Always be on the lookout for weather too. Even if it doesnt rain on you, storm clouds may mean its raining somewhere, and if you find yourself in a wash, canyon, or otherwise floodable area you could be in for a flash flood. I hear of people dying from those all the time, scary stuff.

A good booboo kit for the aforementioned abrasive environment. Depending on the desert ticks can be an issue too (they are in the desert I live in starting around March/April) so a good pair of tick removers and tweezers for pokey things. Knowing the temperature shift from day to night is important too and then packing accordingly. I've been on a trip that went from 80+ during the day to 25 before wind chill at night.

I love that it almost looks like an outdoor gear store lol.. Thats my only saving grace from not buying more gear as I’ve no space otherwise I ‘ m buying more tents , sleeping bags & on n on the excitement never stops..

Good pair of tweezers. I always carry a small sandwich baggie and individually wrapped dude wipes. That way i only open what i need and I can put the used wipes in the baggie and pack them out. Hydrate really well the day before the hike helps as well.

Good list. As a fellow ‘Desert Rat’ that puts many miles under foot in the Mojave and surrounding areas, the only other thing I’d add is a neck gaiter. Even with long sleeves and a wide-brim hat, your neck can easily be exposed.

Bring a comb in case of jumping cactus burrs. You can flick the off with it.

I live in the Colorado River valley, and I agree with most of your gear. I would ditch anything inflateable. you can patch it, but I use foam pads. 40 years of dealing with the dez, and I love it!

It’s the 6/4/23 in Australia. I’m about to do the Larapinta Trail in NT. Great video and advice for hiking in high temperatures. I will be hiking in the mid 30 degree Celsius and a little bit nervous. 😂

USGS maps will typically list springs on the map. It’s not always reliable because a lot of springs aren’t perennial so one spring that was productive last time you were there might be dry the next time you visit. Usually though when there is one spring in an area there are a few.

I carried all my water. 8L was HEAVY! But I balanced that with minimal food carry.

My only comment is DO NOT HIKE DESERT IN SUMMER. Better doing that on spring, fall or winter.

Don't bother with the expense of the MSR Guardian. Just buy a Sawyer Squeeze and Browns Bushcraft Millbank Bag - And if you don't have time to wait for your water to pre-filter in a Millbank Bag, then you're doing it (camping) wrong - Stop being in such a rush...

pack clear ski goggles if wind forecast . That flying sand will do your eyes in and no …sunglasses wont help.
