I want a video on building shelving and organization of all this extra kit I now have.

I like to remember the Ten Essentials using the acronym “SHRIMP FINN”. 1. Shelter 2. Hydration 3. Repair 4. Illumination 5. Medication (first aid) 6. Protection (from sun) hat, sunglasses. 7. Fire starting 8. Insulation (clothing) 9. Navigation 10. Nutrition

This is a very interesting way to remember it! Nice!

Great takes on gear. I’m old, not going fast or far, haha, but want a bit of comfort! Chair, coffee and a framed back. No camera gear, but fishing! Props to the channel and epic trails.

I wish there was a RU-vid channel that covered the task of trekking across terrain with zero paths and roads, requiring the use of topographic maps and printed satellite imagery - basically the way I trekked 870km across Armenia and Georgia back in 2014 in the middle of winter..
@BackpackingTV
@BackpackingTV 3 года назад
Sounds like a pretty hardcore trip! Thanks for the rec, I used to trek that way as a guide. I could probably come up with a video on that.

@@BackpackingTV I'd love to do it in my home country Australia, however, much like South America, our bushland is so incredibly thick and dense that you simply cannot walk off the beaten path without a bulldozer.. I envy those living in North America and Europe, where there are these beautiful open vistas that you can walk through..

Nice setup man! Love mystery ranch! Also gotta have a silk weight hoody or long sleeve! An item often overlooked. I see you wearing yours! I have the smaller backpacker version of your med kit. Same company too lol. I prefer the Grayl water filter at the moment. I know you have one too. Katadyn pocket micro filter is nice too. I use the sea to summit etherlite XT insulated pad. You might like that pad. They make an extreme version of it too for harsh winter conditions. Both are great! Love the built in pump sack. Sea to summit sleeping bags are nice too. I have the micro 2 version but i recently went back to synthetic sleeping bags. Particularly mountain hardwears lamina Z flame 22 degree bag. Love that bag!! Have owned a few of them over the years. Always go back! Thanks for sharing man! Stay safe! Hike on!!

Hiking in the desert, I highly recommend the OR sun protective gloves. I’ve been using them in New Mexico and they have saved my hands from sunburn.

Yes! Gloves are overlooked as it's so easy to get burned hands. Good call!

Inlove having real coffee also...have u ever tried the sea to Summit pour over? It's collapsible and pretty light...plus if u bring some coffee filters to use in it, the clean up is a breeze!

The sea to summit alpha is actually not titanium. Somehow I saw a few videos claiming it is, like this one, but actually it's just hard annodized alloy.

I’m not an ultralight snob, I’m just curious… without your camera equipment, how much does this particular load weigh? Great video/s by the way.
@BackpackingTV

Thanks! It depends on how many lenses I take. But with tripod, batteries, lenses, etc I'm typically carrying between 12 and 20 pounds of camera gear.

Hiya, do you "pack out" the wet coffee grounds? Does this add much weight? Thanks.
@BackpackingTV
@BackpackingTV 3 года назад
Typically I do, yes. But it can depend on the area because coffee grounds compost well. So it's not a terrible thing if you scatter them. Avoid dumping them in obvious piles for sure though.

@opie7afe
@opie7afe 3 года назад
@@cherylkaye can just do the same as your poo if the camp area dont have a privy. Burry it 6inches down. Or if you want to pack it out just try to remove as much water as possible. Just remember used coffee grounds will mold quickly.

why does mystery ranch have such shitty side pockets for water bottles? It's like they're stuck in the 90s. I really want a pack that carries weight well but Mystery Ranch doesn't seem to be very backpacker focus IMO
@BackpackingTV
@BackpackingTV 3 года назад
I haven't noticed this, never had a problem with the side pockets. Although yeah I see how they're not as aggressive as the Osprey's water bottle pockets. I've been using some of MR's newer packs and really enjoy them.
