It's interesting to see just how many different things those old mechanical sirens have inside them in order to operate. Have to wonder what's inside the box of modern electronic sirens by comparison. And that rotator is a lot louder than I'd imagine they'd be. Same for the solenoids. Guess they didn't care to make it quieter because you can't hear it over the actual siren.
An interesting video, but I have no idea what it's for, why it's there, nor what the electrical stuff in the boxes do. A bit of commentary or explanation would be good. Us Brits seldom have sirens in our back gardens. I bet your neighbours just love you! :-)
This is a siren collector who has an air raid/bomb/tornado siren purchased and set up in their backyard. Proper clearance is needed with local authorities and fire dept. to sound it. They can be heard for several miles.
The boxes are the solenoids only the 1003 variant has them, the signals the 1003 can do is alert, attack, fire, alternate wail (alt wail), and undulating hi lo the solenoids let the Thunderbolt do everything that is past attack the klaxon CS8 which is a British siren also has solenoids that make a damper open and close which is a fire signal or escape signal which is used when someone escaped a mental hospital
Also the solenoids work with something called an RCM3 which is this at 1:38 every time one of those things go in and out that one of the solenoids opening and closing which makes the hi lo sound I hope you find this helpful
@@vertoisful and actually instead of me buying the RCM could you tell me how to if I do buy the thing that makes your Thunderbolt do high low if I buy that could you help me wire it
This is so cool. Eventually I’d love to build a setup like this. Now I don’t remember fully, but since you have a gas powered blower, would that mean you technically have a Federal Thunderbolt 2003A?
@@SouthCarolinaSirens I do not have 240 to it yet. Might be moving to my own place in the next year so it’ll have a totally different set up. I don’t plan on using that radio
Quick question are you going to sound off when there's a tornado warning I would like to see a video of you sound off your siren during a thunderstorm warning
Just take that clip where that generator on the siren goes OOOOO EEEEEEE and the siren on and high pitch it AND THATS THE TUTORIAL HOW TO MAKE SIREN HEA-
