Note: Click "Show More" for lyrics. "Day After Day" is a song recorded by the rock/pop band Badfinger for inclusion on their 1971 album, Straight Up.

The song was written and sung by Pete Ham and produced by George Harrison, who plays some of the slide guitar parts of the song along with Ham. The record also features Leon Russell on piano. As the song was unfinished at the time Harrison left the Badfinger album to produce the Concert for Bangladesh, the final mix was done by Todd Rundgren, who took over Straight Up after Harrison's departure.

Released as a single in the U.S. in November 1971 (January 1972 elsewhere), it would become the group's highest charting single there, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. It also peaked at #10 on the UK Singles Chart in January 1972. It remains the band's best-known song, most notably for the slide guitar solos. It went Gold in March 1972, becoming the band's first and only gold single. The single reached #10 on Billboard's Easy Listening survey.

Because of all of the overdubs, Badfinger was hesitant to play this song live for years, since it was impossible for a four-piece group to reproduce the single production. However, the song was included in the setlist for Badfinger's 1974 tour.
Lyrics:
Day After Day (Ham/Evans/Molland)
I remember finding out about you
Every day, my mind is all around you
Looking out from my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember holding you while you sleep
Every day, I feel the tears that you weep
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you
[dual slide guitar solo (Pete Ham and George Harrison)]

Looking out of my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember finding out about you
Every day, my mind is all around you
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you...

They were to be the next Beatles but after five years they were destitute. Ripped off by an unscrupulous manager. Two of them hung themselves and that was the end of one of the best rock groups, “Badfinger.” Yes, we still listen to you in 2020. Fifty years since you left us. Saddest story in rock history.

Badfinger, in 1971, had scheduled a tour of the U.S. before they became really big. They were playing a lot of cowtowns and small colleges all over the country. Around Christmas, their album "Straight Up" was released in the U.S., and overnight they achieved superstar status. To their credit, they honored all of their commitments, and continued their scheduled tour. Two months later, In February of 1972, a friend of mine and I were visiting a couple of girls who were attending a podunk college in a hick town in the middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania. By coincidence, Badfinger was still on that tour and scheduled to play there. We picked up 4 student tix with no problem, and saw them in concert at the college field house!

Such an amazing song .. from a place of sadness, loneliness, and feeling a void, to excitement, waiting, and finally unconditional love. It actually took me a while to really understand the songs meaning, since it certainly is emitted through the sometimes subtle changes in play throughout. At first he is all alone and finds out he is expecting his child and waiting anxiously; in the next verse he reminisces holding his baby (likely daughter) and caring for her, and connecting with her, and alludes to how he longs to see his now older daughter each day, lifting his spirits from the 'gloomy' life he leads and how she has 'become' his life. It certainly makes me reflect on my daughter and the joy she has brought me, and continues to bring me, each and every day. Such a well-written and powerful song, so few words but conveys so much.

Hearing George Harrison's slide guitar makes me smile & happy about life. Bittersweet because hes not around to share in his art he left behind. Its peope like him, Bowie, & the Beatles as a whole that remind me that music isnt just a career to make money but its a cultural way of life, healing, & expressing the light of love we all should be practicing w/ each other in some healthy form. It adds more color to the limited color spectrum we abide within...it gives life a soundtrack & advances our ability to communicate w/ each other even across time. A song you make today might be the reason somebody decides to live & do right by God in the distant tomorrow. Crazy how good pleasant sounds can make even a gloomy person feel. Music is an essential part of fully functional human life; dont let the modern mainstream trash ruin that for the generations to come. Make music great again...all my new music is always old music I never knew existed. Dont let basic people make you not believe in your sincere well thought out art. Believe in your art & dont forget to share it w/ the world...the people who matter will likely find it in time & those who dont who love you will wish they had.

Such an exquisitely beautiful song. Can't remember a time in my 53 years when this song was not beloved by me and deep in my heart. God bless such beautiful artists, who are conduits of God's love and light, and so frequently suffer by virtue of their beautiful sensitivities. I am aware that 2 of the 4 band members were driven by despair and took their own lives. RIP 🙏💗😔.

I loved this in 1972 when I bought it, and thankfully I still have the 45, and it still thrills me. Such a great band.

Breaks my heart knowing what the band endured at the hands of that wicked, malicious corrupt manger of theirs, beautiful song, after all these years it a timeless classic. ❤️

Badfinger wrote the soundtrack to my childhood. Flying just below the radar in the early seventies , you just kept hearing great new songs on the radio and wondered "Who was THAT?" If ever a band deserved a biopic, the rise, the triumph, the tragedy, it's this one.

I would like to see someone like Martin Scorsese do it and for the life of me, I don't understand why this has not been made into a movie.

They had a tragic career, but they put out some memorable songs. Still listening in September 2020.

This is one of those musical pieces of art that Transcends Time, Place, and Emotion. So eternally grateful that I was able to experience it.

I am sitting here listening to this song at Toyota of Bowie getting my vehicle serviced in Bowie, Maryland July 30, 2022. I was in the 11th grade when this song came out in 1972. I miss those days.😥😪

I guess I'm getting old... Words can't describe the feelings this song brings forth. I remember first hearing it in 72 as a second grader. I loved it then and love it more now. What an era to be growing up in!!

I'm 70 years old. The words and relics of this song have never left my mind since my secondary school days. Thanks to modern technology I found it today! I'm only saddened by the news how tragic the ending of this gifted group was.
