Still working on this, but my chanter sounds like it's half a step too high when I play high G. Is that just the nature of the beast, or am I doing something wrong?
@GetBagpipeReady

Most practice chanter's are out on the High G. You can Try putting a pit of scotch tape or electical tape on the top half of the high G hole to flatten the tone.

I do a pretty good job of picking out notes when I’m trying to learn a tune but as a beginner breathing is a bit of a challenge that makes finding the notes harder. Would you recommend a Blair or any electric chanter to help with learning tunes?

Great Question, Austin Engraving Solutions, and I imagine that there are different opinions on this! An electric chanter Gives your breathing a break, But then you’re not working on your breathing, which is quite important if your planning to get on the full set of pipes eventually. Electric chanters can be very unforgiving for their crossing noises, which can be frustrating for beginners. On the other hand, they Have different sounds which can be really fun, and you can play With earphones in which can give people around you a break 😉 In my opinion, I see that electric chanter has a supplementary addition, but not a substitution for the traditional breath blown chanter. Here’s a link to where I talk more about electric Chanters: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d9KL0pa87uQ.html

@@GetBagpipeReady Makes perfect sense of course. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Ill be following you as I really like your approach. Ill be occasionally jamming with my other Irish band mates so technique might take a back seat while I learn the melodies. Copperhead Rd incidentally is one we often get requests for, so thats helpful : ) Thanks again - Neville

Would you play the same notes on a Bb chanter? I am just learning. Thanks for putting this video on youtube

Great Question Marcel! I’m not sure that I’m the best one to answer it, because I don’t have a B-flat center. My initial thought would be that yes you would use the same notes and fingering. Maybe someone else who knows when I’ll see this comment and let us both know the answer:)

Fingerings same , think guitar and capo or tin whistles in different keys ...

I have practiced this until I am blue in the face, I think I almost have it now, thanks to you Alec. Our garage band has a rehearsal on the 23rd of this month, I am going to give it a go on my bagpipes.
