It was a perfectly healthy dish before you ruined it by adding all them damn vegetables. Studies show that things which grow in the Earth are highly carcinogenic when consumed by fat people .
the reason chef john is like one of the only youtube channel i still actively watch is because he doesn’t do clickbait or change his style with the times. He’s a classic and in these trying times, he’s the rock we all need! Thanks Chef John!
You know, the Mexican place down the road from me does a Mexican hot dog - a hot dog like this, topped with pico de gallo, avacado, crema, and cilantro. Pretty good for the summer!
Mike the Great: oh yeah! I'm in Baja Mexico now, originally from Minnesota, and some of the street food is amazing! Not so much in the last few months but looking forward to making these dogs. And potato salad!
When I was a kid, my parent's diner served a Swanky Frank - a hot dog split down the middle, stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon and then deep fried!! This recipe brings back good memories, thanks Chef John!
My husband just watched this. He never watches youboob’s. Not ever. He’s now planning a Bacon Wrapped Double Dog Independence Day grill. I knew he’d like this. This is his Dream Date! LOL Thanks for being our 4th of July Double Dog Guy, Chef! Enjoy your4th, too.
Ive been watchiing your videos for about 10 years..... I'm in love you still being the same person and creating the same MASTERPIECE content as i remember.... THANK YOU :)
I try to watch Chef John's recipes after my meals but it doesn't help. I always feel as if I haven't eaten anything for days while watching all of those delicious meals.
Just found this channel, and on top of finding some unbelievably delicious looking recopies that I am going to have to try for myself, I really enjoy the dad-style humor. Now I'm gonna have to do some binge watching! Subbed.
"You are the Bettie Page of your hotdog binding stage..." I see what you did there, you sly, wordschef. A little extra zing! And these double dogs are definitely on my 4th of July menu.🌭🥓🌭🥓
"the latest cutting-edge Bacon Binding Technology" (BBT)... Looks delicious. Also, as a former Chicagoan I endorse these topping choices, particularly the absence of ketchup
This is great! I was just on the phone with my mom yesterday, talking about recipes of hers from when I was a child (70's early 80's). She reminded me of a similar recipe, but she'd split one dog in half and add cheese to the center. Then, fold back over and wrap it with bacon.
I love these, I cooked them to about 3/4 done , then I took them to the grill to finish them up and brushed BBQ sauce on. We then served them with coleslaw as slaw dogs.
In Mexico this is how hot dogs are prepared. Wrap the hot dog in bacon, cook it. Place fresh crema on warm hot dog bun, place hot dog and top with chopped onion and tomato. Ketchup and mustard are optional. Delicious!
love you chef jon. the family questions why i dont just always cook easy (boring) food and instead follow alot of your recipes but i notice they also never complain once the plates have been cleaned up.
I’m surprised Chef John didn’t make any double dog dare jokes, like “I double dog dare you to make this bacon wrapped double dog”, or something along those lines.
Optional: Cut both hotdogs lengthwise, but not all the way through. Coat the insides with mustard, hot sauce and grated cheese, then fit those together. Bacon wrap those cuddling dogs and proceed as shown.
I just did this tonight. The bacon wrapped dogs started in the smoker, about 20 minutes at 275. Then I moved them to direct heat on my grill to crisp up the bacon a bit. The result was glorious, and the whole family raved about it. 😊
oh Chef John you cook some of the greatest, most appealing food I have ever seen. And for once I can actually cook this one since I have hot dogs and bacon
4:50 as a Brit, I find the idea of a Hot Dog in a sausage roll to be sausage inception of a sort that could only be bettered by including Currywurst sauce.
Yum! I'll have to try this. Friday night is sandwich night. Tonight I'm making Rueben sandwiches with potato salad. But, I can put these on the menu for next week.
looks yum Skipper. Ive made these for years. I spiral the dog slightly first, so the dog has a better chance to cook through out and plump when its cooked. I'd ditch some of the breading too on the top portion of the bun, so the hot dog can nestle in and snuggle that bacon dog nicely. Happy 4th from Washington State 🥁
Ok...I tried this and they were so easy and SOOOO delicious! Had one extra double dog all cooked up so I wierded my family out but replacing the mustard and relishes with horseradish and peanut butter. The sweet melty good of warmed peanut butter with smokey bacon/dog and tang of horseradish!!!! It may sound weird but I’m telling you it was a mouth party!!!! Thanks for helping me take dogs to another level!!
A few hours ago, I watched Chef John's roasted onion spread vid. He ate it with salmon, and he opined at the end, 'this should be a hot dog." Find that video and use it with the Double-Dog; I dare ya!
I’ve been eating bacon wrapped dogs for 50+ years. I broil or bbq mine. Put them in a bun, throw some cheese on top and broil til its melted. Great stuff.
My food wish is for you to make the Sonoran dog. Most popular in Tucson. Bacon wrapped dog with all types of Mexican relishes in a soft warm sweet bun. Its amazing.
What's unhealthy about this exactly? It's been proven saturated fat is important for human health. The cheap bread could be a problem - use quality hot dogs, make a nice homemade brioche bun if you're worried or just don't eat cheap bread every day... Serve with a side salad, you could do far worse.
Awesome video. Can you bake these low and slow in the oven? I usually bake my bacon for 17 minutes at 400 degrees in a convection oven. The bacon is thick cut so time and temp are different.
Justin Oliver I’ve been trying to break my mom of this habit for years. I have at least convinced her to stop buying “uncurled bacon” and not cooking it in the microwave. Baby steps lol.
