@@thehandymanexperience226 That's really cool. We're looking for someone like you (we have 22 properties). Are you near the Philly area by any chance? LOL. How does one find someone that does what you do? We only seem to find regular general contractors and then the specialties (plumber, electrical, etc). But we can't seem to find a do-it-all type of property maintenance company or guy
@thehandymanexperience226

I'm not around there lol 😆 but yea I know what your saying it's hard to find people and the people u end up finding are below par. I don't do it all but I do a decent amount lol

Not trying to bust your balls but, electric code now is that outside outlets are to be WR & TR. just trying to help you out. Also the WR cover needs to be “heavy duty”. 👍👍
@thehandymanexperience226
@thehandymanexperience226 Год назад
I'll shall nominate u ball buster lol 😆 yea this reminds me when I was in school getting my electrical license. I remember the city inspector saying that people getting houses built they would hire a electrician to change all there tamper proof outlets to the regular old school ones after inspection cus they didn't like the TP. So that was my mantra and plus I wanted all the stuff I put in to match the rest of the house. But ur right times are changing, people r getting dumber and sticking stuff in outlets. I'm glad u brought this up to me I'll start stocking up on it. Yea I'll start having to stock up on the WR too lol that gfci is gonna be like $40 bucks 😂 but yea it's all a liability and I just needed someone telling me and slapping my hand lol. But u and I both know not every town is up to the current code book.

Get yourself some insulated tools for working stuff hot usually rated 1000V. I prefer the plastic Intermatic in use covers for exterior receptacles, expensive but easy to install. I also install weather resistant WR GFI receptacles; again expensive.
@thehandymanexperience226
@thehandymanexperience226 Год назад
Yea home depot has the 1000 v rated strippers on sale but there so bulky and over kill. To the point where it's going to put me in a bad spot cus I'm not comfortable. But yea I'll have to pick some weather resistant gfci s up

So this is the first GFCI that you can put the line on the load side? The line is always on the bottom with the ground

@thehandymanexperience226
@thehandymanexperience226 Год назад
Lol yea something like that. Even when it's not hot I still treat it like it's hot. I take my time, I have a decent amount of experience with that stuff . I used to do alot of electrical in car washes with like 500 Amp panels. Scary stuff
@mrbill3
@mrbill3 Год назад
Iv'e got a few hopefully helpful comments for you. First the obvious. Get some insulated tools! Second. When working hot, always remove "Hot" wire first, then the neutral then the ground last. Assembly is the reverse. Ground then neutral then hot. You always want to have the ground hooked up as long as possible, so that the device or box etc. is the ground and not you! Third and last. That type of application requires a WR rated GFCI (I always use TR for everything else) and a waterproof in-use type cover. These are designed to be used out in the open and will allow it to have something plugged-in and not get wet during rain or sprinkler use etc. (or at least less likely to). The type that you used is for an exterior covered location such as a porch or carport etc. Sure the WR GFCI and waterproof in-use cover are more expensive, but they are safer for all involved and will reduce your liability. Work safe, work smart and charge accordingly. Also tell people up-front that's what you do and don't be afraid to walk away from a job if they just want someone to do it cheap. You're still going to be cheaper than an electrician for a job like that. I've been in the handyman business for over 20 years and have a good reputation with customers, tradesmen, home inspectors and even building inspectors because they know I'm going to do it the right way. I also love going to work each day!
@thehandymanexperience226
@thehandymanexperience226 Год назад
Yea the Funny thing is, I am a electrician I am licensed in electrical. I wasn't a big fan of Temper proof outlets since my teacher Was a electrical inspector and told me after people got their houses built They sent the electricians over there To change out the temper proof outlets after the inspection to regular outlets Because they don't like them. So I kinda lived by that for awhile. But I see the liability from it now and now I'm going to install them cus people r getting dumber lol. Those in use covers will definitely break with rentals. U and I both know that and will cause more problems because they will rip the whole thing off. I do alot of work for property managers so I have to please them. They install those metal cover maybe not like the one I installed but something for outdoors on every house. I only install in use covers for cystomers when I know they are going to keep something plugged in. Tenants are destructive and I've seen it first hand. But I love your comments and appreciate the info ur giving me. After the vid i got a few comments and WR and TR and realized im in the wrong and cant be doing that.I'm hoping u will hit me and let me know if u have better fixes in the future! Especially since I'm trying to teach people the right way, I don't want to be a butcher.

Nice video. Surprised it’s 14 awg wire especially with a 20 amp. I noticed the wires for 120v circuits in my house built in the 90s are 12 awg. Do you think this is better than most or the standard? That’s with all receptacles being 15 amp except for one in an addition.
@thehandymanexperience226
@thehandymanexperience226 Год назад
Yep back then they had like everything run off of 20 Amp breakers so that's why you see all that 12 guage wire.

if I were you I would wear kneepads all the time instead of squatting or kneeling on my knees. kneepads are severely underrated and underutilised. I wore them all day every day when I framed houses.

adding a ground wire to a box that don't have a ground wire going back to the panel don't do nothing.
