Definitely the clearest and easiest guide on how to install these Bafang motors on YT. Sadly i'm not close enough to get you to do it but I will use these videos as my reference on how to go around the different stages of the install. Thanks very much...
Thank you for the videos and as well the response to an email question. I’ve converted two bikes now with 500w Bafang mid mount motors for my wife and I. They are absolutely great and really was quite easy to do with your videos.
In the UK we are forced to fit a 750 Watt Bafung init ourselves as no bike shop is allowed or even willing to touch this due to the 250 Watt EU pedelec limit. The EU limit is a load of ruddy nonsense in one in five hill country of course, so your videos are so helpful, thanks.
Thanks Rebecca, yes I have Finally Finished my E bike ,With your Help. You was not able to answer my humble Question. Once More thanks.GOD Richly Blessed you Rebecca,
Thanks Beccy great video. Another old boy from the Uk who is seriously thinking of fitting one. Take some comfort from knowing that if I ever did it would be the one you fit. Stay safe.
I've watched a lot of install videos for this. Every one I learn something new or get a new perspective on the install. Very good job and well detailed. Thank you for uploading it for us to learn from for free.
Great video. I have seen other videos of your finished products and I must say you have the best cable management on your finished products. Your cable management on the outside of the bike looks identical to the install of a pre built bike with the wires inside the frame. Great JOB!!
Rev. Good details. easy to hear. to the point. And its not just the install by the kit deal. Goes a little further to do a better install and without making it seem complicated in anyway. 5 stars from Lorton Virginia were we ride the Capital Area. Yes the fences suck! They are in the way of what use to be a prefect ride
Awesome video. Would have to agree with an earlier comment, the best installation video on RU-vid. I just wanted to see the gear change sensor but watched the whole video. Cheers from NZ.
I use to live in Scarborough England at the top of the steepest hill in town. I pumped my 3 speed hub bike up that hill with all my strength back in 1962! Wish it was an ebike then!
Thank you for the video. Recently got a cargo bike with a bafang motor second hand and this video helps me feel more confident about being able to do basic service to the bike
FYI, when re-using cable’s for shift sensor or brakes just mark the cable at the locking nut with a black marker before removing so you know where it was when you started.
Amazing help - I have been unhappy with selection of ebikes out there, I have loved by Surly Ecr bikes and after watching your videos I think I will try for a Bafang 1000, I am not a great mechanic so I hope this works - I would not have thought of this without your videos, Thank You
Hey Rev BecKa, Great video, you guys were a Great help on my Bafang Installation overhere in Italy, Thanks a bunch, looking forward to your next video..
PS - Should have also said - From another 'Woman in Tech' - I Love what you do. Nothing against the guys/others (they totally rock too!), but it does make a nice change to see a fellow gal kicking it!! 👍😃
Good question. The gear sensor should be plugged in direct to the motor, at the rear, because the effect seems to be a more smoothed out 'off then on' transition from that sensor plug. Those same plugs up at the handlebars are for brake cutouts, with a more abrupt 'off then on' transition.
Back when we filmed these videos, BAFANG didn't make the motors with a plug down there for the gear sensor, which was designed by another company actually.
Great videos and very helpful, thanks for making and posting them, made installation and hookup easy to do. Only challenge was re-indexing the rear derailleur but you kinda warned us about that in the video! :-)
Do you have some photos of your mid-gear installation on the Greenspeed Magnum HANDCYCLE I could see behind you at the start of this video? I like your videos as simple language, and nothing is assumed. I have a Greenspeed I want to add a mid0drive to and would appreciate any hints you gained from your old install.
Does the display have a swivel option? I'm thinking of installing it onto ape hanger handlebars on a retro chopper bike. So I'd need to be able to change the orientation of the screen to the mount by 90 degrees
Nice job Ms. REV Becca. My Bafang kit should be here in a few days, at which time I will install it onto my AZUB TRIcon recumbent tricycle. You answered a major question I had about installing two brake sensors as well as a gear sensor, that being do I need a splitter or not? Yes. Much appreciated. Additional question: Is it necessary to upgrade the chain ring to something like a Tekkie Bling Ring which allegedly has longer, stronger teeth. I get the feeling the Bafang motor is quite powerful. Will the gear sensor eliminate the need for such an upgrade? Thanks again.
I have a Sun Trike and I installed the Bafang with no problem. I had to install the battery on a rack at the rear of the trike, that seemed like a better option than the battery installed on the tube near the pedals. Hope this is a help.
You gays are doing great Job as regards to mountain The Bafang Motor Pls i have a Question the Right Hand Break my bicycle comes with the gear shifter together with the break.my humble Question is,What Should I do
Thanks for your very clear and well done video, i have a quick question, how to you secure the battery?, i see that the battery holder/bracket is very tight but then the battery just "connects" to it by sliding down, how do you avoid the battery coming off when in rough terrain?.
Hi Do you have a video of installing the bafang mid drive on this specific bike? I have the same one and want to know if there are any issues with mounting on the bottom bracket and if any spacers are required. Thanks!
The brake sensors are really not needed, I was going to glue them on like in your other video but have ridden over 2000 miles in hilly areas without and the bike is fine. If you feel like you need to stop the motor a quick back peddle stops it instantly.
