It's been 2 years since this video and Baja Designs has now updated their fogs to a SAE "street legal" version. Take a look at that video... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b3K0bz1pUNQ.html

Rob, thanks for the great video on these lights. Installed these today on my '16 Tacoma. They look great. One thing different that I did was install an extra screw on the bottom of the mounting bracket. Used a self taping sheet metal screw to add some stability. Housing is much easier to adjust, up and down now. Had a county sheriff check them out to see if I would get flashed, when I use them and he said they should be fine, so the alignment seems to be good. Thanks again for the inspiration. Safe driving!

Thanks Rob! I'd suggest for everyone to just do the install from the top down (for a 2017 Taco). No need to mess with the wheel well. Other suggestions: Prepare to shim the two tabs for a more solid fit, and zip tie the cables in place once it's all connected.

Thanks for the comment. I've read about drilling another hole in the bumper as well for a zip tie to mount under the ear with the screw.

Folks, this install can definitely be done from up top. I'm average height and can reach the screw just fine. FYI. Also, how does everyone's BD fogs sit. While they're nice, both sides tend to sit a little more towards the center of the car. Anyone else experience this?

I just install a 2 inch leveling kit to my 2017 tacoma sport. Do you think itll be good? I'm not doing anything hardcore off roading just a little off road here n there like 3 times a year or 4. Im mainly just leveling my rig for looks only.

Hi, I'd suggest getting a Bilstein 5100 shock. That's under $200 for the fronts and you'll have a better ride. Spacer lifts are fine for the street but having a situation offroading can ruin your day fast.

Hi Rob - can you confirm a couple things 1) what wires need to go to which on adapter and truck? (You said Green +, White - on Truck and Brown +, Black - on harness. 2) how do you adjust downwards? what was your process? Have my kit ready for installation!
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 6 лет назад
Hi, Sorry for not posting earlier. Long day at work. The BD kit comes with an wiring harness mount and wires that isn't attached yet so in my video I wanted to confirm polarity before I proceeded. The OEM harness is Green/White and the BD wires are Brown/Black so I matched them Green to Brown and White to Black. When you lay everything out, you'll see what I mean. The bracket holds the light at 2 points so after mounting, I simply loosened the 2 bolts, angled them down more then tightened. I got them from behind the headlight but I have long arms. You should be able to get it at the front if you don't put on the fog covers. You'll want to aim towards a wall and point them lower than your headlight beams. Mine pointed too high and actually overpowered my HIDs. Let me know if you need further assistance. They're awesome lights!

Hey thanks for the video man. I’m thinking about getting the same ones but I have a couple of questions.What exactly comes in the box itself? Does the Mounting Brackets in the box fit in the Tacoma itself? And do I need to purchase the Fog Pocket Kit in order to install the fog lights correctly? TIA!
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 6 лет назад
they're great lights. you won't regret it. There's 2 boxes. the lights will come in one box with a generic switch and wiring. the pocket kit itself will have the mounting brackets, pockets and the proper harnesses for plug n play hook up. prior to the pocket it was just the brackets and harnesses. Let me know if you have any other questions.

