In all the years that we've lived in the States, we always dreamed of going back to the Philippines to retire. Planning for our retirement in the Philippines took years, and God willing, it's finally happening soon.
With regards to health insurance in the Philippines, we found out that our health insurance benefits that we are still paying since we worked for the federal government in the USA were actually accepted in the Philippines, which is Bluecross Blueshield from FEHBP. The Medical City Hospital in Ortigas did accept our health insurance plan. You just have to pay for your deductible for your doctors visit and medication. They have an overseas kiosk that you can contact to learn if your health plan are covered. Last year, Saint Lukes Hospital in BGC accepted our bluecross blueshield insurance but not this year due to insurance affiliations change. They also have an overseas kiosk that you can contact and learn if your plan is accepted in there hospital. I hoped this help.
Nang lahat relatives here, same those peoples who knows us& close friends are all surprise ng they learned na magre- retire kami sa Pinas! Actually, say ko nga the lady talking or make.ds video ay parang si ako! Lahat ng sinabi nya sa.video yun ang reasons namin why we want to go back home, fav.ko rin si Dr.Ong! Ang wala lang kami bahay na sarili sa Pinas at mga pera sa stock market like she's talking, kasi very tight budget namin, kasi di naman kami professional like silang mag-asawa! We live pay check to pay check, kaya parang ipon namin yung 401K namin, happy na kami non, kasi yon lang kaya namin i-save! Para sa akin, instead of ignoring yun na 1day it's our time to go, kung we are preparing our retirement sa work,we have to prepare our retirement here on earth! Na pag tinawag na taU ni Lord,we can say na thank You very much Lord sa retirement time, we enjoy it with our family & loved ones while we are waiting U to send us back home, to our Eternal Father's house!❤🙏🔥
hahaha. marami oy.
You give very sound advice. We were a little bit like you guys as saving for the rainy days, having 401k, getting pensions from ssa and from the government but not as much as you earn as nurses. Our house here is paid off too and we acquired 2 lots in the phils. But until now, after retiring for 11 years, we havent decided if we will retire here or in the phils. I always think of the medical expenses even if we have substantial savings. I love how you plan your retirement. You seem so grounded. Good luck to you!
If it just visiting doctors, it doesn't require surgery or something na out of pocket. Then you have no choice sa US ka. Kaya it is very important merong economic freedom sa bansa.
Can we just acknowledge how amazing the editing is. I love it. Madaling maintindihan. Lemme share this to my husband since we are planning to work in the US.
I appreciate your insight on this subject. Your plan is well-thought of and very inspiring. Your life in the US is very relatable. Maraming Salamat. You just gained another subscriber. Blessings.
Thank you for this video. I'm just like you starting on mid of my thirties learning for your experience give me a vast knowledge about to what expect. Thank you so much may God bless you and your family!! Keep posting!
🙂 Enjoy your journey in the States. There’s so much this country has to offer. Keep your good Filipino values as you assimilate in the life in the States. And pray always. Thanks for watching ❤️💜
Very inspiring po ito! ❤ I’ve learned a lot. Also, yung editing nyo po and storytelling is really good. Thank you for sharing your retirement preparations.
Ate Gi, I like your content! Relaxing po pakinggan boses niyo and your story feels so personal and close to one’s heart. please keep uploading nakaka inspire po. I’m in the same track as an OFW
I love listening to your voice po and you have a good perspective when it comes to retirement, such an inspiration to us who are in our 30’s and OFW’s. 😊
Watching here from Canada. Very helpful content. We are also planning for early retirement in the Philippines. Since pandemic we started to talk about retirement, nagpa dual citizenship na kami, bought another farm and renovated our house in the Philippines. Now we are planning to develop our farm and saving money as much as we could if anytime we decided to retire. And like you needs more research on Healthcare insurance. Please do a vlog once you found options for healthcare. Thank you
Watching here from Arizona Chie😀 this is my second video na pinapanood hehehe baka hindi na ako matulog nito para lang panuorin more of your videos 🥰❤️🥰
Thanks for sharing your retirement story well planned indeed very very educational I will definitely share this to my friends in Canada im a dual citizen and just retired and back and forth from Laguna Philippines to Toronto Canada
Ang ganda ng video content nyo. Ang galing po ng mindset nyo. Masuwerte ang mga anak nyo po to have parents like you and your husband. Happy Retirement po!
Hello po ate Gi! Love your videos! I’m so hooked! You have a great talent in story telling and your content is so informative! I’m also a nurse here in a Vegas far from retirement yet but I’m learning a lot from your videos! 😊
Hello! I'm from Alberta, Canada almost 15 years na rin dito. Just like you me and my wife plans to retire in the Philippines in the future. I like your vlog because there is no filter or sugar coating. What you share is true and based on the reality living in North America. Thank you I was able to discover your RU-vid channel
Glad I stumbled upon your vlog. We r thinking of retiring in the PH too, but not in the next 10 years pa siguro. We are the same age. Just dreading the traffic, the heat, will miss the conveniences we are used to in the US, our adult kids and healthcare which is so important . Will cross the bridge later on. Best wishes on your journey back .
