So glad to see Sput getting these kind of gigs. If you think about it, Jeff would probably give a "thumbs up" to every drummer that's played on these Toto tours...for the last 10 years 🙂

You are not ruling out Simon, no? He gave Toto 21 years of his live, after all.
@bourgeoisbrats
@bourgeoisbrats Год назад
@@CaptainSpyware Nope, not ruling out Simon or Keith (Carlock). I was mainly pointing out how the members of Toto, seem to be cognizant of how musicians (as opposed to fans) feel about the band. It let's us know that they are still "like us", even after 30-35 years :-)

Years ago as a life long ToTo fan, and I discovered Joe was the son of THE John Williams (I was reading John Williams wiki page) I actually got a pulse and geeked out a little.

I just can't accept the fact these guys aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with all their hits.And let's be honest in the past few years they have put people who just don't belong there.

@@michaelsantone1287 I think Rock hall of fame is a farce at this point. Just like the Oscar’s or whatever other crappy award shows out there. I think eventually they will get there, but Alex Lifeson from Rush said it best in his induction speech at the rock hall of fame: blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah 😂

From the 70s? How bout the 80s and 90s and 2000’s!
@LukasWeiher
@LukasWeiher Год назад
To all the people complaining that this is not Toto: How can there be something more ToTo than this? Toto was always about the music and its quality. It was always about being able to play the recorded stuff to perfection live. This lineup is tighter than the lineups in the 2000s alone simply because Joe by now has become a better and way more consistent singer than he was in the 80s oder than Bobby was in the 2000s. No need to talk about Luke. All the guys that you want back are either dead (Jeff, Mike) werent original members themselves (Simon, Nathan, Lee) or had to step down from touring because of health problems (Bobby, Paich). The only one who could be touring with them again is Steve P., but given the end of the 2018-2019 band and the law suits between the Porcaros and Luke/Paich that is very unlikely. So what did they do? What Toto alsways did. They searched for world class musicians to complete a band to keep the music alive. To the people calling them a tribute band: There are many, many bands who are by now easily outplayed by tribute bands in terms of tightness and quality, so I see no problem here. Toto is one of the few groups that ALWAYS put the main focus on the music instead of anything else, and that is the reason why they managed to shine with every single lineup that ever existed. Surely, if it was somehow possible to get back all the old guys and to go out and play with them anyone would do that, but thats just some silly fantasy

Steve said in a interview that I think is recent, that he wants to put all of the lawsuits behind them, but doesn't enjoy touring. He'll do shows here and there but does not want to tour like Lukather does, he enjoys his own studio.

@@robbyandrews223 Definetely, Luke also pointed out some time ago that there are some guys that just dont want to tour anymore, which is fine.

If you want people to stop saying " it isn't Toto" then stop criticizing Bobby Kimball . He's never said nothing negative about the band or even hateful fans. Yes he had his day in the sun but people don't have to piss on it 24/7 and insist its raining. I won't knock the "current Toto." I'll just put on the old standards (CD/VINYL and enjoy Toto like I've been doing.

These guys are good, but I’m just having a hard time accepting this band as ToTo because Steve Porcaro isn’t with them and Paich isn’t with them. They sound great and everything, but it’s just not the same. I mean, give me the ToTo lineup with Nathaniel East, Simon Phillips, Paich, Luke, Joseph Williams, and Steve Porcaro. I’m not saying that they are not ToTo…it’s just hard to accept a ToTo lineup without Paich and Steve.
@CaptainSpyware

Absolutely agree. Toto right now is a touring vehicle. For the band to be whole again, David Paich, Simon Phillips & Steve Porcaro need to come back. Add Nathan East or Lee Sklar, maybe Tony Spinner (I loved when they had 2 Guitars!) and Greg Philinganes and it's really Toto again. Joseph Williams said himself, for a new album certain people need to come back. David Paich seems to think so too. For now, I'm looking forward to Luke's new solo album which will be releaded in June. Simon contributed the drums as it seems, Dave on keys + a few other Toto people... Would love just THAT for another Toto album. More hard rock oriented, you know?

If we all pined for certain incarnations of bands that have been around for this long instead of being grateful these songs are being played live regardless of the cats then we’d all be stuck at home without any live shows to watch - it’s that simple
@CaptainSpyware
@CaptainSpyware Год назад
@@jeffschamel3756 You have a valid point there. Of course it's great that Luke & Joe go out with the new band, play the music, make the fans happy and earn some money. I saw them live last year, the sound, the magic is still there. I'm just saying that it's very similar to the situation at the end of Falling in Between - back then, only Luke, Simon and Bobby were left, and Bobby couldn't sing anymore. Is Foreigner still really Foreigner with Mick Jones being the only original Guy left who's now only playing live from time to time? No. At some point you have to decide if a band's identity is still there or if you have to earn money. With Toto, the latter is currently the case. Of course they also do it for the fans. But if there is the chance to get the old crew back with 5 core members instead of 2, any band would go for it.

I mean it's just like sports when your favorite player leaves or retires the team is still there but the players change. That's how I see TOTO but they still have Luke and Joe.

David is busy writing Toto’s and his own Music home as well a managing a Portion of the Bands Business. He say’s he will play 3-4 times a year. I agree the band sounds just OK to me. Toto always had the best players available. When one of the original members was away they had on Bass Nathan East / Lee Sklar- Synths Greg Phillinganes/Drums Simon Phillips / and other Drummers/ Many Stars on Background Vocals including a long list of AAA folks.
