Wow, impressive figuring out a way to get that done! And without having to take out the fence by the persimmon tree, just by the skin of your teeth. That looks really good. Suggestion for you - when you make your saw cuts in the concrete blocks, consider making them one hole inside your load-bearing column, and then fill the hole with rebar and mortar to strengthen the wall. Might even want to do that before cutting the wall out. Then, put a solid metal bollard on either end to keep the tractor from ever touching the wall and knocking your support out from under your columns. Those are tight quarters. You’ll end up losing a couple feet of opening but the risk of knocking a concrete block wall down is not insignificant and the repercussions would be severe. Good luck!
WHAT a job! Aren't tractors the BEST? I know I've been able to do so much more with mine than I could ever do without it, but holy smokes! I'd NEVER have attempted a job like this without help. GREAT WORK! Rebecca's going to be so proud!!
Adapt and overcome is the motto of the Marine Corp and you did just that with the opening. I noticed you took it slow and easy and was careful of what you did and by yourself, you did a very good job. The tractor was just the ticket to get that header up there where you could secure it and it worked out well and now you are closer to getting the barn ready for the livestock.
My great niece is 4. She just saw the white turkeys and argued with me that they were ducks. We are now going to look for an episode with a good barnyard view... Trying to start her young. Thanks for working on the barn Evan.
I m glad you are saving those 2x4s, probably much tighter growth rings than you can buy now 🙂 Wife b happy when you get home... lucky guy. and NO, you did a great job. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool!! Gosh, you're already really smashing those 2022 goals ❤️ Stay safe...I'm sure Rebekah was having a mild heart attack at work knowing you were doing that all by yourself. Joanna Corpus Christi TX
You did a GREAT job to be working by yourself. Have I thought about putting some bolts with nuts a washers on the 3 pressure-treated uprights help ensure they stay together since they are going to be more exposed to the weather just a suggestion
That went well, Evan. Having remodelled an old house by myself, I do congratulate you on the outcome. I had to drywall the ceiling, so I had to cut the sheetrock in half to put it up. It turned out well, and the landlord was happy with the results.
The old rule of improvise and adapt sure comes into play when you're working alone, and you did a nice job of it Evan. 👍That was a sizeable undertaking to do alone. But like you say I know you are glad it's done and it's a massive step forward in the overall project. I can already see those 2022 goals getting smashed. Thanks for sharing it.
Good job. You worked good. We could see you were aware of what was going on. No safe work permit on a home job. Nice to see you keep those old wall studs. No nails in them. Will work for a rough project. That opening will serve its purpose well. Following along Thanks for the video
From where I set in life right now (unable to do much) your channel is so enjoyable. You start a project and always make progress and CLEANUP the mess. SOOOO SATISFYING to me
Great video!! You are very resourceful, it’s amazing how handy a tractor is!! I had a royal palm Turkey like yours. And just like yours he gobbled at every unusual noise. When ever I was hammering on anything, he would gobble. Drove me crazy!! But he was a beautiful bird. We are really enjoying your videos.
Utilizing the old barn was a good idea. Revitalizing and upgrading your existing structures will add a good look to the farm! And on a different thought, I see you got Rebecca to give you that Christmas hair cut!
Great job. Very happy you added enough Jack studs to support the load. 6ft opening needs 2. 12 ft opening needs 3. Anything over 12 ft must be Engineered in my jurisdiction. The supplier can do that for us. Also, that Header could have been placed as single layers and nailed in place. It is easier, especially when working alone. Very pleased that you were working carefully and nice job. 😀
Yeah, the turkeys... "You worked hard? Doesn't matter! We're hungry!!!" 😉 Well done so far! Can't wait to see it when it's done! Thanks a lot for the video!😊👍🏻
