I'm a nurse too and just arrived here 5 months ago and I felt like I'm trapped. The process of coming here wasn't easy and wasn't cheap. And now that I'm homesick and wants to go home, I can't just simply do that cause the journey coming here wasn't easy and you can't just give it up right away. I came here hopeful of a better future but right there and then I realized it's far from that expectation. You're earning dollars but you're also spending dollars. My rate is 37.33 an hour, plus 2.33 covid bonus making it 39 dollars an hour, but my bills takes half of my monthly salary, yes, HALF. The good thing is I'm single, so I only feed myself, but I'm a breadwinner back in the Philippines so the money I earn is not just solely for myself. It's even more challenging when you come here as a family with very young kids. Your monthly income from work, will not be sufficient to make ends meet. You will have to work extra hours to make extra $$$. So if you're thinking of coming to the states, ask yourself first: 1. What's your purpose of coming here? If it's for the money, forget about it, especially if you're a family. For a single non-breadwinner person, you may survive the life here but for a family, it will be extra challenging. If you're a person whose business minded and has a good career in the Philippines (government worker, teacher, policeman etc)or is working somewhere in the middle east or other country with good salary, think twice about coming here and don't give up your career right away for a taste of American life. Evaluate your goals- if it's the money, then America cannot promise you that. If you're a USRN in the Philippines, you can still find a good paying job in BPO as chart reviewer. Consider that option. 2. Am I ready for the REAL AMERICAN LIFE? You have to be ready for a lonely indoor life here. Most people here stay home and in a neighborhood you can hardly see people outside. So if you're an outdoorsy person that enjoys good conversation with your neighbors you will find america lonely and you might end up homesick. You will encounter rude people everywhere, in the DMV (where you will get your driver's license), restaurant, stores and most especially at work, worst case scenario is you will encounter racist people. I've experienced that myself. And there's a lot of crazy people here (i think mainly because of drugs). So brace yourself and be ready. 3. Do you have enough money to bring here to start a life? Coming here is not free so you need to prepare yourself not just emotionally, physically and mentally but also financially. You can't just come here with zero on your pocket. You will need to bring some money that u can use to apply for for drivers license, apply for a car, apply for your apartment. If you're a family, then you will need to bring more. There's still many things to consider but I cannot write all of them here lol . The bottomline is don't expect too much and consider a lot of things before you jump into a final decision. Good luck to all.

Salaries have not kept up with inflation in the past 30 years. One income household from 1960 to 1970s was enough to buy a house and support a family. In the 1980s when my family moved to North America both my parents had to work. Today, two income household is not enough due to inflation. You need at least a third or fourth income stream to retire comfortably. That extra income stream (not including 401K, etc) could be from stocks, rental property or side business. Whatever money you save put it aside for investments instead of buying junk that depreciate.

I watched some of your videos, may mga mabait din pala at mapag kumbabang nurse dito sa MN. I met a few pero ang taas ang tingin nila sa sarili. Dahil nakapag asawa lang ako ng kano kaya nakapunta ako dito. God Bless to you and your family.

Hi Rey, I do have some questions .May I ask straightforward, Do you think is it all worth it to migrate there and work as nurse ? Do you think that middle class income family between US and Philippines have a better quality of life overall ? I have plan to work there as well. I'm NCLEX passer. BTW I like your video. You're genuine.

Thanks Isabelle. I will post A video about youre question I think this is a very interesting question. But the simple answer to your question is a definite yes. It is so worth it to work as a nurse here than in the philippines because of the huge salary difference.

Hi Filipino immigrant here in usa, we consider ourselves middle class in American standards. Life is better in the US than in the Philippines, malungkot pero hindi mahirap bumili ng gusto mo.
