Kid, i know that area well and i am aware of the sketchy street people that hang around the 7-11 store and the ongoing theft there, the terminal ave, 7-11 was forced to close last year from street people picking the place clean, also glad you found out about (college heights) old name ( Harewood ) 🐇but back the 1980s and 90s it had its sketchy characters back them too, and some referred to the area as ( scare-wood ), which would better suit the area now as the crime back then was no where near as bad as it is today....
I’ve never toted myself as an expert. I share my own relocation experience and the knowledge I have hoping to help others who are in the position I was in. Thanks for watching :)
I lived on Vancouver Island my entire life , Nanaimo used to be a beautiful city with lots of space and was able to travel from South Gate to woodgrove in 10 mins via the new island highway . Ever since covid, Vancouver Island has had our way life completely destroyed with traffic , housing speculation, big city people, ETC .
I dont agree with any lame comments. All communities are what u make them. Homelessness drugs etc. Are everywhere. U just see it near our attractive town more than others. People are friendly salt of the earth work hard types. So much pretention goes into where one lives. Just live be kind and stay on your own side of street. Mind your own business. And if u can do something to help your community do it. And stop complaining. And darn well have gratitude if u have a bike to steal!!
Growing up in Toronto and feeling free to walk anywhere there at any time of the day or night and feel ok about it, I arrived in Nanaimo off the ferry at like midnight, and I was totally freaked out and did not feel safe at all.... lol
Thanks for sharing and I think everyone's experience is valid. I wouldn't want to walk around the ferry at midnight by myself either! I'm surprised you felt that safe in Toronto as my experience there was much different!
Hi, i am so sorry to bother, but i got confused about the kast point because i thi k you were naming areas where is not walking friendly, but would like to ask, what would be considered a walking friendly area? Like walking distances to groceries and college?? Thank you in advance 😁
Hi! Yes you're right I didn't really give any options for walking-friendly neighbourhoods besides downtown did I? Some areas of North Nanaimo are great for being close to shopping, restaurants and beaches. Feel free to reach out to me via email ritafraserrealty@gmail.com if you want to discuss some options!
Depends on where you want to walk to, like she said. I am a senior and have no interest in being close to VIU. I am interested in being on a bus route in case I want to ditch my car some day. I live in the Dover area and it's walkable to the mall, several grocers, quite a few parks and sports fields, the library, banks.........The only downside are the homeless are hanging around any Tim Horton's they can find for the bathrooms.
Just because we have bad cops who only want to stomp on everyones rights.Get some real policemen and women who know the laws and have some respect for the Public.
Just imagine growing up there. I left as soon as I could but later returned for a while and really liked the vibe in Old Town, not to mention the restaurants and coffee
