I never backpack without my dog. There is nothing better than that! Just the two of us. @thomas: take a separate waterbottle for the dog and you can put the water back in so nothing goes to waste.
Would also like to add you could wear a harness for yourself to attach the dog. Much easier than holding the leash or attaching it via the hip belt clip. Canicross has lots of light/cheap ones which are great for balance and hands-free.
@@joefoster5669 Ruffwear has a leash that has an adjustable handle that can be extended large enough to go around your waist. Very useful for hands free leash use! Edit: I noticed at 33:45 ish he's using that leash.
yeah he wasnt well prepared or it doesnt seem like he was to take his dog, little frustrating that he didnt have a little blanket/mat/waterbottle for the doggy
The new intro and theme look and sound fantastic! 👌 Bryan couldn't have said it better, It takes 100,000 to tango! A great way to come full circle back to where it all began! Beautifully shot! The plant and mushroom id and fire starting by Andrew, what more could you ask for?! Loved the redux on the music from the original episode! French Woman on a Bike is classic Adventure Archives. An excellent idea! Sierra proved her worth! 🐶 Kudos to Nate for the amazing drums and to Marisa, such a beautiful voice. Thank you Andrew, Bryan, Robby, Thomas and Sierra.👍🙏 Oh and the shout outs were once again sublime! No pathetic cards in this deck! LOL
1:07:01 The way you can tell if it's a black widow's web is if you pluck at one of the strings; if it breaks easily, it isn't a black widow web. Black widow webs, pound for pound, have more strength than steel. You can feel it in the web fibers; it almost feels like a taut piano wire when you pluck it.
My daughter and I have watched pretty much all of your videos, and we just want to say how much we love them. We started watching you guys in the middle of quarantine, and it became a routine for us to watch your videos every day. We can't wait to see what else you guys post!
Y'all are like comfort TV for me that I turn on when I don't know what else to watch and I've seen this episode multiple times, but I never noticed the hilarious Star Trek deep cut parody at the end lol, pure gold. "THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS" 🥴
AdventureArchives = Me watching for hours and hours and hours and hours and.... wait?!, what day is it?!?! In all seriousness you guys are great! What a great friendship that you guy have. Thank you for all of the hard work in getting these videos out!
After seeing this video a few years ago, we were motivated to visit Dolly Sods. We love it. We've been four or five times now. Visiting in the fall is awesome! Outstanding video!
I hike with my gang every year since 2010. This is the first year I didn't go hiking. Glad to experience nature through your channel during this stressful time.
Nice new vid guys. I love that Thomas tan pants treats Sierra like his dog daughter. I feel the same way about my dog son Ranger. He was born at an animal shelter in Mississippi and came all the way to Maine to be a part of our family. His original name was Vinn which was changed somewhere along the way. He was adopted by a different family first and he was rehomed to me 💚 That makes 4 homes before he was a year old. This is his final home too.
I really miss watching the 4 of you guys together...see how you guys are taking precautions, like no sharing of food this time 😁👍...Thank God for this ❤
I lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba for 14 years, and I will never forget the beauty of those quaking aspen trees. Especially when they turn yellow in the fall. Those golden leaves against the blue sky was a sight to behold.
On #ThisDayInHistory in 1974, 32-year-old Muhammad Ali became the heavyweight champion of the world for the second time when he knocked out 25-year-old champ, George Foreman in the eighth round of the “Rumble in the Jungle,” a match in Kinshasa, Zaire now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). Seven years before, Ali had lost his title when the government accused him of draft-dodging and the boxing commission took away his license. The “Rumble in the Jungle” was Africa’s first world heavyweight championship match. The government of the Central African nation staged the event - its president, Mobutu Sese Seko, personally paid each of the fighters $5 million simply for showing up. At 4:30am, 60,000 spectators gathered in the moonlight at the outdoor Stade du 20 Mai to watch the fight. They were chanting “Ali, bomaye” (“Ali, kill him”) in the Lingala language. When the fighters entered the ring, Foreman possessed the heavyweight title, but Ali owned the hearts of the crowd. By the eighth round, the referee counted Foreman out and declared Ali the champion by knockout. Ali had become only the second heavyweight in history, behind Floyd Patterson, to regain his championship belt. To learn more about this moment in history, visit histv.co/2HSgp9A
I have a camp just to the north at Mt. Storm lake. My father established the camp as a base to explore the surrounding area. We backpacked thru the wilderness area back during the eighties before the crowds discovered it. It has always been a magical place to me. Thank You for capturing the essence of "Heaven".
