This video is a tour of gas stations either home built or real moved onto private property. This video is made possible by all who have contributed to it. Enjoy, Rob
Thank you for this video! My wife and I have a large farm in NC and I am building a big garage in an area behind the back yard (wife does not want to see it!) and one corner I am building an exact union 76 gas station from the 70’s. I have original construction plans and material specifications from 1974 that I amusing. I already have 3 gas pumps (restoring those right now), 8’ diameter orange 76 gas globe that has been restored, all kinds of outside signs, 76 credit card machine, lots of stuff sold inside, 76 car parts, 76 car manuals, etc. My plan is to have the 76 store look real, but have the curved service desk be a bar with stools. I have the chrome “Unocal 76” letters that was on the wall to the entrance of their world headquarters at the Union Oil Center in LA to be on the wall in my store. I even have business cards for a fake business!
I am so proud to be associated with this community of nostalgia and love for history. Planning a Mobil Service Station with three bays in the years to come God willing. Love these clips.
(This is Tom, not Sandra.) What a great video!!! Thanks for posting these gas station collections!! I hope, one day, that all of these old gas station-type businesses will make a huge come-back. (Gone are those days, l'm afraid). SO, SO SAD!!! Thanks for posting this fantastic video of these old gas stations!!!
While I liked all of these backyard gas stations, the best by far is Steve's Mobilgas station in Washington @10:30. Steve's collection of signs is beyond amazing, and worth a fortune.
This came out at a perfect time cause i just got off work so i got time to put up my feet and watch my favorite RU-vidr. So many outstanding artifacts from gas stations of the past, thank you for sharing this video with us, and for sharing our backyard stations Rob.
Well, the Outsider's DX station isn't a backyard venue, but if y'all want to come and visit it is open every day from Sunrise to Sunset. We have been trying to restore this movie set and have gotten a lot done from what little donations we have been given. Come to Sperry and visit sometime and sign the guest book.
Rob you should re release this one. Public television is waiting for this episode. Seriously this is kind of stuff this guy cannot remember the name of this show.. it was syndicated across the other PBS stations. When PBS worth watching sometimes. Okay I'm being serious and my comment is a compliment. Even though PBS isn't something I would normally suggest. Well you have been pumping these episodes out for a while! Okay I just had to let little bit of humor in. Ding-ding Ethel if she's working. My grandfather always found great humor in that. Maybe we could do a comparison contrast. What was then and what is now like buc-ee's. I-35 one day on a long trip coming back from Oklahoma you know that interstate Greg right on up to Minneapolis-Saint Paul. A lot of things to see on that road. One thing comes to mind is this town hall St Joseph Missouri. Jesse James has a strong connection there. Not much do a petrol but back then it was all horsepower. Safe trip.
Thank you for the nice compliment! How would I re-release it? What would happen? This is a video that someone asked me why would you do this? I mentioned that other people want to see backyard stations. This video became popular but not as popular as I thought. Maybe because I did not have as much of a following then.
if i won the lottery i would do this kind of thing allso i would do a western town where people would come change in to cowboy duds hope on a stage cortch be atacked by apachis and all the rest of it.
