Cool ideas. One correction though. While you spooned the flour into the measuring cup correctly, you scraped it with the wrong side of the knife. Please use the straight, flat edge, NOT the serrated and slightly curved edge.
My measuring cups came with a scraper for the top, I always used a knife flat side of course her cake spatula would work great too it’s flat on both sides
NEVER use the sharp sided blade of the knife to smooth a surface!!! You'll just make it blunt! Use the blunted side - it works equally well and doesn't damage the knife.
Good tips. Thank you!!!!! The reason why you scoop the flour into the measuring cup is so you don’t have too much packed in. It will make your recipe more dense by scooping the measuring cup into the flour. It’s more compact. You don’t want that especially for cakes.
I slice my lemons and lay on paper towel then lay on parchment cookie sheet and freeze. Then put frozen slices in ziplock bag. Use for drinks or hot tea. Can’t afford to waste anything
There are some good hacks in this video. I knew about some of them, but others I didn't. I liked the one about measuring out a cake round of parchment paper. I usually put the pan on top of the wax or parchment paper, draw around the outline of the pan, and then cut out.
I heard someone say that they heard someone say (lol) that parchment paper is parched and therefore needs water. I’m not so sure that was the thought process behind using it but it’s funny to think about and although you get wrinkles it does the same job with less mess.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for showing people how to properly measure flour. When I watch a baker or cook measure flour incorrectly, I stop watching because they don’t know the basics. Great tips, I leaned some things!
@@valeriaswanne Oh sry, I was thinking you meant that hack at the beginning, where she pours the honey at a hole she makes with a spoon. I didn't get that one.
Your thumbs up is giving me life, and I'm the worst baker ever. I feel empowered bout ta mess up something in this kitchen right now. HOORAAAY for delusional confidence 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
My parents are chefs and I grew up in kitchens. I learned a lot of things from them. My dad specifically is a pastry chef. And I can tell you that some of these are decent tips, if not just plain common sense, but most of them are time consuming wastes. And for the love of all things holy, NEVER use the curved blade side of a knife to level anything. You use the flat side. Common sense.
If you start your cut in the middle of the cake, you're able to keep the cake moist for a longer period of time. Once you push the cake back together, the inside is not exposed to air, thus keeping it from going stale too quickly.
Me neither. It was total nonsense cutting out a piece of the middle and putting it back together. Who is realistically cutting and eating cake pieces like this 😂?
@dee54223 take a small piece of plastic wrap, cover the exposed area of the cake and achieve the same result. Less work, less mess, and a proper cake slice.
I freeze my zest in small ice cube trays and bag them when frozen like I do with the lemon juice, also do this with limes especially when they are on sale or in season
Regards the hack of using pan spray on the spoon when measuring something sticky like honey or corn syrup, you can also do it with a measuring cup. Just spritz the inside of the cup with the spray and all will come out easily.
Common sense isn't so common,Like don't drink and drive, don't have sex until you are mature enough to raise the little one or at least adopt the child out, Blessings always ❤️
Cake never sits long enough to worry about drying at my house; the jar and butter thing has never worked for me; my pan with the lid works for toting cupcakes and doesn't cost me tape; an envelope opener would be better than dulling our kitchen knives on paper; bread will do the same thing as the mallows and cost less; foil will form on the inside of the pan (which is smaller than the outside) just as easily; if that's all your straining from the pot, use a smaller bowl and a bigger strainer.
Most of these I was taught either by my mom or in high school home ed class. Though I’m not sure why they still called it that, as cooking was the only thing taught in it by that time (late 80s). At least was it in my school.
It makes good sense if one is measuring flour by volume ( cup) rather than by weight . Classic European cooks measure flour by weight ( grams). In the US, we use the measuring cup, but for accuracy in a recipe the flour should be fluffy, not packed, which the spooning helps with. In the US past, flour was usually sifted before it was measured into a cup, but most people don't have sifters anymore.
Yes, marshmallows. It works, but soon will get some rubber discs for brown sugar or some other jack, since marshmallows only stays fresh for a short time and would hate to forget to take them out before getting bad.
The third-ish one in with making a dent in the flour and then adding the honey isn't great, it won't be an issue for things like honey but doing it this way you actually add more than required because the outside of the spoon is larger than the inside
Some of these hacks are brilliant but there are a few that I don't understand. Wish there was a bit of an explanation for why it's better to do these hacks like using a spoon to put flour into the measuring cup instead of just scooping it out with the measuring cup
Me after eating human zest: “hmmm, that was kinda strange but very tasty and chewy” Ironically, I have 20/20 vision, but honestly thought the writing on the parchment said “human zest”. Like, wtf is wrong with me man? 💀
Thx so very much. I knew most but was glad you showed the proper way to measure flour!! So many ppl fail baking due to this error. I appreciated the cutting techniques for the pans & cupcakes... the handling of parchment .
Ooh nice video new subscriber here…. I don’t like pushing the brown sugar over the container I’m an ocd person I would have to do it over something else so the brown sugar that touches your hand doesn’t go back in.. I’m so damn weird it’s annoying Then I got distracted by her pants that looked like they had back pockets on the front dang I just cannot concentrate
