Coming back to load up for the day. Had one lane of ramp open and a SUV at the top still getting ready the entire time we came up to ramp. So we committed to the lane and then they wanted us to move to put their jet ski in... I told them they could back down and put in even with my boat there as there was room. They claimed they had to wait on another boat to load up the same way (which we never seen another boat as we approached the ramp). Regardless they were not ready to put in before us, during us load, and even after we pulled out of the ramp. Please comment who had the bad etiquette.
Constructive criticism welcome. If you comment please watch entire video and make sure you read all the other comments to stop asking repeated questions. Confirm to RU-vid community policies. No cursing, hate speech, or degrading or your comment will be removed. Thanks everyone.

It's a great change of pace to read so many comments supporting the correct way to load (and launch). You drop off the driver, and back away from the ramp until your trailer is in the water. Docking in a way that blocks others from using the ramp demonstrates a complete lack of etiquette. Thankfully, this almost never happens where I live, as there are plenty of other boaters who will cheerfully inform you of the "error of your way"😮 Unless you're solo, tying to a launch ramp dock is a rookie move, regardless of the circumstances. And using a launch ramp for kayaks, SUP's, canoes and inflatables is also poor etiquette - find a beach!
@Baitmakerz

There isn’t a beach. Unless you drop off at the small dock you’re tying up to it to load/unload. Very steep and very rocky banks. But thanks for your input. This is the style I like to see. Constructive, informative, get your view across clearly without resorting to bashing. 👍

Again as said numerous times that was not an option. The jerk is the one claiming they’ve been waiting when the ramp was empty. They took 30 minutes for the two of them to unload a jet ski. I guess you would not have minded waiting for them. I would have backed my jet skis straight down that ramp forcing you to move and wait your turn. You were in the wrong and luckily that guy was patient with you thinking perhaps you were a new boater. Read the comments here, or a simple Google read. Unload the truck driver and leave the courtesy ramp till he has your trailer in the water for pickup. The only way this would be different is if you were driving the boat by yourself and you do not block the lane. *** "The first approach to the ramp area should simply be to drop off the tow vehicle driver and passengers at the dock, idling back out into clear waters to await the arrival of your trailer. Unless the ramp is quiet, don’t be tempted to unload gear; you’ll just slow others from getting into position." Boating is based on simple rules to follow. Etiquette is a relative term, but you used Poor Form. Most states that require a boater education course states that- "When retrieving, do not pull your vessel into a launch lane until the towing vehicle is at the launch ramp. The line is formed by vehicles with trailers, not by vessels in the water."
@Baitmakerz
@Baitmakerz 3 месяца назад
Cannot drop off the other boater. There is literally no where to put a boat at this ramp until you are ready to load/unload. Half the year the small dock is under water. Half the year you can literally park your truck/trailer at the bottom of the ramp to the side. He 100% could have still put in but chose not to. He was not ready to unload, but we were ready to load. The other lane was blocked by trees when we put in. If he was not standing by the ski as we approached we would have waited. He jumped in when we were 20 foot from dock to move. Thanks for your input .

Typically this is a very slow ramp. Maybe average 7 boats per weekend day for the year. So not a real big deal. It's way back in the middle of nowhere. The pontoons seem to have trouble loading here as well. This is a highland reservoir so come winter the waters about 40 foot down. Makes for a very long steep ramp hike. There's usually about 2-3 parking spots at the bottom of the ramp when it's that low. Just a little tid bit about the ramp. Not your typical heavy traffic, pretty steady water elevation ramp.

