I interned with Kirk his last year managing Mary. He's the real deal. I respect this interview. He rebranded Mary. Kirk deserves his flowers and awards.
The great legendary Kirk Burrows. We see you, and your tremendous contribution to not only the BadBoy story, but to the overall landscape of a great era in hiphop.🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I appreciate this interview as a person who worked for bad boy, and Mary j Blige (MCA records) when Kirk was managing her. I remember going to kirks crib uptown. Yup, I’m a Harlemite till I die. Such a great interview. I remember those days going to the 19th street location. Kirk was always a great dude. I’m getting that book from Kirk and Gene. I remember working on share my world for Mary j > doing marketing at the label. Aw man this interview brings back memories . Thank you Gene for this .
Salute to these two Brothers. Sean Combs needs to give Kirk all he deserves for his contribution to Bad Boy as a Label and its artists. Thank you Big Gene for sharing this with the people. Definitely getting both these brothers books. I pray both these books become top sellers, because you brothers deserve it. Rest in Paradise Dwight Myers & D Ferg & countless others who have gave their contribution to Bad Boy without any recognition. Salute to you Big Gene.
You deserve what you accept.. Apparently Dr Dre always gave his artists great deals, but what you got to remember is Dr Dre probably wasn't giving the same amount of opportunities as Diddy the music industry business Model was give everybody bad deals in the hopes that one of the artists will make hits, to recoup their Money. Unfortunately what diddy was doing was exactly what every other record exec was doing in those days..
I still don’t understand why Puff didn’t let Biggie go to London. He must have got paid to have Biggie attend that party. Very suspicious 🤔 then he has the nerve to say Biggie didn’t want to go to London when actually Biggie didn’t want to go to Cali. smh
I personally think night before at award show was hit. For some reason it didn’t happen. They called puff and made sure he kept them there one more night.Yes I think he knew.
Gene Deal needs to be supported at all costs. The information about the music industry that he has given us, in totality, has been invaluable to those who experienced that era of music. Support this man.
Mr. Burrowes is a proper gentleman indeed. Remember this good sir. He who takes a portion from the righteous shall soon surrender all for their recompense. Dread not Mr. Burrowes , for you shall be compensated accordingly. Brilliant! Cheers mates!!
Shout out to Kirk . This man is truly a dedicated professional , I don't know you personally but you seem to be a very good person . you should fight for your compensation in court that is due to you , Don't let anyone get over on you . I thank you friend for contributing to so many amazing artists and being largely responsible for so many great times . I'm glad you told your story because your 100 , and bad boy has no right to stop you from shining . Peace.
Thanks Mr. Deal for this monumental interview about this very important figure behind the BadBoy Empire. A good friend of mine from Atlanta who formerly worked under the late Andre Harrell's UpTown label , Oscar Clemmons, aka " OvaFlow" spoke about this instrumental figure in the music era. Sensational interview.
When you screw someone badly. You may climb and have great success. But you downfall will be so bad that your enemy will feel sorry for you. It will happen at a time when you are most comfortable. Trust me I know first hand. But you will always have the chance to put things right before your karma gets you, but most are stuck in greed and don’t put it right
Kirk is the definition of a true gentleman. He truly did not go in on "brother I love BBC" like anyone else who has been done wrong by this heathen!!I hope that in his book he gets loose with all the juice!
This interview between Kirk Burrowes & (an attentive) Gene Deal..,. has got to be the pinnacle of my P-Diddy rabbit hole search since the raid.

Wow! What an insightful interview. I knew his face but never heard of his name or realized his tremendous contribution to bad boys or the industry overall. What he accomplished with Mary after being let go proves what he is capable of doing with or without Diddy. The fact that he was fired in Mary’s biggest record ever that he worked for is so cringy. Much respect to him
I only knew about Kirk Burrows, from following Gene Deal videos, and he often mentioned his name. The name Kirk Burrows has a nice hook, to it's sound, and when Gene would say it, I knew he was a great man. So I finally met him, and loved him right away. His mind is so fresh and sharp, I can imagine it was even sharper back then. But I can see he was a key part, of making the hiphop music industry take off like it did. One thing I noticed about the young artist, of the early 90s, was a quality they all had, and respectability of themself and others. Its good Gene and Kirk are making these video documentaries, that way their history will be told, in their own voices, and not someone putting words in their mouth. Actually watching Gene Deals videos, he talked so much about events that happened there, in NY, and it sounded so fascinating that I began watching old footage of NY, and I love watching them. Even as a small child, from the south, and some of my relatives migrated to NY, I have loved NY. Because when they would come to vacation, with us, they were all like movie stars, to ne, and I never wanted them to leave. A couple names Gene brought up was Frank Lucas, and Bumpy Johnson, so of course I had to research them. And those guys were dynamite. So smart. I'm still going through videos on them. I just love those guys. Thank you, Mr. Kirk Burrows, for all you've done, and all you're going to do. It's time for Diddy, to step up to the plate, and make things right, by people, he owe due diligence too. Instead of trying to hold the title of America's most hated. Turn it around, while there is still time.
Kirk had full control of the office...not only managed talent...hired the staff...managed the office....and my man Kebo was the soup and nuts gut making the office run smoothly... I used to do the T Shirts for the tours back then... My man Groovy Lew ...put me on...this is pre Sean John...lol... and as fate would have it...my partner.. ended up bringing Roc A Wear out the dungeon...and into mainstream...on my word Dame tried to make the clothes himself with Spanish lady's in their office...lol...fun times and grateful to learn and know these guys ...
