I still have have a video half edited on my computer, because I made the mistake to not format my card and only record audio to an external record, so half the audio is missing as the card ran out of space😭 So just found the Roland recorder and going to do the same as you and keep it just out of frame and then I have a backup... Thanks for the awesome video Lok
We all hopefully learn from our mistakes! Your honesty will definitely help others who decide to put in a little extra effort to avoid such mistakes in their future recordings. 👏🏾👍🏾🙏🏾
Wrong mic on the Zoom H1. The MSH-6 is an omni microphone. Use a cardioid and add some compression in the H1 to give you some headroom and a wider sound field.
I would have thought the rule to good audio is to always monitor it, or have a dedicated camera man full stop. I guess a second audio recorder makes alot more sense now, especially filming by yourself!
Towards the end, in the part with the microphone on the hotshoe of the camera. Would you connect the microphone cable to the audio recorder Line In (Zoom H5 for instance) then from the audio recorder Line Out to the camera's Microphone Input?
Best way is to set it up as a boom mic just out of frame. This would have been a fantastic thing from Zoom if they #1 Fix the battery DOOR. #2 Fix the battery DOOR. Then add Bluetooth and a more robust APP with 32bit float. This in including the way you do interchangeable capsules would be the ultimate.
UPDATE: It's working now. I was an early viewer - maybe the linked page just needed to propagate? Hi Lok just a fyi, the link to the Zoom F1 is broken?
That's strange, it seems fine to me. If you don't mind can you share what's the device you use that the link don't work, and the country you're located? Because those links takes you to different site depends on your location.
@@TheLokCheung Hi Lok. It's working now. I updated my comment accordingly. A very relevant video, as I did an interview yesterday where my main recorder failed - I probably pressed a wrong button... Thank goodness I had the iPhone Voice Memos app running as a backup recorder.
Surprised you didn't mention floating point audio, where even if you mess up the levels, you should still have a good recording! My problem is that I get the levels wrong, so I am looking for a solution in that department.
It’s definitely very interesting. Before I’ve decided on the F1 I have been thinking of the F2 but as I want one with a mic attached on it like one single unit, rather than having to plug in another mic with 3.5mm jack. Also for that reason I didn’t mention the F2, while other options still usually more on the high end side. May be I should have mentioned the F2 after all, oh well!
