Very cool and informative video! Bruce looks healthy and happy. I bought five about a year ago; I was concerned one would be lonely. They haven't grown quite that quickly, but they school most of the time and are friendly towards other fish and people. Great fish in the right environment, as you indicated. :)
Bruce is epic! Good to see also that I’m not the only one who constantly re-scapes their tanks! 🤣 One day I would love to get a Bala - I’ll be upgrading to a 150g end of this year and while I don’t rush into new fish it’s nice to know that tank might open up the Bala Shark possibility one day.
Bruce is a beautiful specimen. I've loved Bala's for years but, never been able to have a tank large enough for them (i would want 200+). I did rehome some for a friend. 3 Balas, and 2 really nice looking Tin Foil Barbs (they were housed in a column tank!!). I kept them for about two weeks to let them destress before I took them to my friends who had a 180. Loved hearing them smack at the top for food! Bruce would be a lot happier with a few of his own.
I purchased a Bala to go with some Koi in the future. Of course right now this little guy is about 1.5 inches. I knew I would need to put him in a grow out tank but didn't know which one to put him in. After watching this video with your cichlids, I placed my Bala in a 60 gallon breeder tank that two peacock cichlids are in with two Siamese algae eaters. To my surprise, the Bala and peacocks are doing well!!! Thank you for helping me decide!!! They are all very happy and healthy!!! The Bala will definitely grow well there!!! Thank you for the videos you do, they are very helpful for me and many other enthusists!!!
Loved the update growth rate of the Bala Shark. I have 2 of them at different sizes. One is real small as I just got it and the other is a bit bigger. It is fascinating watching them grow. In 3 weeks time I will be upsizing my shark tank. I have a bigger tank on lay-by but now I want to go bigger than the one on lay-by for an extra $96.
I spotted your electric blue, he’s lovely. I’ve had Balas for about 6 years now, hoping they will grow bigger but at 8 inches I think they have reached their limit on size. I love my Balas very personable
Love these fish, I have 5. Two of them are about 6 years old and very large the other 3 are much younger but growing fast- love their food!. I have had to keep upgrading my tanks and have just brought at 1200L can't wait to get them in there!
Hiello, Bruce is looking great, how about yr chocolate cichlid, what do you have to say about him, growth and beverage, thanks a lot, really enjoy watching yr videos.
Thanks for watching! The chocolate is a great cichlid. As long as your tank is a good size (over ~100 gallons), they are great tank mates with many south american cichlids. Balas would work with them for sure
Thank you. Would you please do a whole piece on just different types of bala. I love them but would like to understand the nuances between them before putting a small school in my 180gal. Lost but learning and TYVM again.
I'm picking mine up tonight and will go good in my new 300gal tank. But I'm not sure if I should get 2 or just the one because I already have 9 fish but there's still plenty of room for 3 big Bala Sharks just not sure though.
I just bought 2 of them yesterday and named them Bolt and Dart.since they look like they can swim 88mph and go back in time.but the downfall is that I'm poor and can't afford a large tank, all IV got them in now is a 10 gallon tank, but there only about 2 inch.Should I take them back to the pet store???
I also have a bala shark called Bruce 🤣. He's just a little guy and He's also the only bala in the tank since his buddy died a day after I got them. He definitely shows no sign of stress being the only bala in the tank. He's currently in a 75 gallon but I just got a 125 which was my plan and why I got him. Thanks for the video it was super informative and your tank is amazing!
@@Vikingsroar that's what a lot of people think when they get them from the shops it's only when they've outgrown their tank that people realize what they got themselves into. Wish they would do a better job of educating people before they buy them 😅
@@devinelight8238 wish local fish stores 🐠🐟 could maybe paste a photo of a fully grown adult and indicate it's maximum size on each respective tank so customers will know what they are getting into 😆😅when I saw the bala sharks tank I said 'oh so cute so cute' and bought 2 of them ..but when I saw this video and how large it can get I fainted 😂
Hey I love all your videos.... I would like to get one bala shark for my 150 gallon period is it okay to keep one by themselves? I have two severums 4 GEOS 1 electric blue acara in the tank now.
I actually have a bala shark thats 10"-11"... the biggest one I've ever seen before... I hope he continues to grow and do well and reaches his potential growth size... I didn't grow him out myself... I bought him that big already... very kool fish
I want to get one but I keep seeing that everyone says they are school fish, so you need a number of them. Glad to see Bruce is doing well by himself with your other fish.
I have 2 Bala Sharks kept with other fish. I am upsizing the tank in 3 weeks time as my bigger tank is on lay-by. I don't intend on having a school of Bala Sharks due to the other fish but two to keep each other company is fine I reckon 8:32
hey troy, my oscar of around 3 years has bloat for about 10 days and i don't know what to do; she's currently quarantined in 60 gallon tank where her behaviour is normal (swimming around begging for food but the belly stays bloated) i've tried peas, starving, epsom salts and flagyl meds all to no avail :( was wondering if you have any advice, thank you
I absolutely love Bala sharks 🦈! I got two Juveniles and placed them together with 4 juvenile Oscars..big mistake! One of the bala sharks got half eaten by an Oscar 😢 I've since removed all the Oscars from the 75 gallon tank and all my cichlids, geophagus, silver dollars etc are happier 😊😁
Off topic a bit but what brand and color sand are you using ? I am setting up a 75 gallon right now looking for sand and a nice piece of driftwood. Thanks
He is so cute people think I'm a bit weird for naming and getting attached to my fish but whatever. I want a balla shark so bad but the biggest tank we have is 20 gallons
So question for you, im about to get a 125 with one or 2 oscars a Bala and probably 3 tinfoil barbs. In your opinion, is that too many big fish for a 125?
It might be a tight fit in a 125 once they’re full grown. Mainly considering the tin foil barbs get so big and active. The 6 feet would definitely help but just may feel crammed after a few years
One tip if you want your shark to grow better you should get a separate tank because Bala sharks grow better with their own kind i recomend 3-8 Bala sharks would work
I have a 4ft by 3ft by 2 ft tall tank. Would this be ok for a full grown bala shark. If i let it grow out in a 75 gallon then move it to the bigger tank as it grows??
