How a vacuum cleaner motor works. Why a bag provides motor protection and how that equates to a better investment then throw away vacuums. Also why even if you go with a bagless vacuum you should buy new filters regularly. What is really more expensive? What is really healthier? Find out here.

Thank you for putting into words how I felt about the bag less vacuums. I've always had canister vacuums. I had a friend who I occasionally visited and had to sleep in a blow up bed on the floor and her carpet was filthy. I asked her what she was using and she shows me this $80 vacuum that she bought from Walmart. So the next time, I brought my Sears vacuum with a dirt indicator light that turned green when that area was not picking up any more debris. She watched as I had to roll over one spot 20 times before the indicator light turned green. So she wanted a new vacuum, but she went bag less and I kept thinking that there's no way that bag less was a better option, but it wasn't my money and I didn't know what to say.

Many people veiw a vacuum as just another appliance like a blender but it really has a lot to do with your health, quality of living etc. Its also a financial issue and conversation.

It depends on what your preference is and what your needs are. If you have life threatening allergies a Bagged vacuum would be best. If you prefer the convenience of not having to buy vacuum bags and you have a good and strong immune system like me then a Bagless vacuum would be best.

Don't be disingenuous with me Karen! I absolutely won't tolerate it! You and I both know that what might work for some might not be fit for others! So don't leave me an irritating reply like "You will probably end up being quite ill using the bagless!" After I clearly said that I have a good strong immune system and Bagless is fit for my needs! If you're on a budget, I would recommend ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XPCepyPsNc0.html You can find them for less than $200 all over all the time; however, you can can sometimes find them for as little as $130-$140. If you're interested, write down the model number and look on Amazon, EBay, Wal-Mart online, and Best Buy. Only use the HEPA bags in it and your family should be healthy. I have one of these, after taking my older Oreck to our new beach house and buying a bagless that almost killed my family, and they are little workhorses. I get them for family members as wedding, xmas and birthday presents, and I've never had anyone say they did not like them or who did not use them. If budget is of no concern, just about any bagged upright vac is better than the bagless. They clean better, your house smells better, your family stays healthier, and it takes less time to use them. Hope you love your new bagged vac.

I'm a collector so I have both. I don't use bagless machines often but I empty them into a bag so dust doesn't fly everywhere. I empty in a garage BTW. In my opinion I recommend to buy a bagged vacuum. They are more sanitary and more convenient because you don't have to clean the bin every now and then. Yes bags can be expensive but you don't have to replace a bag a whole lot.

My wife and I used to have a bagless cylinder cleaner. She complained how much the dust blowback from the bin affected her asthma. Her mother suggested that we get a bagged cleaner like the one she has. We went out and bought one. My wife instantly appreciated how much 'cleaner' and 'fresher' the air is in the house is due to all the dirt being stored in the self-sealing dustbag. The dustbags in our cleaner last a good few months before they need to be changed as we have mainly wooden flooring in our house. I would never go back to a bagless machine again. The extra money spent on new dustbags is a small price to pay for having a far cleaner and fresher house. This review is fully subjective so feel free to disagree if you wish, but I fully stand by my bagged cleaner. Have a good evening all!

This was a great explanation of why bagged machines are superior. Not many people get into the details of how it protects the motor. I've always said that bagless vacuums were an invention to a problem that never existed. The fact that people think it's more convenient to empty a dust bin instead of throwing away is mind boggling. I've used a Dyson DC65 a few times (belongs to my girlfriend's mother) and it feels so cheap and flimsy. I'd never buy one. I have an old Royal Classic Edition, a Sebo X4, and a Simplicity Synergy (same as the Riccar Radiance) and I'd love to take them all to her house one day and show her how inferior the Dyson is to them in performance, design, and build quality.

Better bagless vacs have better air flow than the best baged vacs with the cost of dumping the canister often and frequently cleaning filters and they do protect tha motor very well in well designed vacs when maintaining them properly.
@mhtube01
@mhtube01 2 года назад
@@dalewinchester7236 I have run tests myself and seen many comparisons and have yet to see a bagless vacuum outperform a bagged machine in any category. Some bagged vacuums have good suction power but poor airflow. So many people cannot grasp how different they are. Dirt moves where air flows. Bagged vacuums have stronger airflow because the motors in bagless vacuums have to work so much harder to create a comparable amount. Suction may not be lost through the cyclones but airflow is and that is why they pass up so much dirt, even if they have decent agitation. There are so many videos out there that prove this and you can test it yourself at home. Why do you think you see vacuums like Sebo in commercial applications instead of Shark or Dyson?
@mattheviewer
@mattheviewer 2 года назад
Helpful info! However, bypass airflow's actually into the fan chamber (shiny portion of motor) and exits flowing over the armature/stator motor portions (blackish areas)....the reverse of what's shown early in the video.