How are these amber lights with your HID's? I have the KC Hilites in amber and while they have a great wide amber cut off, they simply are not bright enough when I have my HID's on. The light output of the HID's simply wash out any amber. Do these Baja Sports do that as well? I know they're substantially stronger than the KC fogs, but are they strong/bright enough to flood the view with amber lighting over HID's?
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 5 лет назад
Hey thanks for asking. Mine are definitely brighter than my HIDs. I run rx350 retrofit with 35 watt ballasts. The latest versions of sports are actually brighter. They may be too bright and overwhelming. BD is working on a SAE version so you may want to hang on for their release if you're planning on running em on the streets.
@ScooterBlia2
@ScooterBlia2 5 лет назад
Thanks for the input Rob! Really appreciate the work you put into the channel and response. Only intent is to use during really bad weather and off road. I'd rather have something that works in those conditions than something that's far underpowered for street use. LOL!
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 5 лет назад
@@ScooterBlia2 For sure they'll light it up very nicely. If you're running it like you would with high beams and off road then Baja be your best bet. Also they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee so you could return if it didn't meet your needs. Also you can change the lenses and put them somewhere else too.
@TonyWhats
@TonyWhats 6 лет назад
Great video, getting mine next week. Question about the lens orientation. You have yours with the lines vertical. Is that the way they are supposed to be or horizontal? I would think horitzonal would diffuse the light wider.
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 6 лет назад
That's actually a good question! It has to do with how light works and refraction. I can't say exactly why but those lines do something with breaking it up for different results. Could be how the leds sit in a round bowl shaped reflector too. I found this article that could help at least explain some. Thanks for commenting and checking my video. Happy Friday!

I am wondering if these lights would be bright enough to substitute for the low beam headlights on my ATV? I realize you are using the amber "wide-cornering" lenses but how bright are they? Are they substantially brighter than stock? I want something to flood the ditches and near the front of my machine. I already have the Baja Designs combo driving lights for my high beams and they work great for that application.
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 5 лет назад
They're bright for sure by just changing the lens to a combo. Baja offers a 30 day satisfaction guarantee so you can upgrade to Pros if it's not enough for you. Also you could go with S2 pros which I use for my ditch lights and they're really nice especially with the low profile.

@@RobDaman Yes, it's actually the Squadron Pro's with a Driving/Combo lens I am using for my high beams. I had wanted to use the Pro's for my low beams as well but I'm unsure about the Wide Cornering lenses...... it looks like it would take away too much usable light. Not too many videos out there with that lens on the Squadron Pro's.

@RobDaman 6 лет назад
Hi, thanks for checking out my channel! To answer your question, these Squadron Sport Wide are awesome for the city. I don't blind people at all. You just need to be sure you've tilted them down enough. I drive with these on when low light but not dark, trails during the day since it cuts through the dust. Take a look at my Holy Jim video were I'm climbing up a hill with and without my low beams on and also the end of that same video when driving home on the dirt trail. it was pitch black so you can see where the yellow lights shine. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kuzcf967WBs.html If you purchase don't forget to use the coupon code in my description. Hey Rob, i know u prob got a deal with baja designs... but wanted to ask, your thoughts on this or the Rigids fog lights??
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 6 лет назад
Hi, Good question. I did look up both products and if I had found a Pro Rigid set I may have gone that way to complete my Bro Pro look but I wanted amber/yellow to be able to see better when foggy (rare in So Cal I know) but there's mountain trails, dusty roads and overall integration/look in the bumper. The Rigid's mount looked a little over the top for me and I wanted something I could actually use when driving on the streets. The Squadron wide are perfect for on-road use without blinding others. The only other choice for street use would be KC Lites which are something you may want to look into too if on-road use is important. Those are actually DOT legal while Baja or Rigid aren't. I think all 3 companies are good. I haven't had experience with post sales customer service but I had a friend get the same Squadrons and had a mounting issue. Baja Designs took care of it asap, no questions asked. BTW I didn't really get a deal. I'd be all Baja'd out if so. haha. I like DIY and endorsing things that work well. Thanks again for the comment.

thanks for the reply, i do want the amber look. I think it looks pretty sweet on your truck. looks like baja design is the only option if you want amber. i will do more research on the pro rigids. I can't believe I'm having such a hard time selecting fog lights for my mall overlanding rig. hahahaha

Rob Daman there is nothing legal OR responsible thinking that you can run a non dot/sae led pod on the street. These will most definitely blind oncoming drivers. I'm glad you feel the look of your truck out weighs the safety of everyone on the road so you can look cool. Baja states that these are offroad only and not to be used on the street. The rigid pods are the correct, legal and safe way to go.