With Sierra as part of the AA crew you have a new fan...my female Border Collie Kye...she loves watching other dogs (and livestock and cats) on TV. She loved this video
lmfao! do yall put skits at the end of every video? this is the first time ive seen the skits and all i can say is... WOW! i am speechless... i like you guys even more now. yall funny af.
I love how the four of you immerse yourselves in the experience of nature. After a lifetime of hiking and riding the Cascades in the PNW, I’ve enjoyed seeing a very different part of the country through your eyes.
Dobbin Grade is a mess and has been for years. When I took my kids on a trip this summer, we camped in the same place you did at the bottom of Harman trail, then the next day took a day hike down to the Forks, then up the Upper Red Creek trail back to Bear Rocks trail. We then went down Beaver View trail to an AWESOME campsite where it bends around a point. Day 3 we hiked back Bear Rocks Trail to the trailhead.
I just hiked blackbird knob starting from the wilderness way side you guys originally had planned to do. You have to contact the wildlife refuge office and they will email you the permit to fill out at no cost. Just takes a couple days but they are very quick with their responses for next time you plan to hike dolly sods. I highly recommend this section of the wilderness!
Great Video Guys, I really like how you talk about the mushrooms and edible plants in the area, also identifying plants and trees, keep up the great work... after watching your channel, I literally can stay home and travel with you guys. lol
Robby, you have to really toss the frisbee far, dogs want to run and she is a retriever, they are bred for the water and cold. I think a lot of us are here more for the after meal than the actual hike, LOL. Great sentiment guys, we should realize the beauty of this natural world, no man made structure can even come close to its simplicity and complexity.
Since I just discovered this lovely channel, I am now viewing the previous episodes. I am happy to see the first hiking trip with Sierra. I was happy to see everyone making her feel like part of the group and gave her the needed attention especially with these tiring journeys. Thomas is like her dad and best friend, always keeping an eye on her and seeking her best interest every step of the way!!!! That was really cool to watch. A wonderful episode, seeing all 4 guys together and Sierra!
I enjoyed this one because you guys were more relaxed and not in a hurry to get anywhere and so it was just kind of fun to be out there with you and you had more time to kind of enjoy the camp sites. anyway. It was fun.
Your videos have helped make this terrible year more bearable. Sometimes they even cause an emotional reaction because I miss hiking/camping so much. Thank you for reminding me that the world is still beautiful and that things will eventually get better.
Lion's Head in Dolly Sods is a must see if/when anyone goes! I went at the turn of the fall and the colors were gorgeous. The camp spots near the overlook filled up quickly though but tip: there are more somewhat secluded spots across the clearing from where the initial sites are along the trail.
Man your subscribers are the best. Just finished this video today and that leash blew my mind. It’s so well-made and that’s so generous of Troy to send such a thoughtful gift to you. So wholesome!
So great to see you all again. Thoroughly enjoyed watching your adventure and seeing you together again. Thumbs up on new menu. Hawks vittles 10 thumbs up been on our menu for years. Welcome Sierra to adventure archives great hiking companion. Our greatest wish is to meet you one day in all our adventures
Love the vid fellas - I am a West Virginia native and discovered and fell in love with Dolly Sods in May of 2020. A few friends of mine and myself tried to park at that same parking lot at the Blackbird Knob Trailhead that you guys did, and also had no idea about the parking permit. We discovered that the parking lot about a mile down the road that you pass before you arrive at the parking permit lot had no indicators that it required a parking permit. We ended up parking there and hiking to the trailhead from there, which wasn't that bad. We were worried that we would get a ticket anyway, but ended up not receiving one after staying overnight, even though parking enforcement had issued tickets at the parking permit lot near the trailhead. Long story short, if you guys or anyone else cannot get a parking permit for the parking permit lot closest to the Blackbird Knob trailhead, try the lower parking lot that is about a mile down-road from the direction that you came in. Also be sure to check the signs there to make sure nothing has been added about needing tickets there! Cheers!
