I saw STP with Scott 4 times, once with Chester, Velvet Revolver twice and Linkin Park once. Both Scott and Chester were unbelievably talented. They are both missed. STP was/is one of my favorite bands.

I was trying to think of the right way to express the same thing, but you nailed it here. Well said. They deserved so much better, and STP as a band had so much potential beyond the tragic outcomes.

Sorry, but the right person is dead. Scott WAS STP. Without him, it’s never really been STP. No disrespect to Chester, may he rest in peace. But they should have changed their name. It’s just never gonna be STP with anyone but him. And unfortunately he’s not here, and healthy, to do it. Believe me, that shit is heartbreaking to me. But it’s truly how I feel.
@Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid
@Ariel_thenotsolittlemermaid День назад
@rebeccahopkins9522 There were four people in the band. By saying that Scott was the only thing that made STP what it was, you're disrespecting the other 3 and discrediting their work and contribution. There's a reason it was a band and not a solo project. With 75% of the classic line up intact, they have every right in the world to use the band's name. God, I hate it when people act like the singer is the only important member of the band.

Honest, raw, real. I love Dean, Robert and Eric. I remember seeing Scott for the last time. It was the most disturbing interaction and I’ll never forget it. Dean’s right. Everyone left out Scott’s health and well-being in exchange for the money. Peace & Love.

yeah, relationships don't end, they just change a little bit! haha! i could work with those guys, i bet, - life is short! i could do more , if not better, with three other people half as good as they were, even in 1993, i bet! under the right conditions... which might require some time-travel, that would be fun! haha! but i would likely be the 'dean' of the group, and so, where's my robert, where's my frickin' scott, and eric is just as awesome as chad or any frickin' drummer, just such chemistry, so to speak, see that's why they were so lucky! yes they could've done anything with anyone, but i slightly doubt we'd be knowin' their names today in that case... who knows! small things can make yuge differences! and maybe mandela's still messin' with stuff, who knows what's next! stp might become the young guns, and robert might've been the problem-child , due to one bad relationship, or mean girlfriend, or bar-fight, haha! anything could've happened! if you think about it, it's amazing that we're even here! scott lived his life his way, and set a fine example for brats forevermore, haha! imagine if he'd been a little more sensitive to criticism or peer pressure! there may never have been the last three albums! scott was the man! and worth all that he cost the organisation, and more! the songs are still kickin' it , they'll outlive all of us mortals, if 'mandela' approves, i guess? it's magic! RESPECT, GUYS! and thanks!!

These guys talk like they knew Scott was surrounded by a bunch of vampires. I don’t know if that was the case or not. But, I will say that sometimes addicts get so deep in their addictions, hopelessness, guilt, and suffering that they will continue to self destruct regardless of who they surround themselves with. I watched it first hand with my ex-wife. It didn’t matter how much love and support I gave her, she got so deep that she couldn’t stop and really didn’t want to stop. Much respect to the band for continuing to try to move forward and staying true to themselves.

Or how dare they keep the STP name without him but as I've grown older I completely understand. When I listen to them in interviews you can hear the love for him as well as their pain. They seem like a group of really good friends who just couldn't do anything for him no matter how hard they tried. I just feel bad for them. I bet they'd give anything to have their friend back and have him happy and sober. I can hear a lot of pain when they discuss Chester too. Funny that the guys who fired him were probably the only ones who actually cared about Scott's health.

STP like so many other popular music acts that have had an out of control band member, the Doors specifically come to mind but there have been so many that have found themselves in the unenviable position of having no way to control or assist that person out of their hell bent quest of self destruction so please don't blame them for not trying or caring because there is only so much you can do before that situation becomes untenable. It is a completely selfish act to destroy the lives and careers of your family, friends and collegues and as much as I loved what Scott did with the other members of STP I wont excuse or defend his actions. Thankfully they have had the opportunities to produce other great music with Talk Show, Army of Anyone, Chester and now with Jeff and why shouldn't they because its what they love to do and they are very good at it. pryt86 it really is. Mainly what I have seen throughout my life has been people NOT wanting to try to help themselves. I get that the buzz is the buzz!! Been there and done that. Comes down to having something to LIVE FOR. In the end why waste the chance to live for a bottle or needle or pill or whatever? Weiland was not on top of hos game for many reasons.....dope being top one but it was his people that also failed him. He had a real propensity to skate at the edge of life.....thrill seeker? Not too sure but for sure an individual who enjoyed the edge of things. Often , too often , a genius is surrounded by puppets who cater to any whim. Shame of it is really the fact that Weiland could not see forest for the trees ....and that said puppets didnt value him more than lining their own pockets. Music industry is rife with people and puppets. Always will be, I suspect but we lost a real good talent in Scott Weiland. Dope is a deadly spiral and when people are so wrapped up in its clutches, well, there really doesnt appesr to be much light. As for showing people right way......by not dying , by being able to overcome its evil, to live your life and be happy in your skin, thats what it is. I would think you have done that. Sounds as though you struggled at one time and then won. There is a saying...." Living is the best revenge" well, it doesnt always mean revenge .......it also means to take stock and make change and BE YOU.

Andrew Law yea, the light in this world is almost all but gone. But it's still there, trust me. It's just very dim. It's also good to know there's someone else who knows the truth...... Good talking with you.

