I've been hiking for 60 years. Make a list of things you may need, and keep it. Grand piano. Inform NOK of intentions. Boots Duct tape Strapping tape Rain trousers Weather forecast Charge phone. Airplane mode? Etc I have made my own backpack for $20 and carry up to 15kg for 10 days.
Nice to see you doing some more vids. I must compliment you on your pack, I have the same one but unfortunately didn't get to use it on my section hike up the AT this past spring bc my 14 year old son begged to use it for the trip and I gave in and used my old Army pack instead. The things we give up for our kids, never thought it would be my favorite pack :)
This is a strange idea but for a snack, buy a pizza lunchable, repackage it and replace the cheese with babybell swiss cheese which is shelf safe, good idea for kids
Cool. Learned a few things on layering the backpack. I will be on a three day trip in the Belgian Ardennes near Bouillon, starting this saturday. Safe travels!.....
Great food ideas! Thanks! I bought a couple droms for my son and I last year. We used then on a 1 night test run for backpacking this spring. They held a good amount of water and we're very tough. Problem is... The water tasted HORRIBLE! I could not drink it without retching. I read they changed their design a while back. Sadly it is a common complaint.
Hi Rob, glad you like the food ideas. As for the Droms, that's pretty common for first time use for the water to taste plastic-y. Make sure you give them a good rinse out. Also, if you still have water taste issues, I recommend backpacking with things like Crystal Lite, or flavor packs. Sometimes it's just the water itself that I filter, not the container, that tastes awful, and flavor packs mask bad-tasting water.
BackpackingTV, thanks, will try it out! Appreciate it. Keep up the great content. Your channel and a couple others motivated me to start backpacking with my son!
Just found your channel. thank you for the food ideas. I've been putting together my pack for 8 months now not the lightest but inexpensive and durable. Buy once. I'm on to the food aspect now. I hope soon to get a total pack weight for a two night.
I'm happy that you're posting again. But the videos that preceded these new ones seemed more professionally done. Are these new vlog-style videos going to be the new format on the channel? What can old time subscribers expect from the direction this channel is takin? :)
Hi Lokesh, thanks for your comment! We're going to be doing a mix of vlog style videos like these ones and more that are a bit more 'polished' like the old videos. If you have any suggestions, we'd love to hear them!
Just came across this video like 5min ago 😂😂 This probably won't happen but can you please do a budget backpacking setup for somewhat broke student? I'd appreciate it very much and very body that watches I would hope 🙏🙏
BackpackingTV oh I will! Thank you sir 👌🏼 I live in Oregon and it's summer time and I've gone camping before, but I'd love to do a backpacking trip still! Also just thought about this, up here it's cold half the year and hot the other half, can you please do like a set up that could possibly accommodate that kind of climate change please if you ever have the time on your hands? 😂😂 and thank you 🙏
Anyone know the backpack size he used? He mentioned everything else except this! I’m wondering whether buying a 58L pack will be enough with similar gear.
I'm carnivore so it's much harder for me to carry food but my girlfriend who backpacks doesn't give a crap about food. On a two day trip she will literally bring candy and get a large meat lovers pizza up the mountain up there, it's heavy and a long walk but people big her for a slice but she is like "hell no." She is the only person I know that will gain 5 lbs on a long hike backpacking trip xD
Thanks! There was nothing special about this mic, just the built in mic on my Sony A7riii. Normally I have a Senhiesser but I was trying to be slightly more discreet in here.
Hey Eric. I had a question about your choice of protein. The adelis precooked sausages say that they need to be kept refrigerated. How long do they last? I'm nervous about packing these in my bag and getting sick in the back country. Thanks for your channel I've enjoyed it and have learned a lot!
Hey Michael, good question. I've had success with them for up to four days. But this depends on weather. I took them backpacking in Utah in summer and they were good for about a day and a half before they became suspect. It's still meat, so you have to be careful, use at your own risk. But in general conditions you've got about 2 or 3 days.
Correct, I do not bring tomato paste. Just water is fine for backpacking purposes. It can be a little bland if you don't add anything else. I usually like to add a little garlic and some jalapeno, which are pretty easy to carry.
Hey Nick! It's a Dromedary from MSR - they come in an assortment of sizes and they're a great way to pack water. It's not a bladder system, so you have to decant your water into your pots, water bottles, etc. You can check them out here: www.msrgear.com/ca/water-treatment/storage-bags/dromedary-bags/dromedary-bags.html
Aidells sausage doesnt spoil? I buy them all the time and they're refrigerated in the market, so I never thought to pack them. We can't do nuts since my son has an allergy, and Im always looking for other protein options (we typically do tuna/salmon packets, jerky/pepperoni). Any other suggestions?
because he is a man ..... a REAL man......not an instagram my life is perfectly filtered "man" who cries when he cant have wifi in the middle of the Forrest.......
Hey Kerry, you don't have to use those foods specifically. Basically, it's helpful to know grocery stores can offer tasty food for backpacking, such as dried soup packages, smoked meats, and flavored nuts. These are just ideas. I'm sure you can find good solutions with what is available near you. Good luck!
