Sergei, I bought my first "Wild Edibles" book from you about 5 years ago and have since bought them for family and friends. It's Fantastic and so well laid out! I gave one copy to my grand daughter when she was only 10. Several months later, we were walking through the field at her school and I mentioned one of the plants I noticed. Before I could give her the name of the wild edible (Purslane) She gave the name to Me! I've identified many from your book in my area and have loved all of those I could safely harvest and eat! Dandelion, Mallow, Purslane and Pineapple Weed are several of my favorites! Thank you for a great book (and deck of cards) that can literally save someone's life! And... make it fun to explore outside. I Highly Recommend your resources on Wild Edibles to everyone!

One of the biggest things you have to get over when you begin foraging is the conditioning that was drilled into you as a toddler that all weeds and other plants you see every day are poisonous. Excellent video.
@gabrielasofiazarin9183
@gabrielasofiazarin9183 4 года назад
Any weed that is not poisonous over the long term will already be in the shop, available as a product. If you don't see it in the shops, best not to eat it. corporations and businesses make it their business to grow and sell anything they can to earn money, but they don't want to be sued for killing people or doing damage.... although, they still do it, for example the Roundup tragedy. Please think it through, if its not available at the health food shop as a tea or balm or food, it is best not to eat it. I have damage to liver, pancreas, kidneys, gut, eyes, nervous system, from drinking dandelion tea that a friend made while I was living at their cabin in the mountains. they said it was dandelion and we were all drinking it, the dried flower made into tea. After 3 months we were all suffering similar symptoms, but I had it worse and nearly lost movement in my legs. We finally learned that the 'dandelion' was flatweed. It is toxic over time and can kill cattle. This doesn't mean it cannot harm humans, this means it has not been tested on humans because no scientist would feed humans anything that can kill a larger mammal as it would make sense that it would damage humans even worse. There was cattle on the property where we rented the cabin, we saw cows die about one a month, and the owner said they didn't know what was making them 'lose condition.' I found out on a government website that the plant kills grazing animals after causing nerve damage. They go lame and blind first. The liver damage and nerve damage I got is permanent. I also have to use glasses. Before I drank that tea I had 2020 vision, then suddenly over 3 months I lost a lot of my sight. That is not from ageing, that was a sudden loss of vision. I also felt pain behind my eyes, had headaches, felt exhausted and had painful inflammation of all my joints. Just saying.

Teresa Gabriela Of course, everything in nature that we should eat is certainly not in a store. And many things that are sold in a store we should not eat if we are to be healthy. I’ve been a hygienic nutritional consultant, herbalist and naturopathic practitioner for around 49 years. I also owned a health food store for over twenty-three years and to this day provide edible wild presentations.

Thank you for telling about your history w/foraging. I often wonder as I’m watching other videos on this topic what makes these people absolutely 100% sure that they know what they are talking about. I’ve been studying herbs for over 30 years now and I do not consider myself someone who is 100% confident in identification. I’m interested in purchasing your book for sure! My daughter and I watched a movie, "How to Eat Fried Worms" together when she was a kid. Following the movie, we took the challenge together and harvested our own worms from her flower garden. I sautéed them in garlic and butter, and we had our servings. Not bad, in a pinch, but I prefer sautéed mushrooms. We did get a HUGE KICK out of the experience though. I'd recommend having a go at it, for the experience.

Scots people have been eating Sourock (various kinds of wild sorrel from the family Oxalis) for millennia & we're not dead yet. There's a big difference between eating something that contains a particular ingredient as part of a healthy varied diet & chowing down on a big bowl of toxicity.

I hope it's OK with you that I just take my time and shuffle while YOU hop. ;) I'm still able to do organic gardening ~ in washer and dryer tubs on which I can lean. Works very well although I did take a BAD fall 8 days ago. Unfortunately, at my "tender" age, I don't do well at bouncing back. See you in your back yard as soon as I get a BIG drink of water as it's 100 here. Thanks for giving me the time needed to get there. I got the joke about the clovers. But it would not be 25% more. It would be 33% more nutritious. One leaf from a three leaf clover is 33% of the leaf. So a four-leaf clover has one extra leaf. One leaf from the three leaf clover is one third of the plant. By adding one extra leaf it would be 33% more nutritious

thank you so much for mentioning that clover is related to peas, and is therefore in the legume family. I'm allergic to legumes. I ate some wild clover this week and had been trying to figure out what in the world set off my allergies! Now I know.

I always cook that with ramen noodles or add it to any beans will do... Always cook it with garlic with tomatoes---yummy. Actually, majority of unknown plants growing in any place specially in the US are edible... You just need to cook it good. I even cook those edible foods with beef or any choice of meat. Basic Asian food like mongo beans it taste good, or cook it with coconut milk, you can use ginger or sea food or any meat.... But, mostly I just cook it with ramen noodles or pancit.... All those edible foods you have, I cooked it exactly the same way like always.... We eat even the roots, nothing go to waste. It offers a lot of health benefits....

Very good if you just throw out the ramen noodles! 😉😁 As always, I wish you well. ... I guess I'm just so over ramen noodles since I've been watching them destroy the life of someone I love who depends on then cuz they're cheap, quick and easy. Only cheap before you start paying for the health damage. 😥
