The lucky 7/8 time sig seems very appropriate for a game about poker. Props to the artist for making such a natural sounding song in an uncommon meter.
@@vario6492 I take the opposite view. Meters like 5, 7, or 11 are uncommon enough that it's far easier to write melodic lines which seem excessively rigid and forced, and which then draw greater attention to a beat which thus comes across as limping along, like something in 4 or 6 which has had a limb amputated. The Balatro theme allows the listener to get into a groove with the song without even thinking about the unusual rhythm because it has such a natural sound, and the composition provides multiple sounds interleaving between each other which they can shift their attention between: the relatively steady drumbeat, the syncopated chords, and the fairly free-floating synthesizer melody. While doing something more deliberately "off-sounding" in 7 can accomplish another interesting aesthetic effect, as in some math rock or jazz, I think the hypnotic but undistracting way this is written perfectly suits its role as the main soundtrack for a video game.
@@chonky_walrus I can recommend some stuff with similiar vibe: David Wojciechowski & Victor Fritzsche - Gato slowerpace 音楽 - The Great Escape Soothing Tunic Music (or just entire TUNIC ost) Smooth - Vintage 01 [Full EP] Smooth Genestar - Last Train Downtown [Full Album] 寺田創一 (Soichi Terada) Futarino Fantavision Full Soundtrack (HQ)
It feels both more tightly designed and broader in scope than StS to me. Quite the accomplishment, it's also one of the prettiest games I've seen in a while.
Never played this game but the music and aesthetic of this game remind me of some fake video game in some tv sitcom where the main character develops an unhealthy obsession with said video game and the entire episode is his family trying to get him to stop playing cause the game is ruining his life
Would you consider it 7/4 or 7/8? It feels more natural for me to count it as two measures of 7 rather than one based on the high-hats/chords, but I'm not very good at distinguishing simple from compound meter. Good song
@hopkins7976 the denominator depends on the tempo. I think based on the kick and snare the tempo is around 54. If you count double time it's 108. Counted as the slower tempo, the time signature is 7/8. 3 and a half quarter notes fit in the measure, or 7 eighth notes (thus time sig of 7/8). You're counting the hats which are sixteenth notes by my measure, but those don't necessarily determine the time signature, they just help you keep time. Which is a useful skill in itself!
@@SuperWarZoid A rough one to be sure, but a needle that high gotta be like, ante 7 or something (at least on default difficulty, i've not played that much) and my best single hands around then are like, in the 1-10mil range. So it's definitely doable
That's really interesting cause I saw someone uploaded a rip of this and they were all mad fast, slowing it down to 75 % speed sounds exactly like this vid.
it's like a Twilight Zone episode, trapped in liminal kitchen floor tiles fever dream with a trippy skybox and you're in Purgatory, playing cards with shrill goofy clown dudes🃏🤡
I am going completely insane. Every time I look up a theme on youtube, the extended version pops up. Has no one heard of the "loop" button? jesus christ, this is getting out of hand.
I heard this very faintly in the background of a pretty big youtuber's video and recognized it because Ceres Fauna plays this game a lot. I came here to confirm it really was this I heard
@@MichaelDarrow-tr1mn How do you distinguish? I instinctively want to count it as paired measures of 7, which seems like 7/8 to me, but I'm not very good at telling simple and compound meters apart
Can you upload a non-extended version of this? It's absurd that not a single person has just uploaded the song as it is, without any modifications or weirdness. I just want to add the song to my music playlist.
@@e-safetyplus542 it's secretly a zip file. You can access the folder as an archive with 7zip. Game is also written in Love2D (which is a Lua-based Game Engine), in case you wanted to code hunt
🤣omg that's so funny you're a great comedian what an original joke haha 🤣 These Ohio jokes will never be funny. It's random for the sake of being random.
@@eywrong a synthesizer is an actual instrument. I guess I mean that I think the music was made outside of a software package. With instruments. Mainly because the loop isn't clean. During the repeat there is a noticeable break, which would be wholly unnecessary if it were made entirely within software.
