This is my first cover with my new modded Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat!
Bruce Springsteen is my favorite artist of all time (even more than the Beatles!). I grew up going to see his concerts from a young age, and he's the reason I play guitar. I covered his songs a few times early on in my channel, and I plan to do a lot more songs
Badlands is the epic opening track off his 1978 album Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Bruce plays his Telecaster, while rhythm guitarist Steven Van Zandt plays his Fender Stratocaster. Bruce also takes a ripping guitar solo, before saxophonist Clarence Clemons takes one himself
Bruce plays pretty basic chords on the main ryhthm telecaster part, although in the intro he kicks on his MXR Distortion pedal 0:13
Little Stevie also plays rhythm on his Strat but it's more prominent than Bruce's tele. He even does some lead lines during the second verse (1:20) where he switches on his amp's tremolo effect
Bruce then overdubbed his telecaster onto the track, recording a guitar solo as well as some slide downs on the outro. He turns on his MXR DIstortion pedal for all of these overdubs
The Darkness sessions were documented in the 2009 film The Promise, and we see some of the gear they used in the studio. Obviously, Bruce used his famous 1954 Esquire/modded Telecaster. Stevie is seen using a 1967 Fender Stratocaster, which was modded with an Alembic Stratoblaster boost switch
For amps they had a Marshall amp, a blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb, a silverface Fender Twin Reverb, as well as Bruce's 1950's tweed Fender Bassmans. I'm not 100% sure which amps Bruce and Stevie used on Badlands. Bruce probably used his Tweed Bassmans, because these plus his MXR Distortion pedal were his go-to setup on his 1978-1981 tours. Stevie either used the Deluxe Reverb or Twin Reverb amp, because we hear a tremolo effect in this song
For my gear, I'm using a 2007 Fender American Vintage '52 Hot Rod Telecaster into my 1965 Fender Bassman amp, with an Analogman King of Tone as a boost. I'm also using my real vintage 1979 MXR Distortion Plus pedal
And for Stevie, I'm playing my new 2024 Squier Classic Vibe 50's Stratocaster into the drive side of my King of Tone, into my 2008 Fender Deluxe Reverb amp. My Squier was upgraded with new pickups, plastics, pots and caps. I have Fender Pure Vintage '59 pickups in it now