Good luck ma’am on your retirement. That is our plan too. We are planning to retire at 62 while we can travel. I think we have more than enough if we live in the Philippines and few months here in the US. Life will be simpler in the Philippines.
Hi Ate Gi. I have just subscribed now. Your videos are so insightful. I moved to the UK in my mid 20s and have been here for 25 years. Still a bit far from retirement, i have the same thought process of retiring in the Philippines. I am a nurse too. Though given a chance to work in the US, I decided to stay here in the UK. Nevertheless, when retirement comes I will also be depending on the fixed income from the lifetime savings, state pension and the work pension that I have. I want to retire in the Philippines because of the same reasons you have. I am so happy to see your video and ecstatic to hear sensible stories of retirement planning from nurses abroad. I am happily single and not into mingling. More power to you both. And cant wait for the next video. Love to know what health insurance is better for balikbayans.
Thanks for keeping it all real while always giving us high-quality videos. Your voice, Ate Gi, is very soothing and got my attention to subscribe. I look forward to your take on your hunt for health and possibly other insurance in the Philippines. Has renouncing your American citizenship after retirement ever crossed your mind-for tax purposes?
Hi! I’m glad you appreciate the videos. We’re dual citizens. No plan of renouncing for tax purposes. Still researching about health care coverage sa atin. I’ll share it here once it’s done. Thanks for watching
What a beautiful video about planning for retirement, from the point of view of a Pinoy professional in the US. I myself am retiring in nine years. I've been earnestly planning and saving. I intend to live like a pauper in the ancestral land, from when I retire until I drop dead. I hope that will enable my child to get an elite college education without incurring a huge amount of debt. Thank you.
Dang started late getting my education, working and saving because of 5 kids, I’m longing for a life in the Philippines, because I didn’t grow up with Filipinos, I want that Philippine life, I’m looking forward to looking for my parents and siblings, but so much information needed in going about searching for them, to those with parents and siblings please cherish them, I can’t wait to find mine and cherish as well🙏🏽💚
The moment I hear your voice, I immediately subscribe. It's just so calming. My partner and I are about to migrate to Canada as a PR. We are based in Abu Dhabi and have a normal, decent life. We were able to save so much and invest; my dilemma is about retirement, as Canada's cost of living is high, and we are in our late 30s. Our current passive income from investments allows us to comfortably retire indefinitely in the Philippines if we want to. But I'm not sure if this is enough or if it is still worth it to start a new life in Canada. So far, global mobility is our number-one reason for moving to Canada. Although we have rarely had any visa applications denied to countries we have visited. Other reasons we have are for permanency, health care, and lifestyle. I have these concerns about retirement costs, and I want to share our story as your videos resonate with me. Thank you.
Im far away from retirement but same as you guys, already building up my nest eggs like 401k Hsa roth real estate rentals, but we’ve been traveling to the Philippines every 3 yrs as I wanna do it while we’re younger, long term plan to retire is in the Philippines 🇵🇭 God bless.
My ultimate goal is to plant Veggies and raise chickens to lessen expenses when I retire in Philippines. I work and live now in Germany and planning to fly home (PH) in 20 years. I have also passive investments that avail dollar cost Averaging, SSS, Company and Government pension insurances and I am now starting my Pag-ibig nang pa unti- unti. And like everyone says, Health System in the Ph is a big Hindrance. Thats why I am in search for the best health insurance in the pH which does not only cover Critical illness but also regular check ups and preventive screenings. Thank you for your Vlog as I am inspire more to SaVe! 😊
Getting sick is too costly, hirap maubos yung savings sa médical emergencies.
Heat will always be there since we are in a tropical country and it will even get hotter and the traffic is not going to be solved anytime soon. Key is have a nive farm land in the province but if thats not your taste then youre better off staying where you are now 😂
@@jtozuna Always dreamed of living in a farm, but its not the answer to beat the heat. Visited the 20 hectare farm of a batchmate before the pandemic at Mabitac, Laguna. Even then the heat was horrible going around the farm which is why I dropped the idea of a life there.
@@will12219 Then i dont think you should retire there. 😅 I am from mindanao ang there are a lot of places where i can go and purchase land with a 70-75° weather most of the day but then you're far from the city. I love the heat so i dont have a problem with it. Im going to miss the 4seasons tho but i'm not going to miss the -10°F 😃
Great topic. We are retiring at the end of this year and considering doing it in the Philippines. But like many, my concern is health care cost. I am apprehensive because a couple i know did an early retirement over there and it started just fine until the wife and emergency medical condition that resulted not only in surgery but a long stay in ICU. That cost them millions (pesos) in medical bills. Now i understand that there are health insurance options over there. Those who have purchased one over there could you share premiums and benefits.
