Some buddies and I have been looking to purchase a few of these for hunting and camping. This video will make all of us want to purchase one for sure. Two of us want the M1009 and another wants the M1008. We have been talking about it for a couple of weeks and have been looking. Thanks for the great video. I may try to pick your brain some more in the future. Marshall
I made the winch mount, it's just 4x6 square tubing mounted to the frame d-ring mounts (used for lifting the CUCV). The winch is a Warn 9.5ti. Good luck
Awesome truck brother, I plan on getting an 85 M1009 CUCV when I get my enlistment bonus. I've been wanting one since I was a kid. Perfect bug out truck!
@4wheelers10 I thought about putting the banks turbo on it, but most people tell me that since it's a earlier version of the 6.2L it won't handle the extra horsepower, thanks for the comment. It has aftermarket injectors and a that snorkel acts like a cold air intake so it actually makes pretty good power.
Awesome m1009! Do you still have this truck? Would love to see some new videos or updates on it. 👍🇺🇸 I just edited this comment. I saw where you said you sold it but really nice videos while you had it. Good luck in your ventures 👍
The paint has been redone, however to original specs. about 6 years ago. and the gas mileage about 12-15 MPG but i don't really look that much, it is used for off road and i am more concerned about the terrain than the milage. it is not a daily driver, and it is heavily loaded and more than 35 years old, what do you expect?
First off, GREAT Looking Truck!! I have been looking at these for a while now, would love to get either a 1008, 1009, or my all time fav to get would be the 1010 ambulance. Still trying to figure out what makes these different than the civilain models? Can you help me?
Nice of you to comment apacheskull however i never intended comparing my blazer to anyone elses. I have been in many military shows and it was their disceiption of it, not mine. Relax!
well as long as all the glow plugs are working, pretty good! i used to live in Edmonton and know just how cold things can get. with the combination of the diesel gas, the age of the truck and the weak 24volt starters on these trucks... well good luck!
love those trucks I have had a chance to buy one I wanted it but the closest place that sells diesel around me is a meijer about 20 minutes away and I thought that might be an annoyance
I have always wanted one of these, had lots of jimmys and blazers but want one of these. Nice truck. Quick question what did GM put in these for axles?
beautiful truck man, is the 6.2 relible ? i have plans to put that motor in my range rover. i spoke to some hummer guys with 6.2 they all say its a very good motor. my truck has GEP 6.5 turbo
no this engine is very reliable the way it is, i was told that they didn't cylinder walls are not thick enough for the turbo, that happened in the later years.
Thank you for all the great idea's. I just got an '86 in July,, with 42k. I am looking to keep it mostly stock or invisible mods, except maybe a soft top. The only thing I have done is remove the back radio shelf so I can move the seats for my two chocolate labs to have more room and used my brothers marines & army reserve camo's for seat covers, it's hot here in N.Cal, when I wear skirts (i am a girl) legs stick otherwise. did you put AC in yours? i may have missed that in the vid. ~E
@GeistMythos the military rating is just a rating, not actual top speed. plus he installed larger tires so (unless he lowered the ring and pinion ratio) that would increase the top speed as well
@speelburg13 Yea turbo is not too hard to install on these definitely affordable as well, however with the older diesels you also need to reinforce the connecting rods cause adding a turbo to an older diesel not able to handle the extra torque and RPM will cause them to snap. I wanted to add one to mine, however this is the deterring factor i ran into.
@tpvalley Yea, it is pretty loud when your bombing down the road at 60mph with the windows open, (it's a nice break on the ears) plus i can pipe-in my music. You hook up a solar hydrogen cell first, then let me know how you like it. Think i'll stick with what i know. Was thinking of installing a jet engine?
very nice, do you happen to know the mpg for this vehicle? and did you touch up the paint or is that original? im looking to buy a 84 m1009 and im researching every thing before i dish out all my money hahaha. thanks
@TheIndianaKidd Not sure of the weight I've pulled but it has a matching trailer it think it's a 1/2 ton A101 and will easily pull that with a loaded full size Quad in it. Up all the hills in Arizona.
badass cucv! ive been on that ck trail with a stok 88 ifs chevy long bed(daily driver) and its tough. i havent been since i got a brandnew dmax and i want to get a cucv so bad. jeeps are the best but everybody has one on the off road trails. im thinkin about gettin a cucv this year. any advice?
