I have done the Lost valley many times as a guide from the local youth hostel and have done the route to the munros . my favourite place in the world . boulder migilly in the middle of the lost valley . a special place .Bidean nam bein is a very intimidating mountain great video cheers
Well done.One of my favourite routes is this one.The views from the very start all the way round the tops and when you drop back into the Lost Valley are just fantastic.Glencoe at it's best.😀👍
I remember many years ago as a kid, putting rocks in Friends ruck sacks (as a joke) at the sandwich stop on the top… to alert them Maybe 1/2 an hour later what we had done!!😂
In my naivety when planning the routes for my 12 month challenge….I numbered and even predicted a date on each route… which is all on my website www.baggingthemhills.com , In reality routes and dates are a moving fest … according to how I feel and indeed the weather … i suppose the only date that really matters is July 17th when I climb Ben Lomond #282
What a great day out NIck. The Lost Valley is where Clan MacDonald hid the cattle they'd rustled from other clans. Also a few survivors of the massacre hid there on that awful winter night. Can you tell me where you were put off going by no dog signs. The much misunderstood Scottish access code which is a right of "responsible" access, also has requirements on the landowners. Dogs are allowed on open land "under close control". I was once called over by a shepherd. I walked through his flock with my collie to heel. He told me in no uncertain way to put her on a lead. I asked why as she could not be any closer to me. He said if seen she would be shot and I said that noone would risk shooting her when that close to me, but on a long lead she could create mayhem in his flock. As it happened it was about the only time I ever had a lead with me so I put her on until out of sight. To me Stan is clearly under control ( I don't kow quite how close, ) but at least you have an absolute right to take him on a lead.
Eddie. I was trying to link Beinn Mhanach & Beinn Achaladair & Beinn a Chreachain… My guide book recommended walking Beinn Mhanach separately… but I think they can be linked by starting at Achallader… this is where the “No dogs allowed due to lambing” sign is… also OS show a car park there, which has since been relocated to the road side. I have re-looked at my map , and intend walking the route in the order above from Roadside carpark … previously I had intended walking the route in reverse order from Achallader, but a sign on the first gate suggests cars are not allowed past that point, to the carpark I had I initially intended using… it will be a long day and these set backs caused me to reconsider the other day.
@@baggingthemunros3354 Why not attack Beinn Mhanach from parking at Auch and walk up Auch Glen (where the vehicle track repeatedly fords the river) then attack Beinn Mhanach when you are approaching Loch Lyon? Auch makes a great attack point for the 5 hills including Dorain and Dothaidh, which is well within your capabilities, but you have already done those 2 if I remember correctly.
Hi Nick that’s the 1st time iv heard you breathing very heavily at any summit ⛰ BNB 😆 To date this hike/route is the best and toughest that i personally have ever done agree with you description as a very tough mountain and descending down the lost valley is a bit tricky too i went left and did not cross the river and over SCNL to BNB watching this makes me want to do it again but you need to be at your best as it’s a tough 1 but truly fantastic with the scenery and paths changing all the time when you stand at the 3 sisters carpark and look up it takes your breath away it’s truly 1 awesome mountain range isn’t it really enjoyed watching you bagging these 2 as i appreciate how tough they actually are well done 👏⛰⛰

I'm hiking this route on Bidean tomorrow, I've found this video so useful, thanks. I wasn't sure if it would be possible to descend into the lost valley from the bealach if the scree gully was plugged with snow, but as you've managed it only last week we will give it a go! Good luck on the rest of your Munro journey, I've subscribed.
Certainly a big day out this route, i've done the reverse way three times in various weather. If you ever get to go up again then try opposite direction and add in the outlier to Bidean nam Bian called Stob Coire nam Beith. It only takes about 30 mins out and back but the views are even more impressive. We'll done sir.
