The first word I said after watching this video was "WOW !" Iwas looking for a detailed method of putting a liner in a purse, and, I found this one. You make it seem very easy to do. I hope I can get this method to work out with the liner I need to make for a macrame bag I have made. TY for sharing this technique.

Thank you for this video. You are such a good teacher. I really enjoyed how easy you made this look. You did it slow enough so I could actually see what you are doing. Also, your voice is very calming which also calms the viewer and takes all the stress out of learning. I really enjoyed watching the video because you make it look so easy. Thank you again.

Thank you, Lisa Lam! I really appreciate seeing both methods of lining here. Even more importantly, I love that you shared the reasons why we might want to choose one method over another. Here I sit with a heavily-embellished exterior of a Christmas stocking (rather comically skinny-legged, though,) wondering how to best get my satin lining into it. My next project (already begun) is a new book bag, designed for heavy duty. You've helped tremendously for both, thank you so much!

I have recently made a few bags, but make them pockets on the inside and on the outside. Either way, I just love all bags of different colors and sizes. Now I need to learn how to make an insert for my tote bags as having pockets of some sort keep my things organized and easier to find. Have you made a video on making inserts for tote bags? Thanks for the 'easy to follow' video!

I like both methods...it is 6 of one...and half dozen of another with regard to end product...when you topstitch around the top of the bag to finish, the handles are extra secured anyways....either method, you end up with almost identical bags, right?

An excellent tutorial, but I still dont understand why you cant just stitch the lining to the main fabric right at the beginning, in effect sandwiching the interfacing between lining and outer fabric? That's what I did when I made my first bag, cut all pieces to the same size, and attached a lining and interfacing to every outer piece. Then proceeded to make the bag. Why doesnt anybody do it that way?

Drop in linings are perfect for lunch bags in my opinion. You just take out the lining, clean it and replace it with a new one when it gets dirty!

I hope someone can help me here. A friend of mine bought a very inexpensive dress from a place called Ocean State Job Lot. Sleeveless. Gauzy. Tie dyed pattern that had white sequins attatched. She washed it once, the sequins broke and most fell off! No surprise. I removed the rest and used 3&4mm glass beads to embellish the design. Came out beautiful. The problem? I don't want the knots to rub against her skin and also, the fabric is quite sheer in the sun. The dress is quite full, has a v shaped small yoke in front but just hangs straight. There is no waist. If I measured an inch or two down from the arm holes, is there any way to make a simple lining and what would be the best, least noticeable stitch to attach it with. I am a newbie but reasonably intelligent and ready to try anything. Should it be in two separate pieces? Cut front and back leaving an inch to fold in half with 2 -1/2" turns to make a neat seam? Same with bottom and top. I used Czech Fire crystals and want to spend the time to do justice to an $8 dress. Very grateful for advice.

I think doing it the second way gives the handles more support because they end up stitched to the fabric 3 times instead of just two; even though it is an extra step.

Nancy M. Hmm. I was counting steps also. By the time you press the top of each bag down in first method, you could have top-stitched around in second method. I'm going to try out both methods. I got so much out of this short tutorial. Think I might sign up for the class.