I bought my recently, and at the light a guy stopped right next to me and he screamed, I’ll give you 16K for the truck and trailer!! I smiled and kept on driving 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
I like your CUCV Blazer! I have one myself and love it. Mine has 96000 original miles and the only things I have replaced are the fuel pump and injector pump. The blazer rocks off road and I wouldn't trade it for anything! Where did you find all of your radios and the solar panel? I would be interested in adding that to mine as well! NIce K5!!
Did you keep the 6.2L Diesel or swap it out? If you kept it how did you improve the top speed of it or does it have a higher top speed than the military rating of 55MPH?
So you fabricated the snorkel? The entire vehicle is awesome, you did a tremendous job. I'm keeping your video tabbed to get ideas for my own CUCV. I drove one throughout Saudi/Kuwait and up to Basra in 1991 and medically retired after 27 years. I love my new ugly truck.
Im not sure about the m1009 but i have a m1008 and a banks sidewinder turbo. So just saying if your interested in getting a little more ponys out of your 6.2 the sidewinder is awesome.
@carcedcucv Bad@ss truck, I have an 85 m1009. It was an airforce truck so is painted white. I like the Solar panels you've added, that's my next mod. (really all your mods are legit). I also have a 6" lift no mil radio or antennas tho. Does the electrolysis hydrogen generator show any difference in performance?
what gears do you have? also, what speed do they allow you to go with the 36's? sick CUCV btw, I have watched your vids at least a dozen times each one.
@Mississippi1313 wow....my apoligies, i have never heard of being able to get the 6.2 in the K5......i also didnt know you could get the T400 in the 80's models.......around here IF there are any civilian K5's with the 6.2 they must not be for sale cause ive been looking for years for just the right blazer to make my camper and the number 1 truck comes with the 350/350 (or 700r4) and the 208 transfer case with the ten bolts at both ends
Yes! If you are not worried about big power then yes, its a heavy engine, have you thought about a Mercedes diesel? When my engine gives up, I will replace it with a duramax engine. Good luck.
Glow plugs? No I switched them out with the AC 60's without an issue, took them out one and at time converted the pugs to take the bigger size and did it for preventative maintenance, fires up cold better than my F-250.
Welcome to the Chevy world! This is a nice entry level blazer, I wouldn't designate it a true bad ass yet. 6.2's,np208's,Corporates, is far from bad-ass, I didn't even see a roll cage. Heck, a stock 70's blazer with a small block 350/sm465/205 combo/ dana44/12bolt/ with a rear roll bar is more of a "bad ass".
I would really like to know more about your radios. I have recently acquired my ham license. what radio's, antennas & such info will be appreciated, thanks.
@speelburg13 someone mentioned hydrogen cells powered off engine electrics to save fuel which doesnt work as the energy needed to split water is more than can be gained from the hydrogen produced soI suggested a solar cell.
I like how you say "I layed it on its side and it had no damage, i just put it back on its wheels and it ran, no damage what so ever... except for that hole that got punched through the door noooo damage." lolol
do you wanna sell it???.....j/k LOL nice rig, whats your favorite wheeling area; i go out around box canyon alot and the coke ovens would have to be my favorite area in az.
@carcedcucv I mean one of those simple water cells with simple + and - from solar cell, use hydrogen as an extra power source by running it into engine, it makes diesels run quite well but dont believe anyone that tells u that u can generate hydrogen from engine electrics and save fuel.
@carcedcucv Well of course it makes sense if you contextualize it with an imminent apocalypse... Honestly wish my CUCV was so nice:) Minus some dorky military stuff.
