I was just watching this video and just tried applying for the enchantment permit for no reason. I've been looking without luck. But today as I was watching this video, I miraculously got a permit for 4 days. You both are my lucky charm. I'm a new subscriber but I haven't stopped liking and watching as much as I can everyday. Thank you for all your continued efforts. Love love love 🥰
The Enchantments looked beautiful! Sorry you didn’t have the full experience you wanted but it looked pretty great anyway! Glad you chose safety first! Loved watching another one of your adventures!!! Keep ‘em coming! 💕
I wish I had watched this before I went to WA in early April. My husband and I planned to hike to Colchuck lake and back (starting from colchuck trailhead) however, they closed the road up to the parking lot. So we had to hike all the way up to the trailhead from where we parked which added about 4 miles for us. Didnt realize how much snow there would still be. When we finally started the colchuck trail, it was quite dangerous. Lots of the snow slicked over to ice which made it extremely hard to walk on. Because of safety and time, we ended up turning back around. Was extremely disappointed we didn't see colchuck lake, but we understand safety cannot be compromised. just like you guys, our plan didn't work out but we did get to see amazing mountain views. Also, I really appreciate how thorough you guys explain the trails and the usage of maps. I finally understand what im looking at and what people say when they said asgard etc
We’re so sorry y’all didn’t get to experience it and had to add so much mileage! We have heard the road stays closed until the early summer, but hadn’t checked it out that early in the season before. It’s such a gorgeous area so we hope you can go back sometime in the summer and hike to the lake!
Great capture of the day! Have done this through hike 5 times and you grabbed all the highlights. How you did that hike in those shoes and no poles I have no idea 😂loved the music 🎉
Thanks and thanks for watching! Our shoes are very comfortable and we don't normally use poles especially with all of camera gear we carry and when we have our dog with us...just aren't enough hands
The "waterfall" you saw is actually part of the water supply for the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery. During construction of the hatchery back in the '30s they realized they needed a cold water source besides Icicle River to raise the salmon. They undertook an amazing project to tunnel though solid granite under Snow Lake. All their equipment and supplies were hauled in by mule train. Then they blasted a hole in the bottom of the lake. The outflow is controlled by a huge gate valve which the hatchery turns on in summer and off in the fall. That is what you saw. So basically they are draining the lake like a bathtub. They have displays on this at the fish hatchery.
I admire you guys, I have never left Jamaica but if your interested we have mountains such as Blue Mountain and other resorts you could explore. Also it would be amazing to meet a lovely couple such as yourselves. But whatever the winds takes you, you go. I love you guys.❤️
@@AdventuresofAplusK yah I've been to Tuck and Robin which is close to that area really beautiful but that area has a lot of people...no permits though :)
My mom would’ve been so mad at us! Lol! 🙈 It likely would’ve been ok, people were going up it that day, but those 30lb backpacks make hiking a whole lot harder!
If you love the enchantments, plan a trip to the Bridget Wilderness particularly around Island lake in the Wind River Range by Pinedale Wyoming. You WILL need bear spray.
😮😮😮❤️ I have LOVED watching your videos and getting really nostalgic seeing your experience in places I've been before. But how have I never heard of the Enchantments before?? The competition for permits saddens me as I'd love to work this into a future trip, but it sounds unlikely we'd do it on the limited dates we'd have. It's like 'The Wave' all over again! Your plan for working around the snow lake camping permit was really good, as I don't know anything about this area, to me it didn't sound that different to being in the core area. Shame about the Aasgard Pass, but I agree, the colours with the leaves changing was just spectacular, and had you gone earlier to avoid snow, you wouldn't have got the same experience!
It’s SO magical! We would highly recommend doing a day hike to Colchuck Lake (only a day use permit required) if you make it back to Washington. It’s at the bottom of Aasgard Pass (so it’s not in this video), but we have hiked to it before and it’s incredible! 😍
@@AdventuresofAplusK Ooooh good to know, I noticed you mentioned you'd done that hike prior to this trip 🙌 Do you know if competition for day hike permits for Colchuck Lake is just as strong or are they easier to obtain?
They are super easy! You just have to get a Northwest Forest Day Pass (which you can buy in many stores) and then just display it when you park. Parking can be tough, but if you arrive super early, you shouldn't have any issues.
They close the road to one of the trailheads in the winter because it can be a bit dangerous on ice and snow. But you can usually hike to Colchuck lake through the fall!
I know this is an old video, but can you recommend power banks to get you through a 3-4 day hiking trip? We're heading through the Core zone for 4 days in June. Seems like you guys had a lot going on (watching movies, making videos), so hoping you have a decent rec. The link to the one in your blog post from this is no longer working. Thanks!
Hey Jennifer! Thanks for the heads up on the broken link! We use these (amzn.to/44fVYsY). We usually take 2-3 of them for a 3-4 day trip. But that depends on how much gear we have with us....2 cameras, gopros, drone, 2 cell phones. We don't always take the drone. We also keep our cell phones on airplane mode and that helps conserve the battery. If you are taking just a phone I think 1 power bank would be sufficient. Hope that helps!
Geeeezers had to go through all that for the pass and couldn't have a camp fire 😐 that kinda blows. But hey it's BEAUTIFUL there! You two are true hiker troopers! Woohoo!
We shockingly have yet to ever see a bear (Even from the car!) and we have been to so many bear hot spots like Banff and the Tetons. But we are pretty glad we haven’t run into one on a trail! We brought bear spray and a bear canister for this backpacking trip, but only saw mountain goats. I haven’t heard tooo much about bears being on this hike. I am sure they are around, but not as common as some other spots. They also would only be black bears, which are less aggressive than grizzlies!
We’ve been taking a little break to de-stress (we explained a bit why on the “community” tab of our channel!), but we will be back later this week! 🙌🏼🎉