Dean was guilty, as Scott, of drug addiction. Problem Scott had Yes people, and people wanted the money. Compound his personal life and childhood pain. Scott wrote most of the lyrics and lead with his voice. Yet, all was drained from him. Scott was the most honest about his flaws. Scott was the most humbled out of all lead singers in Rock history.

your second sentence said most of it. what i would add is, they didn't/don't seem to be too interested in even trying to find someone that can approach coming close to replacing scott as far as doing justice to the force that is STP, from a musical standpoint. take ac/dc, for instance, back in 1980. now, while bon scott (my favorite singer of all time) could never be duplicated vibe-wise, they at least brought in brian johnson, who had a strong enough voice to match the bands talent. chester and jeff? ugh...YAWN....

I can really appreciate the first-hand perspective you 3 paint as your remembered picture. With all due respect, it seems you were trying to be professional and forthcoming in a career you cared so deeply for; Bennington wasn't a great fit. I can't stress enough how much I appreciate you trying, and I am enthralled by your passion. Make no mistake of it: history will remember your time with Weiland, and the song "The Art of Letting Go". This is by no means a diss. You achieved more than most ever even imagine possibly being able to, and then not.

Scott and Chester were a big part of my teenage and adult life, I still miss them like they were some kind of big brothers, may they both rest in peace. Dean is telling the truth about Scott, I love Scott but sometimes he could be an ass and Eric, Dean and Robert own STP as much as Scott did, Scott in the last part of his life surrounded himself with a lot of people that only wanted money from him and they allowed him to take drugs and other things to be able to control him, what happened to Scott and Chester is very sad but the important thing is that his music and his art remained in this world.

They were a well-oiled rock machine and at the top of the heap in 94-95, there has been nothing even close to this high quality of musicianship and writing in the last 25 years, all we consistantly have now is a surplus of crap flooding the airwaves as present-day so called music slips further and further into the rockstar wana be shitter.

It’s sad that Scott took the route he did, and the detrimental effect it had on all of your ability to make meaningful music. Robert refers at 3:25 to Chester’s ‘energy’. Addiction robs you of energy, life force and talent. While I don’t think ‘addiction’ per se was the cause of Chesters demise, I think depression had a lot to do with it. In any case, very sad.

@DavidHutchinson0713

They did. Their new frontman is Jeff Gutt, runner-up of The X-Factor season 3, and before that lead singer of Dry Cell; he was a friend of Chester Bennington as well, likely due to A&R exec Jeff Blue having discovered both Linkin Park and Dry Cell (which was going by a different name at that time). They announced Jeff as the new singer in November 2017, though it seems like the band already had him in mind since at least 2016, since they did a private show with him for family and friends on November that year in an unknown location in California, with the one song known being performed, Pruno, also guesting Chester (it was the very last time he'd perform a song with STP before his own death in July 2017), as confirmed in an interview with Jeff. STP have released two albums with Jeff: a second self-titled album in 2018 (dedicated to both Scott and Chester), and Perdida in 2020.

Its do to a weakness Scott was on drugs, it sustained him if people knew this then they would know tough love dosen't work its the opposite he needs a lot of love to give it up. The future Scott changed the future in his own way. Stone Temple Pilots made Scotts future change possible.

so they tried to help scott, well, i guess they did well enough to get the frickin' record done, which was probably harder than we can understand...was scott slippin', was he slip-slidin' away, well he was the front-man, he was the frickin' goose that laid the golden eggs,so to speak, like stingo, just as much, if not more than the other guys, -- they were lucky to have him, and i applaud their efforts, congratulations, boys! by the way, did you ever get a new singer? and i hope he's half as good as scott was on his worst album... some albums took longer than others, i understand... isn't it ironic? the quickest ones, were sometimes the coolest, and most kickass of all! i just know scott was so lucky to have you guys as long as he did, and i know he would do better, if he could go back in time...i'm sure he's sorry for any inconvenience, i wonder, did you guys ever have any disagreements, and did it all work out satisfactorily? i bet you all know bands who will never understand how hard it is to be as great as you, and that must be very peculiar, haha-- you're my favorite, and the wildabouts were alright, but you guys were really not a band that could be replaced, that kind of chemistry is very....unstable, and time-sensitive! timing is everything, and now everything's fracked! but we still have the recordings! hey, how about releasing some of the old things you thought were not good enough, i know thousands of people who would disagree, i bet! ..many of whom would pay good money to hear that! wouldn't you love to listen to some of them tapes in eddie van halen's studio, from thrity of forty years of liesurely work, i bet there's miles of awesomeness in there, man! i think yer just not hungry enough, not poor enough yet to appreciate what ya got, what still remains, man! cheer up! you're loved, almost as much as young scott, haha! and he loves you guys more, no matter what a jerk he was, i guarantee!

To play music can be somewhat selfish. You really have to carve out the time to practice, hone your skills, songs. To be in a band you have to be selfless. It's not just your time anymore. You have to be considerate of the other members, their time, opinions and so on. It's easy to become self absorbed when people put you on a pedestal ,. lose sight of your humility. Personal experience has shown me exactly how much addiction can compound issues and ruin a good thing. Such a shame to see talent wasted and songs left unwritten.

TRUTH!! thank you!! they sued him when he was trying to get clean and still had a chance to do it, but they humiliated him..assholes who never would have blown up if it weren't for Scott's immense talent..they were selfish users just as much as the others, they put THEIR needs before his health when he needed help and tried to put his health first. Scott WAS STP, he's the SOUL the SPARK

I wonder if i am the only one who liked their album with Chester more than their next two albums with new singer. New singer is great singer, and he can achieve something special in some songs also delivering great live perfomances but as far as creating new albums, that magic they had with Scott and even Chester is not there, at least for me.