Great interview, this is what everyone in the industry needs to watch! So much knowledge and jewels are being dropped. Big shout out to Kirk💯 and Big shout out to Big Gene💯💯
Crazy... Wiped from the credits?. Im blown away... Kirk literally did it all... And... I wanna mention a name...a lite skinned dude named Slim from Va had the big body vert Benz...copied Puff... and hes the one that brought the sound of Va to Us!!! Missy...Tweet..Timbaland...Pharrel... I remember just before BIG passed everyone being on 19th street.... it was like a car show!! Duck Down Records was a block over on 18th..
Is sad almost everybody who worked with Puffy back in the days was served a raw deal. It's not over at all , " the chicken will definitely come home to roost". I tell y'all.
It's over homie Puff Is middle aged and wealthy Passing wealth to his kids. Here is the reality Checkmate. Just like these white folks are wealthy on our backs and not letting up no time soon.
@@rosedalepark78 But his accumulated wealth shouldn't be at the expense of people who had worked like trojan horses and deserved their due. There's a saying that " Wealth gained by deceit will not endure".
Salute! Uptown! Bring 'em out! Shout out to the Big Homie, Big Gene Deal! Thank you so much for bringing in Kirk Burrowes. This well-spoken, resolute brother has a rare, unique and highly cultured presence. Personally, I would hire him anytime for any project involving business management, recording artists, industry or entertainment. We need more professional personalities of this caliber to mentor our young who aspire to get involved in this genre of the entertainment business. Word! I really appreciate this interview, King! Peace, Love & Blessings! 👑👍
Definitely a well spoken gentleman, definitely can tell he was on the administrative side of the business. And most importantly confirms genes story but gene was always on point. But I definitely feel he is double speaking/fence walking/ industry talking. Gene said name names and he didn’t! What was the conversation between him and Clive Davis about puffy telling him big isn’t going? That should set the alarms off and Clive Davis should have got him out especially if he paying for it! How could he stop what artista wanted especially if biggie knew he was getting paid? If Kirk was told by gene the situation of security and a threat, why wasn’t Kirk pro active other than keep calling puffy?
I been waiting for the whole interview for a min.May Allah bless the both of you Big Unc and brother Kirk 2 solid men🤲🏽🙏🏽Can't wait to read both there book's, I love to read 📚 🙌🏽 there's gonna be some explosive antidotes in those book's!!
Thank you Gene Deal for starting your own platform. Now I have somewhere to go where I can the truth and get the GOATS of hip hop telling their part of story to get the history that we need Now that you have your platform please let the guest speak. Please don’t cut them off or interrupt. Just write your questions down as you go and ask after they got their point across. I hate when the guest is constantly interrupted. Thanks again Deal for this platform
Just remove them empty plates men!... Is there a food table in the room?! I'll take fruits!.. Tables with empty plates are ridiculous today.🤦♀️🙌😂🤣😂😆 I'll go ahead and assume, guess that, they already ate.
I was there at his apt on 5th ave in Harlem 92', a nicest building on the block at the time, his musical taste created whole Bad Boy monster hits, his musical taste came from NYC underground nightclub Paradise Garage DJ Larry Levan! if you wanna go his 80's lol
What I find interesting is that Diddy never responded to any of Gene Deal's podcasts/documentaries nor has been questioned on anything these two men said unless he puts in his disclaimer to not ask him about Gene Deal or Kirk Burrows
Every body got home safe accept for big !! He took a trip some where else … He said the first one to leave LA was puff . Sad ! big got back to NYC in a body bag 2 weeks later .. out every one in that truck biggie was the only one got hit . Smh
AND PUFF Should’ve Been the LAST ONE to LEAVE CA or With Biggie’s body returning to NY!!! May Big Rest in Peace🙏🏽 This STILL pisses me off!!!! Love Records or Label my ASS!!! Very Sad Times when Big and PAC died in NY & Long Island!!
SHOUTS TO GENE AND GREAT SHOUTS TO THE GENIUS" KIRK BURROWES FOR HIS HARDEST WORK IN BUILDING BAD BOY ENT TO WHAT IT IS. DIDDY NEVER BUILT BAD BOY K.B DID AND GIVE HIM HIS CURRENSY YOU OWE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!! WAITING FOR THAT GOLD MINE BOOK K.B , 💘 P.S REMEMBER DIDDY KIRK WAS IN THE CORPORATE BUISNESS WHEN YOU WAS DANCING 🕺.
As an Artist🖊Manager, and someone who adores the late 80's to 90's music🎶era... I truly ENJOYED...and APPRECIATED every minute of this interview. BRAVO👏🏾 gentlemen... BRAVO👏🏾 for top tier conversation!!⭐️💯⭐️
He didn't want BIGGIE to go there....think about it....if BIGGIE went there....did the press..what you think that would've done for Junior Mafia when they leave BAD BOY LABOR......BIGGIE already had press around the world....his record LABOR WOULD be doing it BIG....YOU TALKING ABOUT RECORD SELL.. PUFFY COULDN'T HAVE THAT
sounds like puff was so jealous about Biggies press roll out look and wanted it for himself knowing he had his own record coming out shortly after Big's; it was not in the plan for puff to get that type of look
