I have backpacked deep into the sierras for over 40 years spending many nights far from any trailhead and other people. I have never felt threatened or unsafe at any time. I have often heard coyotes during the night in the distance they never bothering me at all. There was one night about 5 miles in from the trailhead at Lake Edison on the way towards the John Muir trail. This was early Sept 2006. I had my 6 year old female black labrador dog sleeping next to me in my tent. It had gotten much colder in the maybe the 30s near midnight. Much earlier It was hard to get my dog settled down. My dog was getting cold with the temps dropping down below the 50s and 40s. I opened my sleeping bag pulling my dog next to me under my sleeping bag. She fell asleep next to me once very warm. Again nearing midnight my dog was quickly up and barking inside the tent. My dog would not stop barking inside the tent. After a few minutes I let her out of the tent. I began putting on my pants and shoes. She took off barking into the darkness. I immediately began calling her name loudly in the remote darkness. I suspected a deer or bear. I knew a deer would run away and the bear did not want to confront a barking dog. It did take about 5 minutes of calling walking out towards the barking. She returned to me having stopped barking. She must have chased away a deer or a bear. A dog will not get close enough for a bear to harm them. However, the barking dog is extremely irritating to the bear. As everyone knows having a barking dog in your face is irritating. We both went back into our tent with her covered under my sleeping bag and had a very good nights sleep until dawn. We spent another 2 or 3 nights further into the 4th and 3rd recess area of the Mono creek and up and over the Silver pass on the JMT returning to the further west to the Vermilion Resort. I am much more concerned about crazy or irrational people than by animals out in the wilderness areas.

I've had a very tough year too. I suddenly became severely disabled around the end of last year/beginning of this year - literally went from being very fit and healthy to totally disabled overnight, for no medical reason! I'm in the UK so can't get an operation, so I remain totally bedbound. Medical staff have been extremely abusive. Got no one to help or visit, just stuck all alone in bed unable to do anything. Can't walk, sit, eat solid food, have no use of my left arm either. No one cares, doctors just tell me to go into a nursing home - I'm a young woman, not having one foot in the grave already! Very tough year it's been. But Chris' stories are helping me too. And he always goes to beautiful locations to tell these stories. Amazing channel this is.

This was your scariest story yet! But here's an experience from one of my friends, which happened there in the Kings Canyon NP too. He and a few friends went hunting up there, at a spot where very few frequented. They got out of their truck, and as they were putting on their packs and gear, some of them walked around found 3 huge foot prints in the ground. It was dry grass, rocks, gravel, and pokey pine needles, somewhere people wouldn't dare walk around barefoot. And yet, here were huge foot prints where he could make out the pads, the toes, everything; the prints were human-like and was not a shoe print. He took pictures of the prints and posted them on his Facebook page. Putting his foot next to the prints, he estimated them to be 12 to 14 inches long.

My family and I had two run-ins with these creatures on the West Branch of the Feather River back in the 1970s. I have never forgotten being "escorted" out of the area by one. A few years ago I experienced strange knockings in a Pennsylvania state forest. I was in my car reading when I heard three loud tree knocking 50 yards from me. Again, three more knocks. Seconds later, I heard three more knocks but from a different direction. The third time, I heard the knockings from 50 yards away. Seconds later, I heard more tree knocking but from another direction. There were tree knockings from three different directions. I looked and looked to see who was making those tree knocking from 50 yards away but could not see anything through that thick brush. I was alone and wasn’t going to make any effort to find the source of those tree knocking. The whole event left me feeling uneasy.

Good stuff as always! My kids love cuddling up and listening to your story telling. I’ve been fishing and hiking all over California my entire life. Some of my family lived in a remote part of Trinity county outside of Weaverville, I spent a lot of time exploring as a kid and never did I have any strange encounters or feelings of uneasiness. As an adult I have had two strange experiences. In 2011 while steelhead fishing Redwood Creek behind the town of Orick a large single rock the size of a basketball came flying out of the trees across the river and landed on the cobbles of the river bed about 30-40 yards upstream from me, it definitely did not happen from a slide or tumble as it was dead quiet when it happened. The second strange encounter happened this past summer while with my family in the Humboldt redwoods while in the Avenue of the giants. I was with my two kids (7-9) when we were over come by very strong sulphur smell that soon changed to a foul pungent odor. Shortly after the smell subsided I sat my kids on a fallen tree for a photo, my son got beedy eyed and said “dad I just saw something very tall and brown run behind the trees over there.” I played it off like it was a deer but he casually said no, it was really tall. He has never fibbed or embellished any story ever. Happy Thanksgiving

