be rescued from this time? ^^ Jay and silent Bob are absolutely legendary. Comedy wouldn't be the same without them.
My favorite thing of it all it's two characters that expand across movies that have nothing to do with each other most of the time. None of it makes sense but Kevin has built a world that doesn't make sense and THATS why it makes sense . 👏
I'm glad you mentioned the Sergio scene from Clerks 3 at the end. It's my favourite scene from the whole movie, especially cause my dad's name is Sergio.
In dogma silent bob says both "no ticket" and at the end "thanks". Short lines for sure, but definitely talked twice in dogma too. Friggin awesome video man. Great stuff.
Lots of good memories in here. Kevin Smith also had a View Askew Message Board where fans could interact with many of the actors and friends. Kevin's wife Jen had a room of her own to chat in as well. Sadly, Bryan Johnson got it shut down in a moment of insecurity. Also, The Shining is the new Navy Seals reference after this video commentary. 🤣
Absolutely love Jay and Silent Bob, who are clearly the R2 and 3PO of the Askewniverse. Cannot wait for Mallrats II, and hope and pray for a Dogma reissue and sequel.
When I was a kid I had Clerks, the Clerks animated series, Mall Rats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob strikes back and Clerks 2 on DVD. I literally would just watch them over and over ive probably seen all of those 50 times MINIMUM.
Jay and Silent Bob also star in the intro video for Kevin's movie theater Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, telling you to not talk and so forth. It is not currently online.
I dunno about the best duo of all time but they're definitely awesome and one of the funnier ones! There are just so many duos that work well. Make a video on great duos!😊
Think you should have tipped a nod to Jason Mewes movie "Madness in the Method". It's odd, not great, but showed some potential with his own creative process.
Great video, there were a few bits there I had no idea about, and I've been following Smith's career since 95! Clerks Animated might be my favourite out of all the View Askewverse, but I've generally enjoyed everything except the Super Groovy Cartoon Movie which I found unwatchable.
That’s awesome! I saw Kevin and Jay do a live event at Atlantic City Boardwalk Con in like, 2015? Never got to meet them but it was cool to be in the same room as them. I did meet the actors who played Dante, Veronica, and the Chewlies gum guy at a con though - really nice people.
Aight man not halfway through the vid and already found two things to watch after this, this is great thanks man. Ok few more minutes in and now two more videos added to the list lol. Also, strike back was my first askew flick as well, my friend told me I wouldn't get it it's packed with references I need to understand to find it funny and I'd probably hate it, but I watched it with him anyway and loved it. Now knowing what I know it's even better, but as you said it was already a great comedy flick I enjoyed immensely. Thanks again, hard to find a video about a subject I'm obsessed with that has any new info for me, and this has quite a bit as well as just is a pleasant view.
Pass few years in have been watching videos of stuff back in the 1980-2000 reminding me of good old days. Can't wait to die and go back and have food for under a dollar and gas under 2
As someone who grew up in the time when clerks came out, it was pure insanity. You now and then watched a new movie expecting nothing wired and suddenly Jay and Silent Bob showed up for absolutly no reason and just made the movie 10 times better.
This is an excellent video. I just wanted to point out that in the Nova Rockefeller music video, the scene with jay and Bob wasn’t just them getting it on, it was a reference to the ending of the 1980 film The Shining. It sounded like you were not aware of it, so I just wanted to let you know.
Someone else told me the reference personally after I uploaded the video, it’s been a while since I watched the shining but I probably still wouldn’t have made the connection 😅
I'm pretty sure I first witnessed this duo in Dogma until years later my Faja introduced me to Clerks and clerks 2 to this very day clerks 1 and 2 take a easy first place truly amazing films
