Amazing how the eagle senses the hawk closing and immediately rolls so that its talons are facing the other bird, ready to engage. Looks like the hawks may have had a nest nearby and were simply trying to chase the eagle off.
Incredible agility in mid-air for that eagle. I wonder how it knows where the hawks are coming from. It seems to anticipate their closing within striking distance before it flips around to put out its talons for defense.
It's not surprising that hawks are faster than eagles. This can be compared to why fighter planes are faster than bomber planes. Hawks are lighter in weight, so it's easier for them to overcome air resistance. But at the same time, the eagle is stronger and more resilient.
Also the speed at which the Eagle is moving while doing so is enough to pierce the underbelly of any bird it is chasing with its' talons while in aerial combat. A most incredible bird indeed.
All eagles have that maneuvre and they mostly use it amongst themselves. When eagles fight, they do it in the air, and they even lock talons together and spin like mad, loosening from each other just before dropping into the tree tops, which they sometimes do, at very nasty costs. Hawks and falcons always attack eagles and other big raptors like the Osprey and Spotted Eagle-Owl, not to kill them, but to harass them out of their territory.
Cool video. I saw this behavior in....of all places, San Diego. There are huge murders of regular NA Crows and even a few majestic semi solitary and huge Ravens (mostly seen them in pairs and croaking on top of some houses). The Crows always bother the bigger Ravens just like this (very acrobatic). There are also everything from peregrine falcons(and other smaller kind of hawks), to sea eagles and owls (even a few random colonies of escaped parrots)........not to mention the giant flocks of sea gulls. Its extremely interesting to watch birds here!!
Looks like it was a classic case of mobbing amongst birds. I've seen behavior like this all the time around my area (Nebraska). Once I saw a small group of sparrows versus a crow. Another time, there was probably at least 60-70 crows doing this to a red-tailed hawk. They just jumped around in trees and crowded and screamed the hawk out, and a few of them chased the hawk to another tree. Then, they did the same until the hawk finally got the hint and left their area.
The other day I saw a very similar situation in my backyard. Hawks do not play and they are so territorial...or at least they appeared to be. We have them everywhere.
@@Enigma9178 the eagles weight is too much for that hawk to handle , especially if the fight ended up on the ground. The hawk would get rofl stomped in a heart beat
@@Enigma9178 True. Hawk's main strength is stealth strike in a high speed while coming down right on the target. Eagle would have seriously injured for sure irrespective of the size of Eagle. On the ground or from front, hawk is no match for eagle though.
@@budslovesyou2772 I did ask the Harpy eagle as per your advice. The Harpy says Philippines eagle is like a toddler learning to walk. Wondering whether he is right!!
@@henthust9784 nah you didn't, you just talk to your stupid self and brag again. When you response to my suggestion and say you talked to the harpy eagle, you admitted that you are stupid and dumb. All the Eagles knows that too.
@@budslovesyou2772 When I read your response, I thought you were talking in a friendly, joking manner, that is why I joined the joke. Or so I thought. I didn't guess you are so deep buried into this eagle issue that you would defend your stance with such ugly words, especially as to me they are merely birds. Forgive me for thinking I had someone to chat with and share a joke or two. Obviously I was wrong. Let's forget we met. Keep well. And good life to the Philippines eagle. It's not it's fault.
I feel sorry for that bald eagle because it was two against one, but even with the odds stacked against the eagle, the eagle still defended itself quite well against the two hawks
Eagle: "Command come in! This is Eagle one zero niner, I was blindsided by enemy flyers! Currently engaging two bogeys, there on my tail! Executing evasive manu...Dammit! I'm hit! Requesting assistance! GROUND HOG! HELP MEEEEE!
Both are about of parallel strength but have two different hunting styles. Bald eagles are fish eaters who feed on waterfowl and carrion. They hunt but if the opportunity presents itself, would rather scavenge. Golden eagles are more mammalian hunters, eating anything from rabbits to medium sized deer. They also are the most widespread eagle and definitely the most versatile.
I saw two Mocking Birds do this to a Hawk. The Mocking Birds were about the size of tennis balls, the hawk was like a winged football. The Mocking Birds were so agile and attacked from all angles not just swooping in and drove the Hawk off with ease.
LeoInterHyenaem male and female hawks are chasing eagle from thier hunting territory, which does include thier nest. In truth bald eagles seem to be more laid back somewhat docile, a woman on RU-vid has them hanging out on her porch, look up Mr. Mrs eagle. They are considered a nuisance bird where she lives, they steal groceries from the backs of pickup trucks and snatch food from shopping carts while people are pushing them, sad but funny.
Raptors are extremely territorial and it appears this eagle unwittingly entered into the hawks territory, which is approx a 2 mile radius from their nest site. The pair of hawks could have easily done some real damage to the eagle, but it's obvious it was a mere warning to move along.
Actually the eagle could've killed them too since he's bigger and better in arial combat if thaws hawk's could've hurt him in air they would've done it long ago but that's what the eagle was hoping for he was waiting for the hawks to attack him then he would've grabbed one of them by the legs and would've done a serious damage to the Hawks legs or would've just poked it to death while grabbing it but the hawks were too smart and knew that
Those Hawks are definitely going in for the attack, it's just they're too smart to be entangled by the Eagle who keeps trying to grab them by the legs. Those Eagles have really smart fighting tactics for the air like that. Some pretty intense barrel rolls.
