Hello!! Thank you for posting this!! I have 3 questions - 1) how do you cover the hole the night before (what do you use and how do you attach), 2) how long can you leave it with the hole covered (do you have to take care of it the next morning, or any time during the next day), and 3) how long can you leave the bees you caught in the trap before you must transfer (I have a trap similar to yours)?

We have had our swarm trap up for a few weeks and nothing yet 😢. We baited with oil and has frames and wax and everything

I captured a wild swarm a few years ago. They did fine for a couple of years then there give blew over in a snow storm. I lost them all . so last year I bought some from a company. They stayed for a couple of moths. Thought they where doing fine then one night they where all on outside of the hive. By morning they where all gone. Never to be seen again. What happened? Why would they do that?

Sometimes they just don’t like there living conditions ( could be so many things) that they just abscond.

I’ve got my hive setup and a stand 3 feet off the ground near the trees and it’s a 10 frame hive. I have it baited but it’s been about a month and nothing yet. Do I need to just get a swarm trap in the tree or do you think they will come to my hive near the ground. Thanks in advance

It is possible that a hive will work but it hasn’t worked for me. I have set out these fiber pots for years and catch swarms every year and I have also set out nucs and not been nearly as successful. Also the general rule is to put the trap or whatever you have at least 6’-10’ off the ground and I face it southeast.

If I need to move the swarm, how far does the swarm need to be from where I catch them?

If you are going to move a hive, move them no more than two feet, or more than two miles.

I love watching you do something that you truly love to do and for you it's the bees for Andrea is more the cows I'm afraid I can't do any bees here there's too many Killer Bees around here that I wouldn't be able to keep us warm safe and unfluted with the other bad kind of bees and I just what would be probably equivalent to two blocks away the Killer Bees attacked a horse and brought it down killed it so sad to see so you're blessed you got that golden good stuff

You can do a paper merge but I’ll give them some brood and the hive will grow fast.

We don’t wind up doubling every year. We try to stay around two hives because that’s all we can handle with all the other things we have going on.

Not this early in the year. I’ll give hem feed and a frame of brood from another hive to get them growing quick.