True enough, so long as you have the gear sensor on. The main time when you don't want the pedelec to kick in is when you are coming to a stop and changing down through gears.. Shift Sensor stops that anyway 😊
Rebecca, there are 2 red/black wire groups exiting my bbs02 motor. The thicker pair are obviously for the battery, but what are the thinner wires supposed to connect to? I thought it might be a light, but that runs from the usb port on the display!!!
RevBeka, small problem with “password protected” DCP 14 display, simply by depressing the central button for 2 seconds the battery will drive the motor by throttle alone without the display. Try it and see. Thanks for your great videos, they’ve been very helpful. Regards Darryl.
great videos, the Bafang kit we have came with the new break levers but they have no rear derailer gear lever to go up & down the gears, can you please avise how or what item we would need for this ?
Hello, I wanted to ask you for help. I bought the BAFANG BBS01B 36V 250W kit with Hailong 17.4Ah battery, to mount it on a SPECIALIZED STUMPJUMPER COMP HT 29 "from 2012. The problem is the size of the bottom bracket, the cylinder of the MTB is of length 73.5 mm and the internal diameter is 45.5 mm smooth, without thread. While the BAFANG one is 65 mm + 17 mm threaded, the diameter is 33.5 mm. Can you advise me how to solve without proceeding with a structural modification of the MTB. Sorry in advance for my terrible english.
I have a HL Bicycles Storm (Mountain bike) their is a hinge for the rear suspension very close to the mounting hole for the motor, do you know if the motor will interfere with it?
I am enjoying your videos - all the way around the world here in the UK. Why do you choose mainly front suspension bikes - the Giant Roam seems popular with you - for converting? Is a suspension fork better for an ebike than a rigid fork? I notice that the majority of the expensive branded bikes with bosch or brose motors have suspension forks so... just wondering.
Well done video! Thanks for the info. Chain replacement is a requirement or nice to have ? And if yes what’s the highest preferred grade of chain? Also if I want to remove the front derailer is there some sort of a guide for the chain onto the front sprocket ? If you do see these questions then I throw one more in. In regards to the rear gear cassette, I find the large quantity of gears unnecessary. Would there be any advantage to having a smaller number of gears and having them mixed so that they are easy to find. For example on my dream bike I’m going to have 4. One for climbing mountains, one for cruising at optimum battery performance, one for going faster/cruising on a flat speedway, and one for top speed going down mountains ? From my experiences if find the large number on the cassette just make shifting between smoother, and ultimately really only use three or four gears in specific speed/load range and don’t spend effort hunting the rear gears for that perfect match. To much lost energy, and for sure it’s gonna need to change soon. Thanks and your vids a very well done.
Chain replacement is required when it's worn out (stretched). You pay for what you get.. higher price equals longer life usually. No need for chain guide usually. You can leave the derailleur on if you want. Or choose a Bling Ring to hold the chain on better. You can choose however many gears you want really. I've known people who change the order of the cogs on the cassette around.. so the gears they want arterial use regularly are in the middle of the cluster, with the straightest chain line.. why not?!? 😁
Great video. Any suggestions on how to adjust my bbshd pedal assist so it stops immediately after i stop pedaling? The motor continues to run for 1-2 seconds after I stop and it is becoming dangerous, especially trail riding. Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Hey Becca. Question: Does it matter which way the shift cable is threaded thru the gear sensor? Can the cable go thru the sensor with the signal cable exiting toward the front of the tricycle (recumbent) or MUST the signal cable point towards the rear derailleur? Hope this makes sense. Please advise. Thanks.
Hey Becca, I have a Schwinn Onus 27.5 men’s hardtail mountain bike and I was wondering what I would need or if I wanted to add a bafang conversation to my mountain bike?
I just finished my install (I had a hub motor for 8 years) and this is a bit different for me, the throttle is incredibly sensitive. Anyway to adjust it? And it seems to stop and start when pedaling and using throttle. can anyone help?
I run a 30 tooth front chain rang on my MTB so 42 tooth is going to make gearing really high? I run a 1 x 10 40-11 rear cassette BTW. Also square taper cranks have a reputation for wearing hence most premium makes dropped them years ago. Also are the crank bearings replaceable as I ride off road more than on road and they will need to be replaced eventually?
Good questions Mark. Gearing will be higher yes, as the motor levels out the hills, so you'll have less need for lowest gears. You could choose a 36T ring if you want. Usually you won't wear the cranks out nearly as fast with a motor 😊
Becca: the connection from my gear changer sensor doesn’t appear to match the connection from the motor. Both are three pins, one male the other female. Yours connected easily. Mine, has no room looks as if I must force the male up under the black plastic of the female. Any suggestions? John
I wish you were in the USA! I can't find any ebike dealers to do a conversion. They all want to sell me a complete bike. I have a recumbent and want to convert it. You can't buy an factory electrified recumbent other than a trike. You wouldn't know anyone in the NY City area that does conversions, do you?
Thinking about purchasing this kit and putting it on a 2018 giant roam 3 disc brakes. Just trying to figure it out if it'll fit and work on my bike model anybody knows let me know please thank you
We used the parts that come in the Bafang kit, although the Brake Sensor and Shift Sensor are often extras from many suppliers. You can purchase kits from us (Australian customers only at this stage) at rev-electricbikekits.com.au/product-category/kits/mid-drive-kits/ :D
