I am going to backfill the west side of the pole barn where are dog kennel run will be. We are getting 5 dump truck loads to fill in this area. I will be moving all this dirt with the TYM T654 tractor. Once the area is graded the way I like it, we will install a few fence posts and plant grass.

Evan, save yourself some money. Contact local basement water proofing companies, excavating companies and sewer installers. I never have to pay for fill dirt. Often times the “fill dirt” that arrives is topsoil and I can save on my topsoil costs. If you have 3” of topsoil, that’ll be fine for the grass to grow. I’m sure your soil is still warm enough to get some germination. I enjoy your videos, people can really relate to your projects.

I always tried to do it all by myself with my own material but have found, you are just as far ahead going to work and spending your time making money for your project at your regular job. Then, have it your material delivered like you just did.. where you need it. There is enough work in just doing the finish work without adding the hassle of digging a borrow pit and being hard on your equipment and yourself.

That fill dirt ain't half bad. Might even grow grass. I have seen a lot worse. After the first week in November, doubtful that it will germinate but if the weather co-operates, who can say. I would extend the downspouts so that they do not wash out the bare soil over the winter.

That’s some nice looking backfill dirt. I know some people will think that is a crazy statement but I used to live where most of the dirt was clay. Clay dirt is like concrete. Almost impossible to dig in and turns into gumbo when wet.

That annual rye grass will literally grow on anything... I put down 150 lbs on hard clay/shale mixed with rocks and it looks like a stinking golf course now. I believe it germinates as low as 33 degrees

One suggestion when you're finishing an area for grass is to take a 4'x8' piece of chain link fence. Staple it to a 2x8 x 4ft board with 10' of rope stapled to each end. Pull it all over the area with your lawn mower to smooth out the tractor ruts... The ruts will hold water and get muddy faster than flat lawn that allows even absorption...

Hey the person telling you to keep the auger straight should be the one that gets to run the auger!
@robertduffy5805
@robertduffy5805 2 года назад
Suggestion - Make friends with an excavator company in your area and might have topsoil or file dirt they need to get rid of for free or a small fee when they are in your area. Just tell them where to dump it which will save them time and money too.
@jimputnam2044

You are right on the fill. Some times just buy decent stuff, I got a bunch of free from the highway when they widened it and cleaned out the ditches. Was a lot of slop from a nearby swampy area a lot of bushes which try to grow back even after they are buried and tramped in, plus some doozy size rocks we had to pick. Free is not always the way to go.

U could remove the top soil that is is there and replace it after you put some fill in have done that on several projects the added benefit is that you are down to clay and the back fill that u got will help everything drain better away from the building better
