Bald Eagles make a series of chirping whistles and other shrill, high-pitched notes and calls. I think they sound incredibly similar to a gull!
As you may have noticed, Bald Eagles have surprisingly weak calls. Many people are surprised to learn what these powerful raptors actually sound like!
In fact, many directors have replaced Bald Eagle sounds in movies and on TV. Instead, they substitute the screams of a Red-tailed Hawk to make the eagle sound more intimidating.
Bald Eagles primarily eat fish. Because of this fact, they are typically heard and found near water. The BEST areas are forests near large bodies of water that provide good fishing AND tall trees for nesting sites.
After almost going extinct due to DDT poisoning, these raptors are a true success story. Bald Eagles are now found in every US state (except Hawaii) and Canadian province in North America.

I don’t think they sound weak at all! Their calls are beautifully clear and distinctive. I’ve heard and seen them many times in Wyoming County, NY: inflight, feasting on prey on the ground, and perched in trees and nests- juveniles and adults. I never tire of seeing them and every time I have the privilege of spotting one is a special treat! I actually just saw one today in Letchworth State Park. 🤗

I think, you can call it "weak", just when compare it with their appereance. Like, if you see it, you don't expect that they sound like that - more likely, like red-tailed hawk would sound, as mentioned in video. Also, "bald's" one's sound more like they are complain bout something or like crying, when r.t.h. more like serious warning...

"Weak" might be the wrong choice of word. But in comparison to how fierce and powerful the bald eagle is, it's call is relatively pitiful lol Maybe that's just to say that the Bald Eagle doesn't NEED a particularly scary call.
@brandonfoley7519

@@vibesof303so you think they sound weak because you movies taught you to expect a different call?

I have noticed when watching nest cams that when they have alert a lot, they get hoarse, and the calls weaken in volume. Also, the frequency of the call is at a higher range of what human males can hear. So, for some people, the calls may sound weak. For me personally, their shrillest part of the call hits the exact frequency that causes me ear pain. Yes, the red tail hawk can be a stronger call, but it sounds nothing like the eagles. It is a unique call even among the hawks.

I live in Mt. Vernon, Arkansas. An adult Bald Eagle swooped across the street so close to me that I had to brake hard so as not to hit it! That was abput 6 years ago. We now have a pair of large birds nesting in a tree by our pond. We haven't been able to identify them positively, yet. We do believe they are young bald eagles. Fitting, because my husband is a retired, disabled veteran, and very proud of it!

I've seen them all across the country. We live in Appalachian east Tennessee now and see them occasionally. My absolute favorite sighting was at clear lake campground and resort in Oregon.... outside of Sisters. I was in a row boat fishing, tossed one back, and heard a great "BOOM!" Next to the boat. It was a bald eagle grabbing the fish I threw back seconds before! This was in about 2010.

I was coming out of the auditorium at a local high school today in the corner of my eye way up in the sky I saw the biggest bird I've ever seen! His wingspan was ginormous! He was a little high up at first to tell if he was an eagle or a hawk, I have seen Hawks here before. By the time I made it to the parking lot was getting into the car he was circling above the football field where there are lots of trees and making a sound which I have never heard from the Hawks I have seen. I got on RU-vid and listen to your video and the last high-pitched noise it was making was definitely what the bird sounded like today that I saw! I see that you asked if we have seen one to let you know where we saw them at. I saw him at Cactus High School 63rd Avenue and Greenway Road, Glendale, Arizona.

I set up with my tripod in the middle of a bridge on a back country road and waited a few hours for an adult to leave a branch. We have a new family on our property out in Ridgeway, SC. We have a few manmade lakes in the area and Broad River. We do have a portion of 25 mile creek run through our property, but it’s not always flowing, so I was a little surprised because I thought they lived closer to water. We don’t have a lot of pairs in SC, so it’s awesome that they chose our property 💜🙏 First sign something was different was finding two bird wings ripped completely off at the shoulder. Baldies are regular visitors around my neck of the woods, here in Central Maine. They nest in some of the large pines around here, and hunt the many lakes and rivers. In winter, when those are frozen up, they cruise the many beaver bogs looking for small game, including bunnies, squirrels, wandering housecats, etc. They have also learned that ice fishermen are great food sources for the expended bait fish they leave on the ice, as well any 'trash" fish left. It's always a kick to watch them!

I worked in Kenai, AK for about 6 months. But it was from November until May. Love bald eagles and went to the Alaskian State Park, on Kenai, and took videos of balk eagles. My desire was high and a worker at the office suggested I go to Homer, AK where one of the largest amount of eagles live. I did. There were THOUSANDS of eagles there. A lady, living right on the coast, fed the eagles every day at a certain time. I was there for her feeding. Those birds were like pigeons. EVERYWHERE! So yes I have heard the eagle calls. Both hubby & I heard these sounds in the early evening in August. We live on Lake Superior by Knife River, MN. I heard the sound in the back of the yard while my husband heard them lakeside. He spotted two eagles flying over the lake about 50 ft above the water 'talking' to each other. Sounded firm and somewhat excited.

I’ve been used to hearing them up where we stay in central Maine but had two fly over two weeks ago on Upper Cape Cod. They have slowly been making their way back down this way for a few years now.

Saw two bald eagles today flying in a spiral climb over the Black River in South Carolina. Sounded like a mating call.

Saw my first this morning in Fuquay Varina , NC. It rebounded off my roof. I think maybe after a squirrel. Then went in a tall pine to complain it didn’t get its prey. Then flew off. Very, very large with white head and tail. My first sighting at 69 years old. Won’t forget that anytime soon!!!

I have bald eagles living about 500 ft. from my home on the shore of Brule Harbour, Brule, Nova Scotia Canada. Absolutely majestic birds when flying and gliding. And their chirping whistles and calls sound beautiful to my ears. Thanks for posting your video.

I hear them daily, as they fish in the creek I overlook on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Thank you for helping me understand what I am hearing!

I have seen and heard multiple. I saw and heard one today behind Morris Ct., Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. There runs a small creek behind the businesses and it was in a tree, squeaking. It looked me straight in the eye and when I wanted to take a picture, it flew off.
