This footage is from a few of my recent snare foraging outings.
You take the good with the bad. Sometimes you get a pile of junk, other times you get handed $20 snares by strangers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So far in this season of crabbing (Nov. 2020 - Mar. 2021), I've picked up ~$200 in high quality (i.e. crabslayer, torpedocrabsnares, etc.) snares. It's a nice bonus when I'm spending hours in the cold, especially as I haven't been catching anywhere close to the amount as in the previous crab limit video.
Hopefully the inshore fishing picks up soon, I really want to feel some headshakes again.

That Gus’s snare with the circle ball weight could be mine. Literally lost that one not too long ago and I was crabbing at torpedo wharf. :(

No word of a lie, I think I picked one up yesterday at Baker. Didn't recognize it with all the rust on it. i.imgur.com/gbhl24Y.jpg #2 left to right. It's a hard to tell from the pic, but it was round and had a washer at one end for the cage door.

Got this in my recommended feed, What are the snares used to catch? Im assuming crab. Also, how do they work?

We put bait in the cage, typically something that has a lot of scent like squid or whole cut fish. Snare on line, open up loops, cast out. When the crab come in to eat, they have to work at the bait cage and hopefully become tangled in the loops or at the very least sit on top of them. When it's time to reel in, we set the hook (pull up on the rod) pretty hard. If a crab limb is in a loop when that is happening, then loop closes as the snare moves away from the crab, and we can reel them in. Another way you can imagine the concept is a bait cage with a bunch of cowboy lassos on it.