I am considering these or the PRO version. Are you happy with the light output of the SPORT model?
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 6 лет назад
+readyme hi. Thanks for posting. To answer your question yes I'm very happy with my sports. They put out 1800 lumens each which is plenty bright to me. The Pros are 4900 lumens each so they'll make it daylight. Lol. I went under the recommendation of Baja to stick with sports because I run them in the streets. Pros even in wide cornering will be really bright and will actually overpower your low beams. If you're using them strickly for Off-road, definitely go all in with Pros. Thanks again for commenting.

Do you run these while driving down the road or are they too bright?

My versions are fine but the current ones are too bright. They're coming out with SAE compliant set soon and I'm hoping to test a set 👍
@ritualghost

@@RobDaman which versions do you have? I really want these lights, but I'd only by a set that I can actually use running down the road. I'm not saying they have to be DOT approved, just not so bright that people will be flashing me.

Rob Daman I didn’t realize there were 2 versions of the Sport model. What are the differences?

@@readyme they revised them twice in 2 years. they got brighter every time. the more friendly street versions look to be finally coming in June. i really hope to try out a pair.

@@RobDaman interesting, I didn't realize they updated them. I just got a set, so they must be extra bright.

I'm considering these too... Worth it?

Yes indeed. You can run these during the day as extra DRL when offroading too in the dust clouds as well. They'll take them back if you're not happy with them.

Nice but why Amber? Are there benefits to amber?
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 6 лет назад
Great question! A white light would reflect the fog or dust back into your face while yellow/Amber doesn't so it's easier to see in hazardous conditions. That's why it's never recommended to use high beams when foggy. Plus the secondary benefit is others will notice you from farther away. I run them during the day when offroading so others can see me.

Rob, they look more yellow then Amber

I agree but BD calls them that so I'm just quoting their term however I think it's better for visibility. Thanks for commenting 👍

I actually did. Tested the wiring color to ensure it was the right polarity.
@W.Vanderbilt
@W.Vanderbilt 5 лет назад
@@RobDaman Testing it didn't show how you hooked it up. For example, where did the harness run to and from?
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 5 лет назад
The harness was what I tested. You connect the harness where the OEM fog light was connected. The other end is what you saw me test the Delphi connectors before plugging them into the weather packs which install in the squadron. I was concerned about polarity. The harness is about a foot long and goes from the end of the OEM fog light. Are you having difficulty installing yours? If my video or the attached directions with the package isn't helpful, give Baja Designs a call. They have excellent customer service and I sure they will set you straight 👍

zero rub on bro pros. it's the offset that causes scrub issues. ray10s are negative offset and 1 inch wider thanks for the compliment. more to come.

no the washer between the bracket and the body of the squadron pro.

@RobDaman 7 лет назад
+Greg Cisneros sorry. I was looking at my phone and thought it was my oil change video. To answer your question. I used an external tooth lock washer that came with the bolts on the outside of bracket. Nothing in between bracket and body. It went on the outside of the bracket so the bolt head wouldn't move due to vibration.

I know this install is "easy" but it sure would have been easier if you had actually shown what you did - every step. "Handy" people/techs don't need the video. Others need the details on tape, step-by-step.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the comment. I know it's not a very short video but did you see it in it's entirety? -I've shown how to remove the fog light cover. -Shown how the bezel gets installed and on the mount. -Shown which wires should be connected so the polarity is correct There is only a single screw that holds both the oem fog light and the Bajas so besides adjusting the angle that is the only thing I didn't show. Those are held by 2 bolts but you would see them when you mount the squadrons to the bracket. The video has been out for some time and the feedback I've received here and on Tacomaworld have been positive as a guide. You are correct it's not a straight through step by step but Baja does include the instructions. I believe I addressed the essential high points though. I think I could find someone's step by step on TacomaWorld if you like that assistance from me. Just let me know. Again I appreciate the comment.
