Welcome back to another film this week. Eric and Matt are in the backcountry of New Mexico. This hunt has been 12 months in the making planning and preparations in hopes of closing a chapter that was opened last year. If all goes as planned, this will be the hunt of a lifetime, the boys pack food and water for up to 10 days of living off their back in search of giant bull elk. This is a post rut hunt which should make things difficult. Sit back and relax and enjoy a true adventure.

A very relatable hunt, we all experience more failures than we do successes. Thanks for sharing!

eric you just reached a whole new level of hunter to me! for you not to shoot that big bull and just take that moment to be with the elk and observe them at last light bugling and chirping, thats one of the most beautifle things any hunter can ever experience, and holding that tru expression of being better than ok with that is absolutely amazing, you sir are now on the next level. this is one of the greatests examples of how all of us hunters can carry ourselves, I envision you encountering that big one you passed on in the future or one of his relatives and it may be the biggest bull you ever get. stay sharp brother!

I grew up in NM and as a kid, we went many seasons without filling a tag. I remember the indescribable feeling in the bottom of my stomach when I knew my hunt was over! I haven’t had that feeling in a long time and it all came back when you were talking about how your hunt was over. It’s real and thank you for sharing! It brought back lots of memories!

I love watching the grind and see all the Hush team always putting forth their best effort. Way to go gentlemen! Me personally I would have taken that Bull but that’s because I have not filled and elk tag yet. Although my goal is to get a Bull in September during the archery hunts in NM. I am completely hooked on archery. Not knowing any better I got into the archery game late. However 2024 will be my year! I am excited training and getting ready! Keep that beautiful Elk footage rolling! Thank you Hush for sharing everything the highs and the lows! 👏🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼💯🔥

Nice. Love the grind. Beats the pants out of guys shooting a dink from the truck. Most guys who create “content” are shooting animals just because, but those of us who really hunt don’t want to see the small animal that no one is proud of sticking out of the backpack. It’s not the kill that’s interesting, it’s the grind for an animal that makes you excited and proud to shoot--not solely because it’s legal.

I have hunted elk in Colorado for 54 years. I have had many hunts in those years in which I never saw an elk or even a fresh track. I can say with certainty that when you are fixated on elk far away you may not notice the big one that walks behind you. I've seen that happen more than once. I've also found it's not necessary to go miles into back country to find elk. Many hunters pass elk by on their way to the back country. Stay next to a tree and never sky line yourself. I used to hunt alone and there's no feeling like the primal feeling you get when you harvest an elk by yourself and are able to get it out by yourself. I've experienced nothing more satisfying but have passed on elk before because of the location.

I'd love to share this video with all the women on this one video I've seen a couple times where the wife is just having fun with her husband after his deer hunt went unsuccessful and he was about to head off to an elk hunt. It was a cute video but here comes all the bitter, man hating women saying things like "He's not hunting" and stuff like that, implying and straight out saying he's cheating on her because he didn't get anything. Its like they expect you to get something every time and that the animals are just jumping out at you begging to be taken. Pathetic how they take a cute 15 second video and turn it into that. Its hunting, its not supposed to be easy, your not guaranteed to get anything. You guys worked hard for it and didn't get anything. Such a bummer but still an awesome video, got to see some gorgeous country, a lot of nice elk who will become big bulls in the future hopefully :) As a photographer, I would have been super happy lol. I think I would love elk hunting, but have never hunted before and would not be able to afford a non resident tag in another state. We have a few small herds I think here in Minnesota but I haven't looked into seeing if they allowed hunting of them, and if so, I bet those are hard tags to get. I would totally hunt with my friend in Wyoming but those non resident tags are so expensive! Much respect to you.

Erick, its sad to see you have turned into a trophy hunter, you use to be the kind of hunter that stands for all of us elk hunters who draw a tag and are happy to harvest any elk that puts food on the table. isnt that what elk hunting is all about? or is there a new recipe how to cook horns?

Our LE elk hunt in here in Utah this year was just like this hunt. We hunted every day of the hunt plus two scouting days before. We had almost the same story. Covered a ton of country, and country we know holds big bulls. We only saw two giants, one the night before the hunt, and one during that we made a play on and just couldn't make it happen. We were able to connect with a decent bull on the last day, but not what we were hoping for. Unfortunately, 15 min after we shot this bull, the giant from the night before the opener stepped out. He had been there the whole time. He just stayed timbered up. In the end, we were very happy with the bull my sister shot, but it was just a different year this year. I'm sure it was the crazy winter we had, but everything was just off. For us it just felt like with all the feed and moisture that the elk, and deer for that matter, are just spread out more across the landscape and not so herded up. Crazy season and quite the grind for sure!
@gethushin
@gethushin 6 месяцев назад
Proof that they’re there even when you don’t see them. Sounds like you guys got the chance to hunt giant bulls with the family. I’m glad you got that time spent together on the mountain. Congrats on the bull she shot 👊🏼

@@gethushin we did. As off as everything was this year, I got to have that elk hunt with the family, I hunted the general any bull with a bow in hand with two very good friends thar we were successful in filing one of our tags (a very hard hunt that took all three of us to get that bull down), and hunted mule deer with my son for 6 of the 9 day hunt. It was a fun season chuck full of ups and downs, but always Blast! Can't wait to see the rest of your session play out! I have gotten allot of my pasion and will to grind hard from watching your videos, so thank you!