In about 3 to 6 months a cheap "sealed" vac will not be sealed, especially with Dyson and Shark. And with Shark, you can pay around $400 for a disposable vac that won't even let you change the brushroll. I like my old shark, but even by shark standards the new stuff is utter crap.

Brilliant video. Just 2 questions. I know it would cause a dust issue but is it possible to empty a bag into the bin and re-use it hundreds of times? Secondly, I hear what you say about washing filters opens the pores, but regardless is it possible to do the same with bagged vacs (rinse the bags)? Thanks.
@theanalogkid2778
@theanalogkid2778 4 года назад
No. Do not do that. Sure you can empty a bag but at that point just get a bagless because eventually the bag is gonna get old and gross. But washing the bags is a really bad idea. The bag can deteriorate and fall apart and cause the container where the bag goes to be filled with dust. Not only that washing a bag id imagine would make a horrible musty smell.

my dyson DC25 has lasted me 10 years so far, and I vacuum regularly. I get 10 washes out of the pre-motor filter, and I have to change the post motor filter at the same time. a Bagged vacuum I would have to invest in bags, filters, rubber band things to make to make the brush turn, and be a slave to the vacuum store. Dyson is the King if you take care of you stuff
@sprockkets
@sprockkets Год назад
Your Dyson will have terrible suction too. You can wash that filter all you want, but you aren't actually cleaning it. And Dyson builds their stuff in Malaysia, which is even worse than China. Meanwhile I just bought 20 genuine sebo bags for $57 which will for home use last over ten years. And I'll never have to dirty my trash can with dirt, or "wash" a filter.

His point is that the pre motor filter doesnt do a good enough job to protect the motor. Which means that replacing a motor on a bagless, well, you do the maths... your bagless is a POS, as is your logic
@karenpierce6424
@karenpierce6424 5 лет назад
@@santouchesantouche2873 I agree with you 100%. The cost of replacing the filters in the bagless was not added in either. Every time you wash the filters they are less efficient; therefore, replacing them at least once every six months is pretty much advised; however, there's really not a whole lot you can do to make the bagless vacs efficient and sanitary. There's a reason why you never see a bagless vac used in commercial establishments or by the majority of cleaning services. It's too bad some people are programmed to listen to the hype and get taken in! I always wonder why some people put more weight on an infomercial or sales person than they do on an experienced person who has used the products and really has nothing to gain monetarily by attempting to steer you in the right direction.

Hen has a very poor understanding of what he is talking about 1.He is demonstrating air flow as thru the motor before going thru it's fan - this is WRONG- air leaves the fan before going thru the motor and in so doing COOLS the motor. 2. He talks of spining brushes - there is no such thing ! The carbon brushes CONDUCT ELECTRIC CURENT !!!!! to the commutator of the motor and this curent passes thru the windings of the SPINNING armature. 3. The socalled POST-MOTOR filter is really post the main filter which is in the cyclonic chamber - this means that any very fine particulate matter, which has not been retained by the main filter e.g a virus, " may be stopped" by this filter - genrally this "filter" is a place where a perfumed pad is placed !! 4, When he compares filtration area he shows he is quite unaware of the pleated; reinforced; paper filter which is within the cyclonic chamber of the bagless vacuum cleaner. 5, The so called "swirling around" in the cyclonic chamber is to seperate the heavier particulate matter from the lighter so that only the lighter is removed by the filter - which is WITHIN the cyclone. The cyclone's filter should be removed when the dust chamber is emptied, and it is usual to clean it by "rapping" it against say - an out side wall - this proceedure is perhaps the MAIN/ONLY disadvantage of a bagless cleaner. The big advantage is that one is always aware of how much dirt is in the machine . I have see bags so full that there is practically no flow i.e. no cleaning. Mind you that is not to say that I have not seen a bagless cleaner where the user has not refitted the cyclone filter but just thown it out with the dirt.
