Sam, I have heard that 1132 can be used w/o adding a backing and i willl not off gas and turn wood floors yellow. Can 3095 be used in the same manner w/o it discoloring wood floors?
Thank you! All the punch needle folks I've seen keep saying to use iron on fabric and I am not at all convinced that will be enough for a pillow. Maybe they aren't as active with their pillows *wink *wink. JK! But the flexibility was what I was looking for info on so big thank you!
YAAASSSSSS! Thank you!! I just got my punch needles and supplies yesterday. Haven't gotten around to poking yet. >< I look forward to your next video! :D Enjoy your weekend, Sam!
The roberts is a health hazard according to the info on the bin. I’m going w Elmer’s :) when I used 3095 it smelt so bad and made my cats smell like chemicals when they used the rug
Just make sure you don’t get any sort of liquid or moisture on rugs you finished with Elmers as it breaks down very easily. I haven’t had any issues with 3095 but I have seen some tufters use 6700. Supposedly it doesn’t smell as bad but I haven’t tried it.
Hey! Love watching your videos, I'm also an artist that Tufts. Different products here in the UK, I'm yet to try the latex. Also can't wait to see how they wash. I'm experimenting with e6000 so the piece is washable for garments.
I live in a third world country where these products are not available, could you tell me what is the glue material it self insted of the commercial brand, is it a special type of glue that onle works with rugs or does it have other use ?
Hi Sam! Thank you so much for infomative video. I have a question: is rug washable with water? I am afraid that the glue will fade out in water and yarn will come out of the fabric.
Loving your videos ! Super helpful I did notice you had some MTN spray cans in the background of your last video, id love to see you use them in a video! keep up the great content !
GIRL I NEED YOUR HELP what is a good crafting table for tugging I am looking and looking and the yarn what is the good tool to stop it from coming out of your gun
My table is just a husky workbench (without the drawers) but I literally used the top of an IKEA Kallax shelf before. The yarn coming out of your gun is due to your feeding system. However you set up your yarn it has to be able to feed smoothly. Also make sure your cone or cake isn’t wound too tight. If you’re pulling directly from the center of a fresh skein it helps to pull a few feet out to loosen it up
I found that applying Roberts to burlap was actually pulling the yarn out and leaving large holes in my designs. Has anyone had experience with this? I didnt have this effect when applying Roberts to tufting cloth.
Lol yup that humidity will get ya! As long as it’s not coming off on your hands when you touch it and has turned that darker color it’s ok if it’s still tacky
Hey sam, this question is not related with this video but i just want to know which trimmer to use? I should go for sheep Shearer or i can do it with a normal trimmer?? Can you please help 😭
I am also having trouble with it. I don’t know which to choose. Because the normal trimmer is small and not so precise but you can also sculpt the rugs with it and in a long term you can use it for other things than rugs. On the other hand sheep shearer is bulky but the finish piece looks so good with it. The dilemma is real!
@@trickyshotz no, that is not what I meant. But wait, maybe, it depends on what trimmer you have in mind. The normal one for hair? Or the one that rug makers use.
Hey! So I’ve used all three at this point, the normal hair trimmer, the smaller rug trimmer and the big sheep shearer. The hair trimmer is an ok starting point it doesn’t cut quite as well as the rug trimmer so you’ll have to go over areas multiple times. The rug trimmer is good because it can cut through the yarn and handle detail cuts. The sheep shearer is a beast. It’s very heavy and loud and kind of aggressive honestly. You cannot do detailed cuts with this one its definitely only for larger areas. So if you’re not doing very large rugs I would go with the rug trimmer. They have it on TuftingGun.com but you can also find the exact same one on Amazon by searching “Dream Reach Pet grooming clippers”
Your tools and materials are the same no matter how big you’re frame is. Wood screws and nail tack strips. Any table or counter top will work as long as it has an edge to clamp your frame onto.
I was watching your videos and like how your explain the difference. I am new to tufting and just ordered a gun. I am not new to fabric though an have been doing upholstery for a long time. Have you ever used DAP Weldwood an would try?
i dont see anyone doing this-but i was thinking of putting secondary fabric on the back while the glue on the primary fabric is still not dry..do you have an idea why no one is doing this and they rather use two different kinds of glue?
If I were to put a backing on the Robert’s while it’s still tacky, would it dry properly? Do you think it would hold up in a washing machine? I’m trying to get into rug making but I have messy pets and am having trouble finding an adhesive that wouldn’t fall apart or ruin the piece in the wash. Thanks for your videos! They’ve been a huge help ❤️
It would set and hold the backing, yes. I haven’t washed my glue swatches yet but I am doing so soon and will have a video on it. From my experience with all these glues I think I would spring for the Bond adhesive in this situation it seems like it would hold up the best to cleaning. But again I can’t say for sure without further testing. ❤️
Wish you did 4002 and the 6700 type too and then tested the initial shedding. My dilemma s 3095 is too thick to be efficient for quality work. It doesn’t catch all of the yarn fibers in the “bonding” process. And once rugs are done they shed non stop. But Unfortunately that’s all people on RU-vid is using 🤦🏽♀️ except a select few.
A lot of that can be due to whatever yarn you are using. Acrylic is a much soft weave that isn’t as tightly wound as say wool. Because of this it’s really easy to pull apart which we see as shedding. Technique also comes into play, if you’re putting layer over layer of yarn into a single area no matter what kind of glue you use there will be parts that never touch the glue and can be pulled out. I use acrylic and have a few pieces that are over a year old now, the shedding significantly lessens over time and with occasional vacuuming.
I am also curious what the difference will be between 3095 and the 6700 that I have? I just tufted my first rug and home depot only had 6700, I am curious if I need to return and hunt for what she talks about here. How did it work for you?