I see you have posted many reasons why you did what you did. However, it doesn’t change the fact of what boat ramp etiquette is. You also could’ve tied up behind the kayak, knowing he was pulling out, and therefore, then either moved around to the other side when you had your trailer in or waited for him to leave either way, the question of etiquette is you were in the wrong.
@Baitmakerz
@Baitmakerz 3 месяца назад
@@CaptainRobFerris there was debris(logs) on right side ramp it was more narrower. Ski could fit there but not a boat. They seen us coming in for a good 90seconds standing at their trailer. I idled till I was 6 feet from the ramp when they decided they were ready. I was quick to load . They were slow to unload. If they had not been standing by the trailer I would have sat and waited. People also pull to that spot after they pull out to finish their stuff before going home. Winds that day were 22-29mph there was white caps on main lake. This was a protected cove. In my mind why would you go out on a day like that with a jet ski. So obviously my thoughts process makes me think. People also pull right there when they didn’t load correctly in the first place and going to splash it again to try. Also if I knew we wouldn’t have the boat out in under 3 mins I would 100% have waited. The camera takes away the depth in this situation. I offered to let them go in front off to the side but they didn’t want to because they wanted to tie off. I think I made the best choice and in this situation would do the same thing again. Other situations probably not.

Bottom line is you cut in line. Captain Rob is correct. I had a similar situation with a boat last year. I was in the lane and was ready to back in. The game warden wanted to do a boat check. He did and then I proceeded to back up. Another boat came in like you did. The other guy ran to his truck to get get backed in. I continued to back down the ramp. The game warden saw what was happening and had to move the other boat to the other side. Those two guys were clueless. I don’t think they want anything to do with the game warden. I’m kinda surprised you put this on RU-vid since you were rude and give other Bass boat people a bad name. That’s why they think everyone with a bass boat is an Ahole. Among other reasons. If the boat ramp does not have a courtesy dock, and the people launching or retrieving the boat do not have a driver and a boat operator, they should not use that ramp and find a ramp that has a courtesy dock. We were out in 4 mins including talking to them. They were still blocking that ramp when we left. I can’t remember but I think the kayak was still in other ramp before we left because he didn’t drive by us. It’s kind of common for people to pull out and drive the loop back to park there to get their boat tied down and trash out as it’s the only trash can at the ramp. @@DIRTYBIRDYBEATS I know how a boat ramp works, I have a boat and jet ski's both, the boater did nothing wrong. Now if the jet skiers was already looking like they were going to back down than I would have a different opinion of the situation. The boater was coming into the dock while the jet skier was sitting off to the side at the top, boat ramp courtesy goes both ways, in this case the I would have done what the boater did, why should I have to wait out in the water waiting for the jet skier to make a decision. I will stick by my initial assessment.

Just like trail riding in a Jeep. Uphill usually has the right of way. No body at fault but the Ski should have waited without getting bent over it. I would have dropped my driver at the end of the dock to get the truck and let the Ski make a fast launch, hopefully. But you were already at the dock before they were moving their truck, Not like the ramp was super busy, I have seen a lot worse. It took you like just 5 minutes to clear the ramp, It probably took you less time to haul out than for him to put in and clear the dock. That is why haul out should have priority.

It's first come first serve. If he was ready to launch, he would've had the trailer backing up into the water before the boat pulled up to the dock. If I saw a trailer backing down into the water, I would sit and wait till the dock was clear. If the dock is clear, it is first come first serve. As it was, the boat retrieval was very fast and efficient. I've seen many take a lot longer just to line up the trailer.

At fault for what ? If you aren't ready and backing towards the ramp you aren't ready period. One thing I've learned owning a boat for 35 years is that jet skis, kayaks and ski boaters are typically unprepared clowns at the ramp. They think the ramp is for getting ready on and then launching after checking everything.

There are several issues here. First; jet skier is not a boat and the operator is not a boater and should not be using a ramp designed for boats. Second; kayak is not a boat and the operator is a fisherman...also not a boater and knows nothing about proper boat operation or boating etiquette and should not be using a ramp for boats and third; bass boat is being operated by a fisherman who knows nothing about proper boat operation or boating etiquette and should not be allowed to use a ramp designed for people who know and practice proper boating procedures..
@Baitmakerz

I disagree with you on all three actually. A public boat ramp is just that made for any and everything. Pontoon, wakeboat, jet ski, canoe doesn't really matter its public access. There is 3 public ramps on this lake and no matter which one you goto its atleast 30 minute drive. There is no "beachy area" so the ramps have to be used. I'm unsure how you think the boater knows nothing of proper boat operation. But everyone has their opinion. I appreciate yours.
