I have saved 1 baby dove almost after hatching 4 days of baby dove..I kept him and feed him 1st time ..after 30 days..his growth was like he can't even walk properly..and yesterday(1/11/2022) he's dead after having breathing issue..im feeling like heartbroken..😭 Nobody can care like a mother does. Dove is very pretty and lovely bird..I love them alot😭❤️
Thanks for this. I've had these Birds around my yard for the last year in Lockdown & feel like they're apart of my family & seeing the process is spot on what took place. Thanks again.
While an amazing video, I definitely needed a warning about the horrible attack... made me sick to my stomach. I have two nestling doves in my orange tree and trying to educate myself as much as possible. I had NO clue scrub jays did that, so now I'm terrified! Oddly enough (now a good thing), I've noticed a lack of them in my yard lately- phew!! Once I know they're fledgling, I'll keep my cats indoors. By the way, I put cat bibs on my girls (Amazon) and they really work! But I won't risk it while the doves are so vulnerable. I wish I could film my babies, but they are beautifully hidden in the tree- crappy nest, but great spot! So excited to have a little family (just got to keep the scrubs away)!
I've got this going on in my garage at the moment. They built a nest on an upper shelf. Two eggs but only one hatched. Chick now 10 days old. Getting ready for the first flight in a few more days. They are such passive and gentle birds.
Mine are just leaving the nest today. The smaller one, I believe to be female, moved to another smaller plant where Momma was sitting but is still snuggled into her....Not ready yet and weather, winds have been crazy different than even on a crazy weathered day. Momma is ❤️
I recently experienced having a bird build its nest in my backyard and it was the most surreal and amazing experience for me as birder/student ornithologist. It feels like a blessing.
As other commenters have noted, the predatory bird was definitely a California Scrub-Jay (Aphelocoma californica), NOT a Western Bluebird (Sialia mexicana). Those species are from completely different bird families. Bluebirds do not engage in any nest-robbing; they’re insectivores (also eating fruits and seeds in the winter).
I had two baby dove at my front door in this spring. One day, I came back home, and I found blood and feathers in my front yard... All doves have gone... I hope the adults and at least one of the baby doves was fine and survived. I wish they will came back to hatch more eggs in coming months.
Thank you I am watching this happen in my backyard and this video was phenomenal!!! Edit: Oh, 🥺😢 but not the ending.... although it is the circle of life
Great job! It seems I have seen a full movie on Dove. story full of Love-romance, forgery, fighting villain, attack', tregedy and finally happy ending.. 🕊️🕊️🥰🥰 A week before a couple of dove laid two eggs in my balcony.. 🕊️🕊️
Beautiful video, I've had the privilege of watching the Variable sunbird, laughing dove and Red billed fire finches(numerous) occasions build nests successfully raise chicks within my yard here in Nairobi Kenya
Very well done documentary! I hated watching the scrub jay kill and eat that baby, but that’s life in the wild. We get gambel’s quail around here. I’ve watched predator birds fly up and grab a baby and just fly away. It’s no wonder the quail lay a dozen eggs at a time. Their babies are tiny.
Did you know? If you put a marble ball in her nest, they will treat it like her own egg and incubating it until the male ready to mating again. If her couple dead the job will took forever. Bqoz this kind of bird dont really know their own eggs and how long it takes to hatch.
Great video. Did the 3rd egg hatch? Did the 3rd bird ever come back? My guess is that the 3rd mama bird lost her partner and was trying to see if her egg might hatch with these birds as she had no other choice. I have no clue and Im just guessing. I'm trying to learn more as I have a nest on my property.
everyday at least 7 pairs of mourning doves come to feast at my front yard. I affectionately call them customers at my free buffet restaurant. I wish more people can experience the love and blessings from these adorable animals. I'm trying to figure out a way to provide them shelter for the cold winter ahead. I know that nature takes care of everything and that birds are incredibly intelligent and adaptable to survive in the winter. But I'm afraid that even nature can't catch up to the velocity of change humans have accelerated toward the destructions of habitat and food sources these animals depend on. So I feel compelled to provide any help I can give them. They are so susceptible to diseases from mites if their nests are not kept clean as these birds are known to not only build haphazard nests but these nests can sometimes get reused by rodents that can seriously jeopardize the chicks. So please use your human ingenuity to accommodate them with safe and sanitary shelters from the elements and diseases.
