I'm stuffing my face with over 126,000 calories so that I can give you the best damn food advice ever (when it comes to backpacking meals, that is).

while I love the flavors I really wish someone would start making low carb meals for those of us who are diabetic. no matter how you cut it 65 carbs for half a package is way too many carbs for any diabetic.

Was literally eating the three bean chili while watching this. Preparing for a trip in a few weeks and trying them all so I do not become the stinky kid. 🤣🤣🤣 Looking forward to trying the others I have. I like these because of the sodium content or lack of. I hate salt bombs during a trip…by the end of my backpacking trips, I am so sick of the meal in bag items. Excited about these.

You posted this video the day after I bought some from REI because they were on sale. Trying them out for the first time this coming up weekend! I did NOT pick up the Pad Thai or Thai Curry though. Dang ittt

I was on a 30 mile through hike in Colorado and I had the Thai curry one with me but I never got around to eating it unfortunately it’s sitting in my store of extra backpacking food that I have I might have to dig it out and try it 😂

Hey there, great question! One bag will should fill you up, obviously this depends on how much you can put away. We took some of these on our winter camping shoot last year, and two bags fed three very hungry and cold people. Hope that helps!

If you're going on a very long day hike without a jetboil or ability to make fire to boil water, couldn't you use a Thermos Food Jar and boil / cook before leaving. Thermos usually keeps food hot for ~7hrs.

If you trust your thermos enough, you could certainly try it! Just might take awhile longer for your meal to be ready...

It's hard to trust you as clearly this is an ad or sponsored or both. I've had the Mexican quinoa one and it was awful and I never went back. I'm curious about some you tried so I'll give it a go but... All of them are good???

Happy they were on board to do it. I think they're good but I get that not everybody has the same taste!

Chicken Gumbo ruined my night out in Dolly Sods. It was terrible. I ended up feeding the wildlife with most of it.

Had a similar experience with their Pad Thai. It wasn’t awful, but wasn’t great either. Tasted like a cup of noodle with peanuts. Not sure how they got away with calling it Pad Thai.

We must have got a bad batch or something. Bought 6 of them for a bike packing trip. These things were un-cookable, quite disgusting to put in your mouth and worthless. It's unhealthy to eat uncooked food like that and regardless of how much boiling water we added... crunchy dog shit. We ended up just not eating them after 5000calorie days out there. The last three I tried to eat at home after the trip... f@cking gross and another $45 tossed in the trash. It's amazing these things are still on the market. I'd rather live on sand and Swedish Fish for a week.

If you can purify your water in the wilderness you can cut a lot of the water weight. Also freeze dried meals last a hell of a lot longer. Normal shelf life for freeze dried is like 5 to 6 years.

Is Backpackers Pantry the brand that shall not be named? Their Pad Thai is INCREDIBLE. Don’t avoid that brand all together!

I tried 5 or 6 of backpackers pantry meals and they are ALL awful. couldn't finish them even super hungry. being vegetarian (ovo/lacto/fishes) these GTG meals appeal to me. very few options for me from mountain house which tastes a lot better. I'll give packit gourmet a chance at some point I guess. thx for the taste test. I'm not sure I can eat fish from a bag however.

It's what was not said that bothers me most. Even on their website, they do not include nutritional information that I could find easily, I couldn't even find it clicking on every link on their page. Nothing about sodium, nothing about cholesterol or high fat, nothing about added sugar. For older backpackers and hikers, this is a big concern. The obvious health tags, gluten-free, Organic, vegan/vegetarian addressed while the concerns absent is a big red flag to me.

I was looking for the same thing. If you go onto their website, pick the meal you’re interested in and scroll to the 2nd photo. It displays the back of the packaging with all nutritional facts. Hope this helps!