I found your channel about a week ago and cannot get enough. Watching to see the views from the trail and hear how you are feeling about what you see, the explanations regarding the flora and fauna, makes me want to break out my old field guides! I never was a backpacker, but any time I was out in nature, I was into finding the names of what I was seeing. I am happy to count myself among your fans. This channel is the second best remedy for SAD, the first is actually being out in nature!
@14:00 When needing to conserve water, I pour my dog's extra water into my water collection pouch. I can then either pour it back in his bowl, or filter it for myself. Great trip and awesome vid!
Yet another wonderful episode gents - thank you so much, you’ve inspired me and my husband to go hiking as soon as possible here in Melbourne, Aus! Sierra is a delight too!
I've been watching AA for the past month and I feel like this video is crucial lore. The origins of Sierra and Andrew's long hair! Return to Dolly Sods! First pandemic-times reunion! Clearly a must watch.
Feeling so down today but when your video popped up it gave me hope again! I missed you guys! So happy to see everyone together again! Thank you again!
Amazing video as always. My fiancée, dog, and I have been to Dolly Sods twice since originally finding your videos earlier in the year - Sorry that we're one of those many, many people who have made it more crowded than you remembered! You have been our inspiration to go backpacking and dip our toes into backcountry camping, which has been an absolutely amazing experience. It was really fun to hike Dolly Sods and recall landmarks that we saw on your older DS video, then watch this and see you hike pretty much the exact same trail we did! Thanks as always for the amazing content and for being a big reason why the three of us are enjoying the great outdoors in a brand new way :)
I love the way you fellas love WV! Thank you for taking us into the back country of our mountain home. I’d recommend looking to the Cooper’s Rock/Cheat Lake area, north to Ohiopyle PA. Also look into the Hacker Valley/ Holly River state park area.
Use a squeeze bottle for the dog. You can just let them drink off of the pop top. Works great after I had the same problem. Just hold it head level and tilt it.
Love the Sods. I see you guys are unashamed of carrying your entire gear closet. I need to hike with you because I think I could slip a California King and a couple of pizzas in your gear without you noticing. Keep up the good work.
Dolly sods is my favorite place on the earth and this video does it justice. Also next time, the unmarked trail you decided not to take is beautiful and leads back to beaver dam trail head eventually
You guys have sold me on dolly sods. Gonna head out there hopefully next month. This place reminds me of some of the areas in the shawangunks in the hudson valley of upstate ny, which is my favorite place (and basically 10 miles from where I live). I believe these two places are connected on the same ridgeline that extends from here all the way down to the blue ridge mtns.
It’s a beautiful place, but they need to start requiring wag bags up around the bear rocks area. I packed out lots of trash. What do folks not understand about LNT?
I just wanna say thank you guys for all you do. We’ve been watching for a few years, and me and my gf at the time (we’re married now!) went to dolly sods 2 years ago in September thanks in part to your vids. we went back in September last year but we decided to not go back this year due to the pandemic so thank you so so much for giving me the experience still! You guys took a lot of the same trails we did and in the same season. I had brought the ring with me thinking I was going to propose to her there and you guys passed a section where I was really going back in forth with it in my head where to do it and you guys brought back that rush to me! Haha I just wanna say thank you so much You guys completely captured the beauty of this place and it was such a blast to watch.
I was at Dolly Sods this same weekend! I was lucky enough to snag the spot right on the creek my first night (where you all camped the second night) and it was incredible! Cowboy camping under the milky way was wild.
I did that same route this last Labor Day weekend too. Think I fell in the same mud pit as Bryan. Dobbin Grade trail really was the worst of an otherwise amazing hike.
Wait... I was in the same area with AA at the same time in West Virginia and is didn't rain?! How is this possible 🤣 Great stuff as always guys. It's great to see y'all together again
Man right at 50:08 I felt the same relief you guys did finding that stream and campsite after crossing that dry dry bald late in the day earlier in 2020. Absolutely most scenic campsite I've ever been at,
I was at the trailhead you guys left due to parking issues a few weeks later, after you were there. Everyone was parking overnight there as did I with no issues.
