I'd throw the remote switch as far as I can and go buy a two way switch that yo can wire to the solenoids. That will make it instant start and stop with no delay like the remote switch does. I use the 3500 lb. version of this winch, which is a better value all around in my opinion. It's only a few dollars more, stronger, more powerful motor, thicker, stronger cable and just heavier duty than the 2500 lb. version like that. And with the sale coupon, along with the 20% discount, you can actually get the 3500 lb. one cheaper!
I have hacked into the control box and added a switch to my dash to run the winch ..I also have a master switch to shut all power off to the winch so it does not run my battery down when the tractor is stored away...I will always keep and use my remote switch in case I need to use the winch when I am off the tractor ...I have several more videos of me using the winch ..One of them shows me pulling my Ford F150 pickup with it
+Jeff Long This bracket worked Ok even though it was not for this winch I have several videos on this winch mounted on my JD 112 garden tractor showing how it works
you can also remove the cable from the drum and run the other end through, like when you would need to replace the cable. I would recommend a synthetic cable anyway and just toss the steel one or keep it for a spare
I got the 3000# version of this one and had the same problem, no direct switch, only a remote. Remote stopped working and now I'm doing a direct wire. One relay broke too. You can wire two relays a certain way to get it to switch both +/-. You can also look at the old cordless screwdrivers for how to do that because they do it with just a switch (Skill Twist). Mine was $49 with plate, but they used to put the remote box on top of the motor, I'd rather have a remote box and plug with 15' cord.
There is a good video on you tube how to wire a switch ..I just took the cover off and tapped into 3 wires so I have a Toggle switch to go in and out I also have a big master switch so the winch gets No power when I am not using it for Safety and people say the remote sensor can run your battery down
@@not2fast4u2c It's really too bad that Harbor Freight doesn't pay attention to details because it's a good winch, but mine had a broken plastic part inside that caused a short, one relay was broken inside, same with a lot of their tools, poor attention to details and quality control issues. At least they're getting a better quality line of tools now.
@@karljay7473 Also beware of other brands of winches that are cheap imports ..I have been lucky my winch still works ..It is mostly used to lift my snow blade .I have replaced the steel cable because it rotted and broke then there cheap rope rotted also ..I now use he 1 dollar a foot 5000 ib stuff military grade can not remember the name but it is sold on amazon made in the USA to Mil Spec
My remote controller works OK and I hacked into the box and added an UP and DOWN switch on the tractor...Also I have a switch that shuts off all power to the winch when not in use...
This little winch works great...until....if the wire goes off the spool it will wedge in between the spool and the bracket. I was standing with the load using the remote to guide the item in (a riding lawnmower that didnt run), and didnt notice the wire running off course. at some point it just jammed and the spool broke the through rod for the free spool. I had a fair lead too. So if you are going to use this ensure that the wire goes on the reel properly at all times.....
I had to replace the cable because it rotted and The HF winch rope also rotted ..I now have some rope that costs a buck a foot ..winch still works great
The wire cable failed ..It rotted and corroded ..So I bought the sythenic rope and the fair lead thing with out the rollers then their rope started to rot and fail...Now I hve some Military tough stuff that cost about a dollar a foot great stuff I broke a piece Only because it kept wearing so bad on the roller less fairlead
My Allis Chalmers had a little winch to raise and lower all the dudads. I did not put it on someone else did.. It actually worked OK except it was mounted down by the feet of the driver. at 6:36 in my video not your hahaha ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--bdDff579f0.html This may help