How long after laying the eggs did the dove parents begin incubating? Did they disappear for awhile and then come back to their nest to incubate or did the process begin right after she laid them? We
@@BrandyD1777 Thank you. We had a pair nesting in our backyard tree that we loved watching. We were able to see the entire process from nest building to laying and incubating, however a crow kept coming by and eventually scared them away from their nest. I always hoped that the parents would come back for their abandoned eggs but they never did. :( It’s been about a month. Think I should remove the nest and eggs?
@@jeffjohns7606 Awwww 💔. Probably should remove them....leave nest because another set of doves might use it....after a few days could have tried to incubate them or take them to a bird preserve which I have one not so far away yet can't protect all. Just remember that is Mother Nature. I am surprised the eggs haven't been pecked & the egg is still full....you might find a little hole and nothing in the egg. Next time you see crows, try to push/scare them away. Maybe another plant or something that hides the Doves and babies more. I am not a bird expert but I definitely think you should remove them....it is only about 14 days and unfortunately they were not kept at right temp. Make the nest empty and sure some new ones will come along 🙏❤️
@@BrandyD1777 Thanks for taking the time to reply. :) I’ll do just that and will keep the empty nest there in hopes that we’ll have the chance to experience it again. We tried to deter the crows using sheets of foil and Mylar balloons, but it seems it wasn’t enough. I was tempted to try my hand at incubating the eggs myself but in hindsight, I’m glad we didn’t as we ended up taking on a 4 day old orphan kitten shortly after. Thanks again for the advice and fingers crossed for next time. ❤️
Beautiful capture. Your captions helped answer the questions I had while watching the video. How on earth did you manage to get these closeups with such quality?
Doves are opportunist nesters, meaning they will take whatever is available. I got video of a pair of Doves trying to take a brand new Robin's nest but the Robins wouldnt let it happen.
Nature, pah! If I'd seen that happening near my house, you'd best believe I'd be out waiting for that jay, just like it was waiting for its chance at the remaining fledgling.
@@janetyamashige9573 I would have to but the sad thing is it happens all the time but if I can help I will. Just about a month ago I was out side and heard the birds going crazy I figured it was a hawk but I was wrong it was two big crows raiding a doves nest way up in a huge big tree in a neighborhoods yard three houses down how do I know it was doves I saw either the mom or dad with a broken wing was trying to catch it when the crow came swooping down and grabbed it liked a hawk poor baby didn’t have a chance. Then later a baby dove was in my yard it was well hidden so I left it alone before I went out and tried to catch but I was keeping an eye on it was making sure the crows where gone. Later went out to catch it but couldn’t. He or she could fly enough to get in a tree but he stayed around my house and I protected him or her as much as I could I don’t think it could eat seed but to my surprise he or she made it and learned from the other doves now he only comes around when he’s hungry but I’m so happy he or she made it. I call him my baby, after all he did spend time with me in my yard everyday. 😊 I wished I could save them all if I could I would
Maybe give the viewer who is captivated by the peaceful magnificence, a heads up that mid documentary there’s a freakin horrible bam .... wasn’t prepped for such an unexpected atrocity, nature yes, but didn’t need to have my heart ripped out unexpectedly.... you’ve got emojis and happy pappy comments, and plenty of time elapsing to go from scene to scene ... Maybe next time build in some time so your viewer may at least look away....... couldn’t even finish the video
Then the neighbor's cat comes into the yard and after killing the bunny, goes after the doves, wiping out the whole family as they were vulnerable while sitting on the nest. This is what happened to my neighbor's doves nesting on their porch. They complained to the owners of the cat and the owners acted like it was perfectly ok and said "that's just nature". No it's NOT "just nature" when an introduced species kills everything in site! HOUSEcats belong in the house, not in the yard!!! I just feel so badly for the little animals that just can't protect themselves from such a creature!
Doves are beautiful. I could never kill one, since to me, they represent the Holy Spirit. It would be blasphemy. Currently, I have family nest in a pot on my outside wall. Hoping to see a couple of chicks from the eggs.