damn you're a good story teller. I fell hook, line and sinker will probably never want to go out in the forest alone again. Bad enough that many years ago I took my dog, on a really short hike in a wooded trail near the C and O canal in Maryland. As I walked down the trail I experienced an eerie silence. I reached a point in the trail, only 15 minutes maybe even less than that from where i Parked, and suddenly I had goosebumps all over me and the dogs' hair was all standing along his back. When i experienced that I made a U - turn and hightailed it out of there at breakneck speed. I have never been back there ever again and never will. I'm not too keen on camping any more any way, kind of been there done that.

Freaky for sure.. I had an interesting 'encounter' a few weeks ago. I had found a spot to camp for the night in Tahoe National Forest. I was on a pull-off beside a forest service road asleep in my wedge camper on my Jeep when I was woken up by the worst smell... nasty.. Hair on my arms standing straight up (and again now as I type this). I assumed a bear was just outside the camper and I started yelling "Hey, bear! Hey, bear". Never heard anything and by the time I could get the tent unzipped and the big flashlight out, there was nothing to see. It was only a few days later that I started looking up what smells like that and it seems that many report similar smells from sasquatch encounters...

I’ve got a story and it’s a true story that happened to friend of mine.. He was out riding his horse down a old back road that nobody went down anymore here in WV … well he was riding along and it was evening starting to get a little dark… he seen something standing in the up ahead in the middle of the road … his horse starts going crazy and takes off through the woods .. the horse ended up knocking him off and when he gotten knocked off he also had his gun with him.. so he turns over on his belly with his gun ready…and faces whatever was standing in the road… it was a dark hooded figure.. he said he couldn’t see its face or it’s feet.. and when it came to the edge of the road he couldn’t hear it walk … and he said the way it moved was unnatural.. it was getting really low to the ground to see where he was.. he said he felt like it was looking straight at him even though he couldn’t see it’s face.. he thought to himself if stepped out into the woods off the road he would shoot… it didn’t speak or make a sound… it finally started walking on down the road.. he said swore it felt like it stopped to listen for him even though he couldn’t hear it walking.. he said it felt like he laid there for a long time til he felt like it moved on.. he said he got up and was real quiet as he went through the woods as quickly as possible in the opposite direction … he found his horse on down the road couple of miles eating in a field… He also said his dad came up on a hooded figure while he was out riding his horse about almost dark too.. and his horse was also terrified… I’m not sure exactly what it was or what a hooded figure be down some old back road… I read that there has been people who come upon hooded figures down back roads and in the woods… and was terrified of it .. they couldn’t see no face either.. Has anyone ever experience anything like that in the woods?

What was that noise as you were walking out at the very end? Sounded scary. Well that couple were lucky to escape with their lives. I read a squatch story where a person was found torn apart and it was determined not to be done by an animal. Pretty gruesome. The ominous smell seems to be a consistent report from those who've had squatch experiences. Another great story of things that go bump in the night, Chris! Keep them coming!

Ok, this was so scarey Chris. I love how most stories of Bigfoot involve size and smell. The fact that one had their face impressed on the fabric of the tent was spectacular. I would not have been able to remain there after seeing the clearing full of huts/ nests etc..I love the music and photos you insert, it is so beautiful where these stories come from. Have a great week. 🏕❤️🇦🇺🦘

At any rate, don't stop telling the stories. As you can see they help a lot of people. You are a good and excellent storyteller.

@𝙏𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢👉Kyle_Pallo WARNING! Chris, some scammer is impersonating you and other youtubers. He wrote to me claiming that he wanted to send me an expensive gift and wanted to extort personal information from me. At the time, his channel's name was '𝙏𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢👉Chris England', and is currently called '𝙏𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢👉Kyle_Pallo', it looks like he impersonates a different youtuber every now and then. Something needs to be done about this, he can't go unpunished. He will end up cheating someone. I don't understand why Chris doesn't do anything about these comments?
