Thanks for making this video! I am going to be attending Baker's in a couple weeks and this has really helped me feel better about knowing what to expect and how to prepare myself. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

That' s why I made it. I couldn't' find anything online prior to me going that actually showed the place or give an HONEST review about it. I am so glad this helps and glad you could FIND it.

I'm not sure you are giving Baker's a fair evaluation. You were to either have a diploma from an A & P school or certify on form 8610 to the FAA that you have the experience to take the test. Baker's isn't supposed to teach you things you didn't already know. You were supposed to have that knowledge either from your prior education or experience prior to going to Baker's. Baker's purpose is to refresh your knowledge and get you ready to take the test.

As stated, I did recommend the place. I also made it clear that they are not there to teach you. However, there are those who worked as a Jet Mac in the US Air Force and have never timmed a magneto. They have the training an experience to take the test but have only been working on jet engines and maybe have 0 experience on piston engine GA aircraft. Bakers is a good place for them to get first hand experance on how to do this. I have done this many times in my experience, but I wanted to point out to those with only military experience that they can pick up this skill there. The only part I did not like about my experance there was the first week in which I had the cram all those questions and answers into my head for the three FAA Written tests. That and the rude tone the director took with me when I asked for a piece of paper. Other than that, I have high praise for the place and made this clear in the video.

Hahaha Yes this was true about 10 year ago. Back when it was the good ol boys club and the examiner could ask you what he felt was important in an oral. But now the FAA has taken that option away from the examiners. Now the examiners how to log into the FAA website and then down load the area the FAA wants them to ask questions on. If you go to the very end of my video I show all the questions I was asked during my oral. Go read them and ask yourself can you right now answer all of them correctly?

I wish they just mailed the books to you and the weeks there was just practical and oral practice
@DannyCreech
@DannyCreech 22 дня назад
You could just buy the books or if you have paid up front ask them to mail them to you. There books are not as good as the ASA Books.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm in Rockwall and planning a Zenith 701 build. I watched your vid on the things you didn't like and am scratch building the tail section to incorporate a standard rudder. A&P is not in my plans, but learned from this none the less.

Glad I could help, for sure put a standard VS and rudder on the aircraft. You can look at the 750 cruzer on how Zenith mounted theirs. This year at Oshkosh they had the Zenith CH 750 “Super Duty”. I like it the best but it needs a normal tail. It is that tail which makes the thing feel weird when flying it. After building several Zeniths, the two things I would change if I built another one is to put a normal VS and Rudder on it and take the elevator bell crank off of the aileron roll tube. The 750 is built/designed a lot better than the 701. The tail on the 701 is really flimsy and loud. I always added .16 L s at angles to help with that beer canning sound. BTW, I have flown out of Rockwall a couple of things two years ago. If you can, I would switch your build to the 750. It is just designed much better. Thanks for watching.

wish i had seen this video earlier. currently sitting in my hotel the day before i attend bakers. this video was very helpful in knowing what to expect. my coworker who attended bakers earlier told me not to study and go there with a clear mind, just memorize dont learn.

Thanks for watching the video. Yeah, would have helped me if I had found a video like this before I went. As I mentioned in the video. I would NOT have done that first week and just knocked out the tests over three weeks before attending the second week. I just saw your comment from two weeks ago so either you past all of it and are now a certified A&P or you are still plugging away at it. Several of my classmates fell behind. It's a normal thing there. I can't believe my (at the time) 58 year old brain was able to cram all those questions and answers in it. Again, thanks for watching and if you ever see this comment, post another comment letting me know how you did.

Whew, I start class next Monday the 19th. I’m much more anxious now after watching. The oral was 169 questions!! Plus I don’t think I get the full 2 weeks; I’m supposed to meet with my oral and practical examiner on Thursday the 29th.

I just completed my apprenticeship and go to Bakers in 2 weeks. I have only studied some Prepware, do you think it would be smart to continue to study that or just forget it and wait til I get to Bakers?
@DannyCreech

As stated in the video, get the ASA exam books and memorize the questions. That will speed things up if you have to take all the FAA tests. If you have already taken all of your FAA tests, then get the ASA Oral Study Guide and memorize those questions. Don't listen to idiots who tell you not to study like I did. The only thing you should use for study material is the ASA written test prep book and the ASA Oral prep book. This is what Baker uses.

You had a hard time because you didn’t do what you were told. All of the instructors are great especially the cute redhead that you didn’t like. They’re not in the business of helping you understand the material, they teach you how to memorize the questions and answers and pass the tests. The formulas don’t matter, and you should not have even attempted to work them out. Total waste of time. I scored mid 90’s on all 3 written tests and was finished early Fri. morning. Took the weekend off then sailed through the practicals and left the following Thursday morning with my A&P. Go to Baker’s, it’s worth it. Do exactly what they tell you, and you will pass. That simple.
@DannyCreech
@DannyCreech 22 дня назад
As stated in my video, I did do exactly what they told me. Which was to NOT study anything before coming. That was dumb. I should have studied. As I stated in my video, everyone learns in different ways. If you don't care to know stuff and are just into memorizing things then forgetting them the moment you walk out the door, your not the kind of A&P I would want working on my aircraft. Some of us care about know the material. I also say "Go to Bakers". But the first week is a waste of money as they do not offer any material to help you. They say memorize the question and answer then take the test. I can do that on my own and saved over a thousand dollars. The second week was good and informative as was the use of the lab. There were several in my class that did exactly what they side to do and they FAILED! Some failed the written, some failed the oral, and some failed the practical test. Josh, I'm glad it all worked out for you just like it worked out great for me. Sadly many people it doesn't work out for them. My hope is that this video was informative for those looking to go to the school. Again, just my perspective and I do recommend the school.
