FYI not every elementary school has that early of a dismissal. Aspengrove School lets out at 315 which, I agree, is a much better time for most families.
Overpasses were asked for when building the new highway, but the money wasn't available. The cost will now be 10 times the cost. Note, my info on overpasses came from an engineer who worked on the highway.
Not many. Decent place to live if you remote-work from Vancouver, though, and only go over periodically. Immigration; it's Canada. Housing is super expensive, but much less than Vancouver.

Stop it! We have enough people moving to Nanaimo, driving prices up and up. Stay where you are and tough it out. I know this is one of the nicer places on the planet, but...what about the Nanaimonians? We have to pay more and more for EVERYTHING. Continously for the last 20 years. Insanity. That is it. I am raising my prices. So there...
the new highway sucks when you compare it to actual functional transportation system, but if you compare it to the old Island Highway that it was to replace it is a gleaming bastion of efficiency. seriously the old highway was beyond terrible. I used to think seeing as no one really lives on the island it was a waste of money to put in that highway that 99% of the citizens will never drive on, but then they built the sea to sky to whistler. a highway that goes pretty much no where. so again comparatively Island Highway wins
