I think the letter showed the cops that he was remorseful and willing to turn himself in. That and getting shot in the back 8 times while unarmed and dressed as Santa on Christmas Eve in front of the kids probably helped him too

This is probably one of my favorite comedies of all time. I love humor that's pitch black so stuff like this, Death to Smoochy, Super, etc are all right up my alley.

This was John Ritter's last movie before his untimely death due to a burst aortic aneurism that took place on the set of the tv series he was filming (8 Simple Rules). He was a one of a kind comedic talent, who I will forever remember as Jack Tripper (Three's Company).

One of the things I love about this movie is the music. I mean, the Toreador Song from Carmen as Willie is beating up the bully, the Anvil Chorus as Marcus and Willie are pounding away at the mannequin and safe, and Chopin's Nocturne as the cops are shooting Willie in the back. I also love The Kid's dogged persistence in relation to Willie. After Willie loses it and flips the checkerboard, The Kid gives him a blank look and asks, "Want to play again?" That and all the sandwiches.

This is by far my favorite raunchy comedy. The jokes are so dry and rapid fire that your brain is just like WHAT WHAT WHAT and you can’t stop laughing. Everything the Kid says is gold. Every time Marcus unleashes on Willy he drinks himself into a stupor, so yeah, childhood trauma for sure. I’m glad they didn’t do a huge redemption for Willy, I hate it when gross out comedies do that it feels so forced.

My family and I love this movie. 3 or 4 years ago my family destroyed an advent calendar, taped it back together, and filled it full of random things and gave it to me for Christmas. We all laughed pretty hard over the calendar.

This is probably my #1 Christmas movie, but watching your reaction to it is enough this year, I think. As someone who has worked as a Santa one year, I totally get how it could be a living hell doing it year after year. Once was enough. It was a fun thing to do, and a perfect gig for someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas anyway. Hope you'll have a great Christmas and an even better new year!

Enjoyed your reaction!! The rapid fire dialogue is hilarious and John Ritter says as much with facial expression as he does with dialogue. Another dark Christmas comedy I think you'd really like is "The Ref".

Bad Santa is a Christmas classic, a classic comedy, and Billy Bob gives an all time comedic performance.. Bill Murray was actually super close to accepting the role, but he ultimately chose Lost In Translation..

23:26 some times someone being oblivious just hits different and I think this might be my favorite one of all time it just shifted my whole years old list down by one. Questioning the finger prints issue in a public store, in a Mall during the christmas/holiday shopping season so every inch is covered in hundreds or even thousands of prints. The letter was him to the cops saying "hey I have info to set up a guy who was stealing." It bought him good will. Also, th3y could have shot him in the back because he is entering a house where people are and he could hold them hostage

While not a holiday tradition, it'll always have a special place in my heart. Particularly for the creative genre bending they did here. And to your point of the "vignette", one thing I love about this movie is the juxtaposition of character growth (as use to be the case in the '80s and early '90s) with relapses, giving an impressionistic approach to the emotional rollercoaster that is much more common in action/fantasy/sci-fi movies like Star Wars, the Indiana Jones series, Back To The Future, etc.

Maybe the letter fibbed a little, and didn't mention their previous operations. Just that Billy Bob was peer pressured into the situation and then confessed before going along with it. So that would keep him out of jail I think.

I LOVE this movie, but the "pass out shot..." That's another level. Billy Bob, the music and "THE shot." Looks like a camera was strapped to him. I can't count how many times I've rerun it and it's a fav gif.

I for one love it. Absolute hilarity that never gets old. Figured it wasn't for you as you had some odd cuts on funny parts and didn't even laugh at one of the best lines... With movies like this, I think it's best to view it simply as it is. It's not trying to be what some people expect from others of it's caliber. The characters are brutal enough to be endearing, and the jokes are consistent enough to be funny (assuming you enjoy this style of humor). I think it is often written off as a bad film or waste of time, but Billy Bob Thornton does a great job with this character, and that's all it needs, to be worth watching. Appreciate your thoughts, great vid as always, and happy holidays.

It's actually really DARK. I have to be in a certain frame of mind to put it on - Billy-Bob is perfect - he's ALL Doug Stanhope, a total tragic mess. He's a total fuck-up who threw it all away through poor life choices but redemption becomes obtainable by doing the right thing by the poor kid who never stood a chance in the first place.

I'll never forget going to see this in the movie theater. I saw some kids come in with their parents, I giggled. Then after his speech at the bar and vomiting in the alley they got up and shuffled out the door so fast. I fucking love this movie. Having the love interest with Lauren Graham (who I love) was a nice touch. This is pretty much a showing of stereotypical "bad Santas" you think of all rolled into one character. Most of the funny parts were very funny, but the low points were too low. One thing to notice is that some of the music was from the opera "Carmen" like used in "The Bad News Bears". MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR, and all that jazz.

This movie was originally going to be a lot darker. Originally Willie wasn't going to survive the shooting and the last shot would be the kid cleaning his blood off the porch the next day. That one didn't screen test well to put it lightly.

The movie Bad Words is almost identical, only not during Christmas. It's a simple redemption story with childhood trauma. Still an interesting movie. They did come out with Bad Santa 2 in 2016. If you want a really funny raunchy christmas movie though, you should watch The Night Before. It's probably my favorite Christmas movie.

If you love John Ritter I recommend 1992's Noises Off... Especially since you're in to theater. It's one of those forgotten gems that probably wouldn't get views but even if you watch it in your personal time I think you would enjoy it.

The letter showed he was redeemable because he cared for the kid. Also, it's a comedy so I feel as if you judged it based on dramatic movie criteria. Vignettes are perfect for comedies. The point is you cry. The fact the movie had heart was what makes it a modern Christmas classic.
