I had a great day great company a nice feed and away off home with dry cloths escaping the really bad weather that was a big bonus. Made it all the more enjoyable. That night the rain was like the end of the world floods everywhere. Rivers running brown. Somebody up there was looking after me. 😇
Hi my friend. I don't know how much you know about fishing. The trout in this lake in this video are stocked fish. Lots of anglers look down their noses on this type of fishing because there not wild fish and they believe they are so easy to catch. There was hours in the making of this video that i couldn't catch one. Fish were feeding all around us and would not take our flies. Eventually i put on a little fish imitation a single fly on the line and had success. I really enjoyed my day fishing and am not afraid to say I've had many many great times fishing on stocked lakes. There's one lake near where i live and i used always fish it and was devastated when they stopped stocking it years ago. It was called loughaderra a couple of miles from my home. Every time i pass it looking at the swans on it and ducks i shed a tear.
Great to see the gang back there Vincent. There's nothing like a day out stockie bashing to get a fish fix! I've lost several anchors over the years just throwing them in the lake without tying it to the boat first. I've had several disasters in boats. Fully capsized on time in a lake. I had to grab my mate by the hair as he was sinking. He did the schoolboy mistake of tackling up in the boat. We were only about eighteen at the time. We made it to the floating fish pens and waited to get picked up. It was February and it was the coldest I've ever been! We really need to get that etiquette sorted Vincent. I'm fully siding with your missus on this one. I know you have to cut the odd corner cooking in the wild but you can't spread butter with your finger!! Always great watching your videos. This lake holds wild brown trout I've been told you can't keep any wild trout if you catch any must be returned. I've also been told there are rainbows put into this lake finger size and they grow big fast with the great feeding in the lake. It's a gem of a lake. I will be back there again very soon. 15 each for two anglers with a boat that's great great value and if you bring home a feed of trout which i always do its the best value. Had a good day. The fish in the mountains are much bigger much bigger but i never catch the biggest ones they are hard to catch. They get big because they are smart. I catch the small ones on a fly. The really big ones you would have to use small dead fish which is not allowed but that's the only way you will catch the biggest ones they won't go for a fly they eat their brothers and sisters. As a man in his sixtieth year and a man of similar build and vices I understand the pills. I also occasionally enjoy chasing rainbows and they are a magnificent fish. But....like me...I would bet my pension that you Vince would rather catch a half pound wild trout than a 4 lb stocked fish.. Great video..can't wait to see you on the mountain lakes.
Thanks man you know me so well. The weather's been so cold for camping at night. I'm not getting any younger. I like my comforts. Please God the weather will start warning us very soon and i will be back up camping in the mountains. Cheers. I used do a lot of rainbow trout fishing in a lake near where i live during the winter months but they stopped stocking it and that was the end of that. This lake opens 12 months a year so i will be definitely fishing it during the winter months in the future. It has wild brown trout in the lake but you can't keep them they must be returned. It's great to have a new place to fish.
Hi Vincent, Just finished a really busy week at work with a timber company. Had a great week. I'm varying my work to expand my future options. I reckon those were either Trout or Salmon Eggs you swallowed at the start instead of Pills. Ha Ha. I liked Chris's Amber Flashing Light. Reckon it was an Unidentified Fishing Object. Ha Ha. Every time I get a Chinese takeaway I get the same meal jumbo curry special for the last 33 years i never change my order. If the weather was good I'd be going to the mountain lakes I'm happiest up there. But the weather has been not good for camping this year so far. Hopefully it will improve soon. Well done Mr. Donnelly is right. Would you believve it: i've got Rainbow Trout today too. With the salmon and sea trout fishing the way it is, these strangers are getting more and more popular. Don't know wether that's a good or a bad thing. Hope you are back on the proper beverages and everything is good.
It's just unbelievable, what's going on with the seatrout and salmon fishing with these fish farms its criminal. People should be getting put into prison. Apart from ruining the wild fishing killing the stocks, but selling people poisonous fish that are bad for your health it's unforgivable. These fish farms are given millions in grants to to do even more damage. It's all about greed all about greed. The fishing is getting worse every year. Illegal netting going on wholesale pollution pumped into rivers by big factories and the person who ends up in court is the angler who has a barb on his hook. Seriously. With new rules being made up each day and draws for brown tags it's all a bloody joke. Theses fish farms if they were brought off the high seas and brought inland which could be easily done that would save the wild salmon and seatrout. It's the answer to all our problems. But the powers that be don't own the wild fish so they would rather destroy it and make a market making people only be able to eat their poisonous fish. I would never eat a piece of salmon from any supermarket they look sick with out of shaped bodies disfigured heads and fins. Dyed insides to look appetising. Dyed!!!! And the average person doesn't know this looking at these fish. The shameless scandal will all come out when people start dieing from eating salmon. It will all be to late. 19 and a half stone it's time to at least try and loose a bit of weight. It's hard because i love my grub. Plus alcohol I love that so much. I have an infection in my right ear so that's why the antibiotic tablets and have to stay off the drink until i finish them I'm writing to you right now looking at bottles of Jameson in my cupboard. Paul the gass man gave me a bottle at the lake for a Christmas present. Its calling me 😱 LOL. Cheers pardon the expression.
Ah I had to read through the comments to realise and confirm my suspicion that you guys were fishing a stocked lake this time, for a while I was thinking the fish had quadrupled in size during Covid. I guess the fees for fishing on a stocked private lake can be a little different than the usual as your guaranteed some fun and a greater challenge struggle wise?
Hi my friend. The lake in the video holds wild brown trout but you can't keep them. They must be released. I've been told the rainbows are put into the lake as fingerlings and grow on in the lake which would explain the great quality of the fish with perfect fins and tails. I've never seen such a class of stocked fish. It's 30 euros for a boat which you can fish up to 3 anglers in the boat that's 10 euros each that's great value and you can keep 4 trout each if you can catch them. A great day out. Not quite the mountain lakes in Kerry which is where i love. Hope to get back down to kerry very soon. Weather has not been good so far this year but when it improves I'll be back where i belong. I spent a summer as a teenager working in the Leap Inn Lounge Bar in Connonagh on the West Cork tourist rout, just south of where that lake is located, though I’ve never been there. But it sounds like a great deal and location for a beginner to try out some fly fishing. I love that stop at Billies Drive Thru in Bandon, great stop for the breakfast roll or a feed of cod & chips in the evening, we have a holiday retreat in Courtmacsherry so it’s one of our favourite stop off points unless we take the Kinsale coastal route where we would opt to have the Fish n Chips at Dinos. I’ve never tried Fishy Fishy…though I shouldn’t be mentioning these places as your on your wife’s salad diet!

A very enjoyable day neighbour for a change, and the trout taste absolutely beautiful. With lemon of course. LOL. It's not quite the mountain lakes in Kerry but it's definitely a new place to fish during the winter months. It's opened 12 months a year. So I'm looking forward to my return visit.
