BACKPACKING SOLO The PACIFIC CREST TRAIL | Trout Lake to Cascade Locks Pass | PCT 2022 SOBO // At the beginning of August in 2022, I left the trailhead from Snoqualmie Pass in Washington State and headed southbound (SOBO) along the Pacific Crest Trail towards Cascade Locks, Oregon for a 17 day/250-mile solo backpacking adventure.
Along the way, I’d resupply at White Pass, Washington, Trout Lake, Washington and finish my PCT section hike at Cascade Locks, Oregon.
For the third and final section of my solo SoBo backpacking adventure along the PCT, I set out to hike 82 miles in 6 days, ending my hike as I crossed over the Bridge of the Gods and into Cascade Locks, Oregon. Along the way, I'd camp at a beautiful alpine lake, take an alternate off of the PCT and visit a fire lookout, be treated to epic views of all of the nearby volcanoes and enjoy my last sunrise out on trail as I hiked into town.
This video is Part 3 out of 3 in this series.

This was the last and final stretch of my solo SoBo section hike along the Pacific Crest Trail from Snoqualmie Pass here in Washington to Cascade Locks in Oregon. I managed to score quite a few beautiful tentsites long this stretch...Mosquito Creek, Blue Lake, a viewpoint with an epic view of Mount Hood, Trout Lake and even bumped into some trail magic. I also checked out the Red Mountain Lookout along a short alternate just off of the PCT, which had 360 views of Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Mount St Helens, Mount Hood and EVEN Mount Jefferson.

Thanks for watching! I agree with you, backpacking is the greatest thing EVER!!! And trail magic, well that's pretty awesome too whenever you're lucky enough to stumble upon it when you're out on trail.

That looks like so much fun and good pain! Such a unique view that one rarely sees of the SOBO part of the trail. Loved it!

Thanks! I had a couple NoBo hikers tell me they were excited to watch my videos because they were curious what the trail would be like heading in the opposite direction. Now that I've done all of Washington along the PCT twice, in each direction, I can honestly say that heading in the opposite direction definitely gives you a different perspective of the trail.

Yup! I kept showing Mount Hood because I had so many incredible views of Mount Hood on my way into Cascade Locks. The Timberline Trail is definitely on my hiking list. One day, hopefully soon!

Excellent series. I watch all 3 episodes and was entranced. I have a quick question: How did you get home? Did someone come to pick you up or did you take a bus? Love the shoes. I'm glad you have a great hike and arrived safely.

Im glade we don't have bugs like that
@TheHungryHiker
@TheHungryHiker Год назад
Winter hung around way later than usual this year, which means we had a long snow melt and with that comes the bugs. A lot of hikers were saying that the bugs in Washington were worse than Oregon. Luckily, the bugs were only bad in pockets of the trail instead of the whole area.

What is your average MPH on normal days? I’m planning on doing the entire WA PCT over a few summers. Wondering if 60 miles a week (10 miles a day, 6 days a week and 1 rest day) is a reasonable pace for current day hiker. I’m thinking an average MPH of 1-1.5, so 8 hours of hiking a day.
@TheHungryHiker
@TheHungryHiker Год назад
The mileage you hike per day out on trail is so personal. It's going to depend on you, your trip objective and your health. When I thru-hiked the PCT, I was hiking anywhere from 15 to 25 miles a day, depending on the section and how far I was up on the trail. For this trip, I decided that I wanted to take my time, be choosy about the tentsites I set up at and stopped at most of the lakes along the trail so I was doing lower mileage days in most parts. I ended up completing this section (about 250 miles) over 17 days. Figure out what's important to you and hike the hike you want to hike. Have fun and good luck!

Good work on the video. Gun shots probably a police training range
@TheHungryHiker
@TheHungryHiker Год назад
Thanks! And who knows about the gun shots. Could have been a range. Could have been random people out there target practicing. I guess I'll never know. Whet I do know is that it was a bit alarming. Lots of dirt roads in this section, which makes parts of this trail easily accessible to non-hikers...