Healthcare is the top concern of everyone planning to retire in the Philippines. I will share what I find out about Philippine shealth care coverage in a future video. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for sharing all your videos and giving advices along the way. I am very curious on your transition journey po from P.I.- U.S.-P.I. Thank you po!
You’ll be fine, when you come home and retire in the Philippines, you have prepared financially, emotionally, mentally and physically for this and your kids were set up for this also, my wife and I are on the same boat as you are, along with watching Doc Willie Ong! Best of luck sa inyong transition sa retirement sa Pilipinas! 🙏❤️🇵🇭❤️🙏
I'm so glad I found your channel po today. Very inspiring videos! 😊 Keep uploading videos po. Also came to the US mid 30's, also a nurse and I just turned 40. Pa upload din po videos regarding career development at saan kayo specifically nag invest like Employeer Match/Roth IRA. Did you diversify your investments po? did you buy individual stocks or invested in Mutual/Index funds? Thank you po!
Good find on my autofeed. I can relate to your story.Disagree a bit with the bigger houses here in the US and thinking we are buying more than we need. I bought my house for $300k over 10 years ago with 5 bedrooms and today is close to going over $1M. Me and my wife will turn 59 in a few years. The house sale + 401k + savings will allow us a comfortable retirement in the Philippines.. and will also allow us to wait out social security until it reaches the full retirement amount. Thanks for sharing and best of luck sa inyo.
Wow! such great home value appreciation! That's amazing! We were not fortunate to be in the housing market at the right time. But it's ok. We're blessed in so many other ways. Thank you for watching ha!
@@official_ate_gi_channelsa Texas kami bumagsak 20 years ago and the last 5 years our area surged with California and New York people which caused our property values to skyrocket. Sinewerte lang talga and just wanted to share in case you are wondering why the property valuation seems high.
as a rule of thumb... by investing in a bigger and much nicer house... most likely will return a better/more equity... hopefully, that is true to your situation🙂
Same po tayo early 30s po kaming mag asawa noong napunta kami dito sa US, we are now turning 40 and mas lalo namin narerealize na palapit na ng palapit ang retirement, dahil dun I feel na parang we are a bit behind dahil nga 30s na kami nakarating dito kaya late na nag start makapag ipon for retirement. Right now we are maxing out our 401k contributions, HSA and my kunti ding monthly contribution for kids College 529 plan. At the same time nag seset aside din kami kahit papaano for enjoyment like going to few vacation and eating out. We always buy used cars in cash and live in a descent size house (not too small or big). Someday we also plan na bumalik sa pinas for retirement but we are also saving more in case hindi yun ang mangyari and instead dito sa US magretire. More power po sa vlog ninyo!
Salamat po. We also started saving in our 40’s na. Kasi when we became nurses here, 40 na kami. You’re doing all the right thing. We did the same thing. As your income increases and your investment compounds, you’ll be surprised how big your investment savings will grow. Thank you po for watching!!
I think I’m the only one who never wanted to go back to Phils, Canada is home to me. I used to have a house and sold it and bought a small condo as I like to travel every year. I also don’t have anyone to get back to in PI anyway, would be nice to visit tho.
My concern is the immediate availability of medical experts along with new technology in the Philippines. Living in the US with all the convenience of medical care, makes the thought of moving to the Philippines daunting, to say the least. 🫤
My mom and dad have millions when they retired in the Philippines. But when my mom had a stroke and suffered for a year before she passed all the money was gone. I had to get my dad back here in US, sold our house . But the sad thing is I could not get him the rest of his Medicare benefits like part B and D because I'm the penalty is so high. They had to calculate the penalty from the year that he retired up to the present. So all he had now is Medicare A.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. thanks for sharing your story. life is so unpredictable and when life events happen, Medicare doesn't make it easy by adding penalties to the change in service choices.
Curious to know what are your sources of cashflow in the Phils? Even with zero debt in Canada, property tax is high, life and car Insurance expensive and utilities.
Please give us some tips about healthcare in the PH once you retire back. I have been following Doc Willie and Grandpa Vlogger . They discuss some about this matter. It’s unfortunate that we can’t use Medicare in the PH. It will be a big savings for the US gov . They they allow this .
I know. It's a shame that Medicare can't be used in the Phils. The Fil-Am nurses lobbied for this but nothing happened. You're right that it would be more cost effective to the US if Medicare is accepted in the Philippines. Thanks for watching!
Glad I encountered your vlog. I quick question, since you mentioned that you also have SSS from the Phil government which eventually you're going to have a pension. How did you apply? Can you still receive Phil SSS pension if you US citizen? Thanks, love your vlog tho :)
hi! we're dual citizens. I haven't checked if former Filipino citizens can still avail of SSS benefits. also, I haven't started applying for my SSS pension.
Hi po very informative video. Ask ko lang you mentioned meron po kayo house in the US and you dont plan to keep it once you retire sa ph. Does that mean you will sell it po before going back to ph? Thanks
